This must have been in the archives, never shown to the public. A drug high on the part of the writer(s)... 1961? Very bizarre...I agree with the references to acid and LSD.
LSD was first synthesized in 1938. The CIA was heavily testing it on servicemen in the '50s, and it was being used in psychiatry to enhance psychotherapy during that time as well. So... there was LSD in 1961, it was legal, and it was somewhat out in the public.
Shouldn't there be some rear-end damage to the Chevy after that old bloke in that jalopy rear-ended it when the car becomes visible for a short time near the end?
1:32 Man, just blare on the horn! My first vehicle was a 1961 Chevy Impala 4 door, hardtop, and I can attest to their horns being extremely loud, loud enough that a couple of blares, and all of those animals should scatter!!!
free acid with every new 61 chevrolet, for a limited time only.
Yes, there is a magic car with a magic ride in this commercial but it is the Citroen DS.
The Citroën DS probably had the best suspension ever invented. You didn't even need a jack to change a flat tire!
A lot more interesting than any commercial today.
Without a doubt, one of the WIERDEST car commercials I HAVE EVER SEEN!!
With good reason; this is a very strange commercial.
Didnt think LSD was available when this was made.
Well, that was interesting!! LOL.....I bet this commercial was talked about around the water cooler back in the day!
So, this must have been the result of the Mad Men episode when Roger Sterling dropped acid?
HAHAHA!!! The guy in the crappy 1930's car at 1:20 was hilarious!!!

As was the case with Cary Grant who publicly admitted to taking LSD.
It was before there was unleaded fuel. Maybe people got higher on all the gas fumes?
No wonder Ford outsold Chevrolet in '61.
@cornerwindows What'd we have for acid 50 years ago though?
???

so strange. but i like it.
Very trippy! I'd be very surprised if this commercial went public. 1961 on acid!
Me gusta el carro
Guess that was GM's idea of a "clever" ad in 1960. Not.
That came in the hippie movement did it not? Wouldn't that not happen for another 6 years?
This commercial was a precursor to the hippie movement.
Uh... LSD?
Yes, LSD.
Feels like _riding_ nothing at all.
