Arsenal came so close to winning the Premier League in 2022/23. They came so close thanks to some big money transfers. They have followed that up by spending big again heading into the 2023/24 season. They have Champions League money to look forward to, and a bigger share of TV revenue.
But can they justify their spending?
Phil Buckingham explains. Marco Bevilacqua illustrates.

Arsene Wenger, he's done it again....
This is why we love Tifo, I was having so much difficulty understanding how Arsenal are able to spend this much and Tifo is like I got you partner
One of the key things has been, as was mentioned here, they have kept their payroll way lower (over 100 million below chelsea, Utd, & City) than the other richest clubs in the prem. Another bonus to their shift in 2020 to buying players mostly 23 amd under.
Honestly, that is quite an easy question to answer. They are in the EPL, which means they instantly have 100 mil to spend each year. And now they finished 2nd which means they get a load of money from participating in the Champions League as well. That together with the fact that Arsenal are one of the 6 biggest clubs in England means they don't have a lot of issues spending that kind of money right now.
@@MrReese it's not that simple mate
@@leobestbote4244 Actually literally is, as you have seen in the video as well. The only thing I did not mention that the video did was that they have a lot smaller wage bill than the other big teams, which makes sense with several big earners like Özil, Auba and Laca being gone by now.

I can't tell you how good it feels to hear, see and feel my club is healthy. 30 years being a Gooner, the last 10 years have been so difficult, but this brings joy to my heart and a tear to my eye.
as a spurs fan, it sucks to see arsenal doing so well but it's genuinely deserved. you played brilliant football last season and challenged man city for the prem which was something noone expected. but obviously you've got fans that ruin it for you. a lot of football fans were genuinely excited for arsenal (apart from chelsea and spurs) but then you lot had to be arrogant and obnoxious.

Arsenal have done a great job over the past couple of years but the next few will be vital. They are now mixing with the top teams again and are starting to pay top wages to many of their players. They still have some expensive contracts to renew over the next few years to avoid losing players like Odegaard. Good to have Arseanl back at the top table though especially with the brand of football they are playing.
every year is vital. Past and present, and future. Kinda senseless to specifically say next few years are vital. Even if they mess it up, it's not like they'll cease to exist. Just a downcycle to bounce back from again. The sport will always be here and so will Arsenal.

Forgot to mention Arsenal have signed a £12 Million pound deal with Amazon for the "All or Nothing" documentary which was due for payment in May 2023 and a new commercial deal with "Prime" energy drink which is valued at £15 Million to the club over the course of the next 3 years. They're financially stable so it makes sense for them to be able to pull of huge transfer fees which in essence are actually paid in installments and not in 1 go. Also Vinai and Josh recently explained in a video that their interests payments on outstanding loans has been at the lowest levels since 2001 that adds another factor. The abuse from fans is unnecessary. They do not know better than the people who run the club. It was clear that Arsenal was determined to return to elite level when they appointed Arteta as manager. Say what you want about Stan Kroenke he knows how to handle massive sums of money. Also, his wife is a Walton (family who owns Wal-Mart) so he doesn't have to worry. Also, we have to thank Wenger for his financial genius. Arsenal did struggle for a while but they bought the Emirates Stadium outright and own no debt on it. Their Stadium is pure profit and with the run last season, fans will sell out every match this season from the FA Cup to the CL so Arsenal will be fine. I can't wait for this season and see how they do.
And you really think those players really come out of kroenke pockets. So why didn't kroenke support Wenger then by demanding Wenger spend big or get sacked?
What I find key here is Arsenal’s ability to keep expenses low, particularly wages. They terminated heavy contracts and loaned players they couldn’t sell.
What I find outstanding is the power of broadcasting. It can’t be understated.

They are one of the biggest stadium in EPL and now are back in Campion league so .. why they are woory of FFP Tell us.... Why it is different?
As a Chelsea fan, this gives me hope. We can drop out of Champions league spots and still not be totally hamstrung in the transfer market (not that we have been). The difference is the board at Arsenal seem to get with, while our board feels like a bunch of peole all doing things without any coordination.
The problem with Chelsea is wages. Its... still somewhat a problem despite all the sales as your selling all the academy players who were on lower contracts anyway.
The key thing that can't be ignored about Chelsea is that although their purchases have been disorganized, similar to the way Arsenal have rebuilt the last three years Chelsea have bought talented and extremely young players. For all Boehly's negatives I bet he has been a key part of investing in youth. It's similar to how the LA Dodgers, the baseball team Boehly was involved with, are run.
I have always been envious of Chelsea during the Abramovich era. They were a very successful team, but they could have been even more successful if they had been able to stick to a manager for a long period of time. Unlike Klopp at Liverpool or Pep at City, who have both overseen long term projects at their clubs. If Chelsea had been able to do this with a top manager during Abramovich era, they could have dominated European football for a sustained period of time.
@@GamerFlair They are. But this summer it seems things are going on the right track. I hope we still manage to offload players who are on big wages (Lukaku being the biggest problem) and reduce our wage bill.
@@Asshat237 It seems disorganised because it is. We have far too many wingers. Pulisic going is nice and all, but all the young players we have bought are wingers too. On the other hand our cental midfield is threadbare at the moment
*About damn time!*
I would like a review of liverpool finance aswell.
Why can so many clubs spend huge amout of money while liverpool is lagging behind
Yeah, make one about how Liverpool never have as much money to spend as their rivals whether we are better than them or not.
I stuck by Wenger all those years even when our fans ungratefully shooed the man out of the club like a dirty stray cat. It was disgusting behaviour, something I'll never be proud of witnessing as a gooner. The man dedicated and devoted his life and even sacrificed his marriage for the club. People still don't understand the significance of finishing 4th each season for our club in a period where we were financially crippled by the stadium debt. Just making it to CL each season, was a fine feat, in which Wenger achieved 18yrs straight (only 2nd to Real Madrid at the time), on a shoe-string budget, against oil lottery teams in Chelsea and Man City. Even then Utd were still spending big and so were Liverpool. Fans screamed "4th isn't a trophy" without giving Wenger any credit for his vast achievements to be there every season. He did it against all odds, even after selling our best players to City and Utd. It is this consistency that saw us through tough times and all those 4th place finishes set the foundation we stand tall on today. Wenger will always be a special manager in our club history and imo is still one of the best managers to ever grace the game. I always imagine what Wenger could have done with the money we have today. I see the same thing in Arteta. Wenger always said Arteta would make a great coach one day. He was definitely right. Arteta is on the verge of winning major trophies. I'm confident we'll be dominating the EPL in the next few years and continue competing with Europe's top teams. I will celebrate our future trophies with Arteta and the team, but I will never forget and will always celebrate Arsene Wenger!

3:17 I did not just hear you say "Tottenham Hotspurs" did I?
The reason is because of how little & careful they have been over the last couple of years. Owners didn’t spend much until 2018.
If nothing happens to Chelsea for spending 400 million on a window, nothing will happen to anyone for spending 200
Will there be a similar video with Newcastle 🤔

Please do one on why Manchester United is facing FFP issues while they have a huge revenue comparatively
United's losses over the last 3 years stands at ~ £200m, their ffp situation depends on what they can deduct due to pandemic/community development/infrastructure/women's football. The big problem with them is that the Glazers do not do many community projects, do not invest in the stadium, and do not re-invest in the club by buying shares, which other PL owners do (all those things would be deductible from ffp losses).
