It was a simpler time in the development of television entertainment, and television news. Video cameras were not affordable by middle class earners, or poor people. Neither were video tape recorders. There was no internet. You were not permitted by the telephone to attach your own telephone dialer and transceiver to the telephone company's telephone wire. Even the wires inside your house or apartment were laid there by the phone company and belonged to the phone company. However the atomic bomb existed, the hydrogen bomb too. These were neither technologically simple, nor devoid of impact on culture and politics. We had jet engine air planes providing passenger service from all over the planet. TV entertainment and news may have provided the illusion that the culture and politics of the US were simple, but they were not.
The '65 Impala was a very handsome car. My dad bought a '65 BelAir. It was pretty basic but still a good looking and reliable car. And loads of interior and trunk room. Massive by today's standard.
I still own a car I bought for 750. In 1989 big block SS Impala .Very fortunate for the car and myself , over it's past 55 years this driver car escaped the crusher a few times .
Can you imagine what a five and a half minute commercial would cost in today's market? Not to mention getting the stars of all a network's "top shows" at the time to be in the commercial.

Some may remember that back then they didn't clear out the house between showings of the film. "One-price" admission & you could watch as long as you wanted. You could stay & see it again. Or Saturday afternoons had their "double-feature" matinee & between showings there were various short films including cartoons, newsreels & advertising.

The entire Chevrolet line for 1965 was beautiful. Well planned, well styled, solid and dependable and not expensive to maintain. I remember these cars when they were new and I was a kid. They were introduced at our local Chevy dealer in September 1964. I really liked the 1965 Corvair Corsa and the 1965 Impala 2 dr hardtop. Then they introduced the 1965 Caprice and it was very elegant and a great top of the line model which I liked too.

Notwithstanding any other vehicles, the current iteration of the Corvette kicks the crap out of Italian and German supercars which cost 5 times the price. So they have that going for them . . . Which is nice.
From 1958-1969 the sheet metal changed EVERY YEAR on those IMPALAS! Now that's creativity. It was a Big Deal in the Fall when the new Model Year would hit the Dealerships. They were wrapped up on the transport trucks and the showroom windows were covered up before the unveiling of the next new body. Those days are long gone and for us that were lucky enough to be alive back then....memories......
Was a great time. As a kid I remember going to dealer and my dad bought a 65 impala. As a kid I wanted the fastback style. (SS) But my dad bought the family version. Funny. First thing my mother did was put plastic seat covers over the cloth material seats. She was so afraid of us kids spilling something. Haha. But every year you waiting to see new model
I watched bonanza and bewitched religiously but being 7yrs old I don't remember this commercial. My Uncle purchased a maroon 65 Impala in August and took us for a ride. What a beautiful car. Chevrolet was the sponsor for Bewitched and on the show everyone had a beautiful Chevrolet. In 81 I purchased my first car..A 68 metallic gold Caprice.

You are aware, that we dropped more ordinance on Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, than ALL of the ordinance used by ALL combatants in WW2? 4 million people killed in their own homeland, over political ideals! This was the reality for millions of Koreans, as well as Vietnamese, after two superpowers had them split up for their own selfish reasons. I was proud to be a veteran, but now, as an educated old man, my thoughts have changed. I am also a descendant, of the victims of the largest mass execution in U.S. history! The Dakota38. Not really. ANY modern car is superior in every way that matters to anything from 1965. You can argue about the styling, which was of it's time, as the current one is of it's time, but by any objective measure, modern cars are superior to old iron. And I collect old cars.

What I find interesting is that the stars were on different networks. Back then the networks were very interested in only promoting their own stars and programs. Bewitched was on ABC....Bonanza on NBC. Back then, ABC was always number 3, except they had a real hit with Bewitched. Chevrolet was happy to sponsor that show !

On the film lot of this studio, they were filming episodes of the Brady Bunch at the same time. Hogans Heroes was on the far SW corner while My Three Sons and Leave It to Beaver were near by. Classic all. Many do not know that Lauren was bald and worn a hair piece. Dan Blocker tells a funny scene at a Dock where Lauren gets knocked into the water. He stayed under water as only his hand came up to grab the floating hair. He would not go anywhere without it. Few know the actor who was “Hop Sing” is 98 in August 2022 and appeared in 498 tv shows and movies. He got a star in Hollywood in July 2022 for movies from “Big Trouble in Little China” with Kurt Russel and hundreds of others!

1964, '65 and '66 Impalas are iconic -- great cars! You'd have to know what it's like to drive one in order to appreciate it. I drool whenever I see one on the road whether it's fully restored or not.
@@caddyjoint96 oh trust me those days once you got 65000 miles you had better start looking to trade. Only ac you got was under dash mounted. Tires lasted only around 20000 miles. Carburetor got all gunked up from dirty gas.

In an interview in 92 Lizzy, she like to be called that said Bewitched was the best time of her life. She never missed a day of work in the 8 year run. She passed away too young at 62. I have all the season's on DVD. RIP to all the old great actors that have passed on.

Elizabeth Montgomery was just so much of a Milf.. Not called that back then even though the sentiment for her was the same. She will always have a place in my heart. 1965 was a great year for car buyers as I liked every one of those cars and most are some of the most popular cars for collectors today. This was back when they created cars that people would want.
My late great frugal father drove a 1965 Nova until he left us in 1983. He was a Coca-Cola marketing exec who could have afforded much more. No power steering, no AC. That car still ran among my distant kin who last owned it in the 2010s if I can find who they are.
All the different network stars show up on this Chevrolet promo film because all the shows were at one time sponsored by Chevrolet. Shows back in the 60's had full sponsorship, which (usually) meant they paid all the commercials on the premiere episodes, but not the re-runs. In turn, they got rights (like above) to "borrow" the stars and their characters for these ad agency films. Ad agency McCann Erickson was one of the best in doing these (and the necessary contract terms) in this regard (as depicted in Mad Men). FYI: Chevy went back to McCann back in 2012, and is currently still with them.
I had a '65 Chevelle 2 door hardtop with a 283 and a 2 speed powerglide automatic transmission. I bought it in December of '80. It was my high school car. Lots of great memories of driving to school my senior year. It was a great car.
The 1965 line-up by Chevrolet was unlike another other. Each car was unique in styling. I remember our 1965 Impala. It moved for a 283, 2 speed auto. There was nothing like that turquoise paint. Even look at the Chevy II. That is an instant classic. It was a shame what Nader did. If there was an Internet back then, such a financially motivated attack would have never happened. Unsafe at any speed? Look at the results of today's fuel efficient cars on you tube. People die as there is nothing left when they crash. A controlled, off sided barrier crash at 45mph is nothing like two vehicles crashing at 70mph into each other. I have seen the results of Hondas and other small cars smashed into cubes on the highway. There is nothing left of the inhabitants. Even today many pickups offer little in protection although they look invincible. Unfortunately, fuel economies have killed tens of thousands and more to follow with each mpg uptick.
What an amazing & bonkers ad, I thought I'd seen it all. Even today we don't have ads like this in the UK, the strict advertising rules don't allow direct links between shows, stars and advertising, although I think it's being considered. Thanks Brian.
Those of you making deriding, snide comments need to remember the '65 Impala sold over a million units for the model year, a record never bettered. Yeah, the ads may have been cheesy and contrived, but they helped make Chevrolet cars sell pretty well. My dad bought the Impala wagon for '65. It was a good car, after we got a mechanic to tune it right, but dad said it was not the best handling car. He said it loved to wander.
That was the year that it first became a full size car. Still had the small block V8 327 as before but not as sporty. We had the '63 and the '65 growing up.
The old days they changed the style of them every year...I was a kid and looked forward to what they would look like from year to year...They were all beautiful and stream lined

My woodshop teacher had a 65 Impala SS. It was (and is ) a beautiful car. Especially with the bucket seats the SS had.

The 4-door pillarless 'hardtop' Corvair was a goodlooking car. Ashame there are no more 4-door hardtops made today. The Vette is gorgeous!

I remember the Bonanza Special shows every year with no commercials until the end when they introduced the new Chevy lineup for the year. Always exciting!
I drove the Chevy 2 to high school for 2 years. We even put an 8 track player in the glove box. Great times.

My first car was a 1965 Biscayne. It was a nice car.
The Biscayne was the 'strippo' full-size Chevy model. They made great cop cars and could be ordered with a big-block V8.
My first was a 65 sedan, plate # LAD334.

Not really. ANY modern car is superior in every way that matters to anything from 1965. You can argue about the styling, which was of it's time, as the current one is of it's time, but by any objective measure, modern cars are superior to old iron. And I collect old cars.
@@jamesw1659 If you're gonna go by safety and electronics the modern one is obviously gonna win. But the thrill of driving something like that with a 4 on the floor, convertible, and the hum of a 327 easily beats the 2017.

Yep, lived it my self as a kid. Seems like everyone living at the time just took it as another regular day each day without thinking about how precious those times were. Took it for granted. Life was definitely much simpler back then. We all didn't really know that in the next 57 years would be hell!

My Dad bought a (new) 1965 Chevy II station wagon. Six cylinder with the 2-speed Powerglide (?) transmission. I bought it from him in 1972 for my first car.

What I find interesting is that the stars were on different networks. Back then the networks were very interested in only promoting their own stars and programs. Bewitched was on ABC....Bonanza on NBC. Back then, ABC was always number 3, except they had a real hit with Bewitched. Chevrolet was happy to sponsor that show !
America was so much better in 1965 than it is today, so much better. And the cars had so much more style.
Only gm could put a 427 in a corvette and a luggage rack on the trunk. Not to mention a sideways am radio. Lol

On the film lot of this studio, they were filming episodes of the Brady Bunch at the same time. Hogans Heroes was on the far SW corner while My Three Sons and Leave It to Beaver were near by. Classic all. Many do not know that Lauren was bald and worn a hair piece. Dan Blocker tells a funny scene at a Dock where Lauren gets knocked into the water. He stayed under water as only his hand came up to grab the floating hair. He would not go anywhere without it. Few know the actor who was “Hop Sing” is 98 in August 2022 and appeared in 498 tv shows and movies. He got a star in Hollywood in July 2022 for movies from “Big Trouble in Little China” with Kurt Russel and hundreds of others!
I knew Lauren was bald. But I can't remember how I knew. That was way back in the 70's that I found out. I did not know Hop Sing was still alive.

65 Impala is the ultimate classic.- take care of that beauty - I love Bullitt - I graduated form USF and can name every street and corner on that classic movie.

1964, '65 and '66 Impalas are iconic -- great cars! You'd have to know what it's like to drive one in order to appreciate it. I drool whenever I see one on the road whether it's fully restored or not.

Only ac you got was under dash mounted.
Tires lasted only around 20000 miles. Carburetor got all gunked up from dirty gas.

Yeah, the very sight of Agnes Moorhead duct-taped to the trunk of a Nova rolling down Main Street in Virginia City at 30 mph probably brought a few dozen folks to the showroom. That ad business was really persuasive back then.

In an interview in 92 Lizzy, she like to be called that said Bewitched was the best time of her life. She never missed a day of work in the 8 year run. She passed away too young at 62. I have all the season's on DVD. RIP to all the old great actors that have passed on.
Wow I dont remember this commercial & I was always glued to the screen back then. Yes good to see all The old Stars do a commercial together of Bonanza & Bewitched. Elizabeth Montgomery was just so much of a Milf.. Not called that back then even though the sentiment for her was the same. She will always have a place in my heart. I can remember her doing an episode with Charles Bronson in the Twilight Zone. I was smitten ❤ with her back then ! Thanks for the Video 👍
1965 was a great year for car buyers as I liked every one of those cars and most are some of the most popular cars for collectors today. This was back when they created cars that people would want.
My late great frugal father drove a 1965 Nova until he left us in 1983. He was a Coca-Cola marketing exec who could have afforded much more. No power steering, no AC. That car still ran among my distant kin who last owned it in the 2010s if I can find who they are.
All the different network stars show up on this Chevrolet promo film because all the shows were at one time sponsored by Chevrolet. Shows back in the 60's had full sponsorship, which (usually) meant they paid all the commercials on the premiere episodes, but not the re-runs. In turn, they got rights (like above) to "borrow" the stars and their characters for these ad agency films. Ad agency McCann Erickson was one of the best in doing these (and the necessary contract terms) in this regard (as depicted in Mad Men). FYI: Chevy went back to McCann back in 2012, and is currently still with them.
I had a '65 Chevelle 2 door hardtop with a 283 and a 2 speed powerglide automatic transmission. I bought it in December of '80. It was my high school car. Lots of great memories of driving to school my senior year. It was a great car.
Now that is when cars were actually beautiful and stylish as well as powerful

The Chevrolet in the USA was "sooo great!" I lived through it, and it was, all in all, a great time "to be alive and live in the USA!
The 1965 line-up by Chevrolet was unlike another other. Each car was unique in styling. I remember our 1965 Impala. It moved for a 283, 2 speed auto. There was nothing like that turquoise paint. Even look at the Chevy II. That is an instant classic.
It was a shame what Nader did. If there was an Internet back then, such a financially motivated attack would have never happened. Unsafe at any speed? Look at the results of today's fuel efficient cars on you tube. People die as there is nothing left when they crash. A controlled, off sided barrier crash at 45mph is nothing like two vehicles crashing at 70mph into each other. I have seen the results of Hondas and other small cars smashed into cubes on the highway. There is nothing left of the inhabitants. Even today many pickups offer little in protection although they look invincible. Unfortunately, fuel economies have killed tens of thousands and more to follow with each mpg uptick.

What an amazing & bonkers ad, I thought I'd seen it all. Even today we don't have ads like this in the UK, the strict advertising rules don't allow direct links between shows, stars and advertising, although I think it's being considered. Thanks Brian.

Those of you making deriding, snide comments need to remember the '65 Impala sold over a million units for the model year, a record never bettered. Yeah, the ads may have been cheesy and contrived, but they helped make Chevrolet cars sell pretty well. My dad bought the Impala wagon for '65. It was a good car, after we got a mechanic to tune it right, but dad said it was not the best handling car. He said it loved to wander.
That was the year that it first became a full size car. Still had the small block V8 327 as before but not as sporty. We had the '63 and the '65 growing up.
