    Thank you for that. Reminds me of Horby's MAGNADHESION of many years ago. I'm with you on drilling holes invalidating a warranty, as it would become an unapproved modification. 👍👍👍

      I must admit I wasn’t sure how well it would work, so I’m very pleased with the result.

    Also, I thank you for your answer (and patience) to an old DC geezer like me! As you said, TT120 is encouraging people to come back to model railways.

    Thanks for that. I think I now have a better idea of what the ‘silver’ wire is for on the Peco Unifrog points (turnout) is for and if it is required for HM7000. Looks like I will need to experiment with things a bit.
    I too wished for an incline on my layout and stumbled across DCC concepts Powerbase (including a TH-cam video) which helped make it a choice. I like your decision to use Araldite Metal and advice about removing if necessary. I was going to hot glue them on, but your method is probably less messy?

    • @PeachyTT120
      @PeachyTT120  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hot glue will probably work, I just haven’t a glue gun. 😃

      Found this video on TH-cam (by Peco) which explains UNIFROG:

      Also explains why it doesn’t short ⚡️. Makes more sense now 🙄😆

    Coming back to modeling now, iv bought a tt120 Easterner with a couple of track packs and HM7000, decided im going to build a layout and looking forward to it :)

    I like your down to earth approach. I’ve got a couple of the Peco points. I haven’t bothered powering the frog for now. I have power to all of the track via my DCC bus so I didn’t think it was necessary. On the Powerbase stupid question but there is no power/electrical involved I assume. Just shear magnetism! Any idea what gradient it could handle? I’m thinking of having a little coal train going up the hill in the future probably about 10%

    • @PeachyTT120
      @PeachyTT120  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cheers for the supportive comment Damian.
      TBH the Peco points are so smooth and these new TT120 locos have so many pickups the unpowered frog isn’t a problem other than at the slowest of crawling speeds.
      Yes you’re correct, no power required for power base, it’s purely magnets aiding traction. As for climbing 10% ? I’ve no idea, I’ve not tried steeper than 3% I guess you’ll need to run some tests before you build.

    Even on the video, with magnets it sounds firmer on the rails, The Hornby layout slung together on a table is a bit rough and ready, but even with best efforts i do get some wheel spin at slower speeds, i like the speed and sound of those magnets, will definitly be a feature of my layout :)

    • @PeachyTT120
      @PeachyTT120  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They’re certainly very helpful, especially with these earlier models. Perhaps the later stuff Hornby produces will perform better? It seems they’ve updated the specs on the princesses/duchesses with cast boilers for added weight and brushless motors

    Hello Peachy, i've been watching your TT120 videos for inspiration. I now have both the Easterner and Scotsman sets and am looking to build a multi-layer layout so the Powerbase looks especially appealing to help with the track rises needed. Having checked DCC Concepts web page I could only find Powerbase in OO or N, so am I right in assuming you have used N size under your track?
    Recently, just to see if it would work, I took two Metcalfe stone viaduct kits, widened them by 10mm and altered the cladding on the pillars to create an 8 arch viaduct just 25" in length. Setting the normal 43mm track centres to 41mm for the viaduct will allow me adequate clearance for two trains to pass at once.

    • @PeachyTT120
      @PeachyTT120  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the N gauge power base is what I used.
      And nice work with the Metcalfe kit. Although I do hope one day that they take the plunge into TT120

    Looking great, did you remove the electrical tape from the front bogie?

    • @PeachyTT120
      @PeachyTT120  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh yes, as soon as I got it out of the box!
      To be fair to Hornby, the front bogie wasn’t a problem until I attempted pulling a full size train up a curved incline, although saying that, one of the very reasons I chose this scale was to do exactly such a thing.
      The DCC concepts system was always something I was going to have to test out if my plans for my big loft layout are to come to fruition, hence the test on the little tail chaser.

    Hi Jimmy. Congratulations on your promotion to editor! Peachy: Given the "analogue" nature of your point (turnout) switching, would a frog juicer work? (I think the "G" in MERG is "hard".) Unless I'm losing my mind (always a possibility) I thought you said in an early video you would be using the HM7000 DCC system for controlling your layout (or is that for your subsequent layout?). I noticed that during the latter running session you had, what, six coaches? There were all displaying interior lighting. Did you buy additional coaches with lighting, or did you fit lighting to some/all of them yourself?

    • @PeachyTT120
      @PeachyTT120  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Paul, yes I think you’re right about the G, but I still can’t quite kick the habit of calling them Smerge like they’re some kind of secret criminal gang of electrical masterminds 😂
      8 lit Pullmans I think you’ll find! 😊 Hornby sell 5 fitted, so I bought 3 extra of the named 1st class kitchens purely for the lighting, swapped over the bodies from the Scotsman set then sold them on Facebook as I’d rightly assumed some people would prefer a rake of unlit all with different names.
      As for Bluetooth DCC HM7000, yes definitely. Just need to finish wiring up the track properly.
      Frog Juice? What’s that then? Sounds disgusting 🤢

    • @PaulSmith-pl7fo
      @PaulSmith-pl7fo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PeachyTT120 Frog juicers are small electronic devices that detect short circuits caused by the switching of turnouts and then switch the polarity of the frog. This happens so quickly that the loco does notice the short circuit and continues on its merry way.

      Never a pain to hear from a subscriber, I promise. The motors I used on Marwar Junction were Hornby’s 00.
      On this layout (Camelot) they’re all hand-o-matic 😃
