    I agree with you on your analysis of amps not sounding very good for the first time but I loved the sound of the NC400s right off the bat. Granted, I now have around 100 hours on them and can agree there has been improvements but I would be lying if I heard anything drastic in the first few days. Thanks for the review and linking to the tutorial. I recently discovered your channel and enjoy it very much!

      +New Record Day our auditory system is a tricky device. If you switch from a well sounding tube amp to a 'fresh' class D amp, the 'shock' is bigger than when you switch from an 'average ' solid state amp, for instance. I just wanted to warn not to judge the NC400's right from the bench.

    Hi Hans, Thanks for the review. One thing about the pricing: one could interpret your words that a pair would cost 650 Euros ex VAT. However, 650 Euros only buys you one mono amplifier. So it's 1300 for a pair. I am seriously considering trying a pair for a stereo system. I have currently one in my main system to drive a subwoofer, performing really well.

    I have a pair of NC400, bought the NC400 and SMP600 modules. It is is indeed very good and it takes an extreme amplifier to better it, but those amplifiers do exist - and the price difference is not small (huge?). But Class D seems to have come of age, but will they succeed in challenging what is possible at a much higher price? Is there still more improvement to come? I hope so, but will it plateau with the NC series? Only time will show. But it would be hard to believe that there *are* better amps out there, but few will ever hear them. But what is needed is to get people beyond ordinary amps and affordable. And kudos to Hypex for doing that.

      's fine you like the NC400 that much and they are great amps for the money. But I don't share your statement it would take a lot of money to find better amp's. For the same money you can find amps that have equal quality but other strong points. But, again, great you enjoy them that much.

      The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel Hi Hans, can you name a few amps in the price range worthy of comparison to nc 400! thanks.

    Thanks for the excellent review, Hans. I was somewhat surprised to note that there was no unbalanced RCA input. Not everybody has a pre-amp with balanced outputs. I don't.

      Thats okay, they have a chart where they explain how to connect unbalanced (wich you connect to their pcb) input to their balanced input on the pcb

      You know you can get an RCA to XLR cable for like $10 right?

    • @johnmarchington3146
      @johnmarchington3146 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KB-gt2xl No I didn't and thanks for informing me, K B.. I've always assumed that cables were either fully balanced or unbalanced both ends. I'd say that if Hans likes it that amp kit would be well worth considering.

    • @KB-gt2xl
      @KB-gt2xl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnmarchington3146 They sort of are in that using an XLR to RCA cable would mean an unbalanced signal is being transmitted, but it would be delivered just the same. Balanced is usually more of a benefit over longer distance or if one is seriously concerned with interference. So you can deliver unbalanced over XLR but cannot deliver balanced over RCA.

    • @johnmarchington3146
      @johnmarchington3146 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KB-gt2xl Thanks again for your explanation. I confess I've never really understood the XLR concept. I have a really expensive= and sonically excellent - pre-amp and that only has RCA inputs and outputs.

    mentioned price (650 euro + VAT) is for ONE, not for a pair as you mentioned!

    a friend of mine said that this ncore will sound better than my 10000€ single ended integrated tube amplifier...we ll see
    this is power amp and also need a pre amplifier?

    I didn’t know these needed a break in period. You mentioned 2 weeks - was that normal listening for a few hours per day, or did you leave them going for 2 weeks 24hrs per day?
    I found this review because of Hypex new offering Nilai 500 DIY. I’d like to see the inside of the amp, and you can point out some parts and comment on quality, board locations and design topology. Thanks Hans!

    Have you compared the sound of Hypex nCore to ClassDAudio and ICEpower? The other two have some products out there at a fraction of the cost, so I'm very interested if they are at least as good sounding as nCore. I presume the ClassDAudio and ICEpower are supposed to be better than Hypex UcD.

    • @kimhansen6384
      @kimhansen6384 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not exactly a fraction of the price, the high end-NewClassD modules are around 25% more expensive than the NC400. I dont know about the Ice Power, because they a harder to buy as a private customer. But it could be nice to hear from people who heard more/all of them.
      I have had the high end NewClassD modules with discrete opamps at the input - the sounded very good, but I didn´t have any of the others to compare with.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s always the implementation. Most manufacturers of quality amps modify the modules or skip the input section. Psu’s also make a difference.

      Were you able to try q Class D Audio product yet? I've been thinking about giving them a try. Also thinking about Orchard Audio

    It would be interesting to see some reviews of the new class-D modules, like IcePower AS1200. Seems you get a lot of quality for the price (and from what I read, it sounds much better than the NC400 reviewed here and is cheaper).
