Clive Barker's Jericho is a first person shooter survival horror video game with author Clive Barker providing the premise of the storyline. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007.
Jericho 's core gameplay consists of leading the game's seven-man team codenamed Jericho, allowing control of all team members by jumping to each character during certain points in the game, through various environments that have been warped by the Firstborn while fighting off a variety of twisted creatures.
The game also features several "survival events" where the player must press the corresponding buttons or keys shown on screen in order to successfully survive. Additionally, each team member has both a primary and a secondary attack, either in the form of an alternate fire such as a grenade launcher on a rifle, or a secondary weapon such as a sword or pistol that can be dual wielded. While the game is a first person shooter, the ability to control different members of one's squad adds a tactical element; players must determine which squad member is appropriate for each particular job. Not only does each squad member have different strengths and weaknesses, but they also each have a unique ability (or supernatural abilities in some cases). This allows the player freedom in choosing a playing style that suits them throughout much of the game. However, during certain instances, certain characters are unplayable.
The squad's supernatural abilities play a prominent role in the game. The character the player originally controls is a psychic healer (medic) with the ability to fully heal fallen comrades that are close to death. Other squad members have other powers, such as summoning a fire demon, slowing time, firing a guided bullet, and leeching life from enemies to add it to one's own.
I remember finishing this game multiple times for the story alone.
Me too man - it didn't play that well, but it made me feel so uneasy/desperate that I played it and replayed it. The disgusting design Mercury put into the game was awesome.
Ya the game play was kinda bad but I love the story and the lore. I also loved the art style.
I had a lot of fun playing this game and I wish there were more games willing to take the "M" seriously. The story was great and I did enjoy the characters, to include their interactions like when you swap into a character and they comment "Ross is that you???". I liked the fact that you play as "Ross" a disembodied member of the team so that swapping felt more like his choice not yours. The only thing I started to dislike was the repeating of enemies where you would fight the same type of boss 3 times in a row. otherwise the body horror is one of the best I have ever seen and it made me feel like the fate of the characters was really on the line. Entering further into the Demon hell scape was really really fun.
The story and lore was very unique and imo fantastic. I loved going through each time period, the lore of the firstborn, the bosses and etc. I wish the made a sequel to explore the lore more
Agree with you all, fantastic story and envoirment and lore and all. Repetitive only ok gameplay, but not bad enough to make me hate it.
I miss back when weird games like this always got made. I'd love to get a possible remake of this, but I'm not holding my breath for it.
There a game comming out called Evil West (cowboys vs Vampires) , seems as the industry is creatively bankrupt and evything is just woke COD or SoulsLike, weird games like this are popping up a bit more
Well they dont get made because morons say this is the worst game ever, while love Riddick and modern Sony movie crap
@@RealBadGaming52Wanted Dead, Gungrave Gore, Werewolf Apocalypse eventho technically shitty it got its charm bring me back to good ol days where we used to get Suda51 kind of game.
Also craving game like Lollipop Chainsaw, Shadow of Damned, Wet, Brutal Legend, Fist of North Star, Twisted Metal. Damn I’m such a member berries!
I really liked Jericho. Not only for the story, but the fights actually make you feel like you're on a full scale war against overwhelming evil. Enemies are insane bullet sponges until you learn how to kill them effectively. Your squad is shooting indiscriminately and going through them ineffectively to make room for you to shine, because otherwise with 5 people and all their firepower battles would be trivial.
I think this game would have been a million times better if it had coop
It's an oxymoron that this game doesn't have a coop.
the reason this game doesn't have a coop is that there some part of the level like rome which you have to use the fire user guy to get past some burning steel bars and ground
@Brupcat do you know any other games that has switching character concept too other than clive barker’s jericho?
@@RandomReacts The old ghost recon games, and SOCOM combined assault
@@zanechandler4709 thank you I’ll look for it 😇
I love this game, really love it, I just don’t get why so many people dislike it so much. I found the atmosphere incredible and adored the time travelling plot. It’s one of those special games I can just play over and over and never get bored!
everybody give bad reviews to this game saying it's a bad game, but in the comments section i only see people saying they love the game xD
meh, its a game, where everyone has a part of it they really adore and a part of it which they really hate - I know, this sounds like it could be said for each game ever made, but here it is really strange - there is that part where it really really pisses u off, while really liking another part
ppl have Stockholm syndrome... rly
I hated it so theres that.
I've played it. It was boring and repetitive.
lisandro rose bunch of hipsters
I actually really enjoyed this one but will admit that the team AI is pretty bad. The combat isn't all that engaging either but the scenery and story keep me glued, it's pretty unique for a videogame. I used Delgado mostly, doing a combination of his minigun and the fire dragon. I also used Abigail a lot as her sniper ghost shot (or whatever it's called) is pretty useful, and I would use her rocket-launcher shot Quake-style, aiming at the ground and letting the blast damage kill enemies. When you get into a groove and learn how to really mow down enemies it's fun, but I'd say the first playthrough for anyone will probably be pretty rough.
Hey look! It's Clive Barker's Clive Barker's Jericho, by Clive Barker!

Clive Barker!
say what you want about me, but I love this game. I know gameplaywise it isn't all that great, but when I got it in 2008 (I was 14 btw) it blew my mind with its story, designs, concepts, spectacle. I dunno, it just felt awesome from the moment I saw the first monster and started shooting at it, to the epic conclusion, it was quite a journey, felt really amazing going back in time up to Sumer (I didn't even know what it was back then). And to this day I enjoy replaying it from time to time.
+PyroNexus22 You're not alone bud
Same iam playing it every year again scince 2008 now iam 18 :D
Yes the game has some nice area designs, some interesting enemies and good atmosphere.. The game left something in me too however not as much as in you it seems but I wasnt 14 when I played it and thats a thing that matters too as I too love some old total shit games that were received mostly negatively
im going to guess you were young at the time and didnt know what a good game was.
Fucking same brother. I would put this on the big screen livinroom , alright fam, we skipping church again.
this should be made into a movie
Cool how Clive Barker actually wrote the story for this unlike someone whose name is on Ubisoftgames...
“The“Caretaker Well, considering Tom Clancy is dead as fuck, it's hard for him to write anything.
With that said, Tom Clancy's name with his games was more to do with his producer position and ownership of those respective franchises. Just because he didn't write every game doesn't mean his name should've been discarded. And now that he's dead, it's a sign of respect to a man whose franchises have brought Ubisoft a good amount of money.
“The“Caretaker Aha, don't worry about it, mate. A bit of innocent ignorance, which everyone's guilty of. And now you know why Tom Clancy's name is attached, so that's one more thing you know now that you didn't 24 hours ago. As they say, you learn something knew every day. :P
Aedan Clarke Okay :) you're a really nice guy!
“The“Caretaker Thank you for saying as much. I certainly try to be. :P
+Aedan Clarke Tom Clancy didn't have shit to do with either the Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell franchises. Only Rainbow Six was based on his original material, and his involvement in any game development has been nearly nonexistent besides the use of his name. So if anything, the use of his name was to only to market these franchises to those already familiar with his moniker and brand of espionage/military fiction, and to introduce a new gamer audience to him. Not to give him credit for contributing much of anything. And Clancy was alive when 95% of games in these 3 franchises were released and still contributed nothing besides the lone Rainbow Six novel from 1998. So yeah, it's pretty cool that Clive Barker actually wrote the story to a game instead of lending his name for promotional purposes and getting a check in the mail for contributing nothing to the development.
The Clive Barker style, especially the visual aspect of it, is what I really like about this game. So much so that it redeems the mediocre gameplay for me. But out of his two games I'd say Undying is overall better.
It was a great horror game in that period. Concept of technology and horror mixed with a cool storyline. Even the concept of using multiple playable characters was something new back then. Absolutely loved it.
This game was a staple part of my childhood when it came to horror games. Loved it and wish I could replay it on the newer consoles.
just get the steam deck
@@cuchuoi12 its not on steam
@@fireemblemistrash75 not anymore? i still have it in my library
this game is something special for me, I just love it, I have play it like 15 times, it have story, gameplay, characters and much more
dantles1992 Same here
I love the game too, the gameplay might be plain, but everything else is appealing in so many levels
how?!?! game-play is abysmal. story and characters feel like it was written by a 12 year old goth
Reeo Thec the artstyle is instanty recognizable, especially the Monsters. It's the closest thing to hellraiser in terms of artstyle. Story is nothing special and is nothing that the game itself emphasizes, it's more about style than substance.
Well how, easily. I don't think gameplay is bad at all myself.
Having different characters instead of just different weapons is neat.
Environments and enemy design is just amazing. There is no other game with this style. (Well soon enough there will be Agony which I'm looking forward to for this very same reason.)
It simply feels lot like Serious Sam/Painkiller type of shooter just with less enemies so you progress trough each level more swiftly. Which is perfect because shooting itself does not feel quite as fun as in those games.
I was actually really suprised when I learned that this game is so hated, when it came out I played trough it several times as well. Pretty much purely to go into that world again.
This game is no longer available for purchase on steam.
If you have it, you are lucky.
fuck, i wanted to buy it...
crack it
I really hope they do what they did with Deadpool and others where they put it back on. I think it has something to do with Steam keys or some such shit but you would think that it wouldn't be that hard to have more digital copies of a game.
Lolicon Vaper Atleast its 5 dollars in physical.
I have it :^).
l could not disagree more about the melee character being useless ,it's in fact the key to survive in harder difficulties since when combined with blood spell the sword it's a ONE HIT KILL weapon (for the enemies affected by the restraining blood spell)
Yeah. Sword is the best weapon in here. Stun that one hit kill. Bili No.1 character to play in here. 😁
@@nikolavasic4197 personally i think the sniper was the best character since you just spammed the shit out of the tracking bullet and the headshots oneshot everything
@@Nyxnik some shield characters made that a bitch to use her with. Church and black were definitely the best tho
It looks like having some sort of level progression for the characters could've helped quite a bit. That way the characters could've become more unique as the game progressed by your choices from levelling up.
A guilty pleasure for me I will admit. Part of the reason are the characters, the Jericho Squad, especially when you take the time to read some of their backstories once you unlock them. The story is really interesting, but they never gave it a proper resolution and it could have been awesome if they made a sequel, while improving the gameplay which was one of the biggest complaint people had with the game.
Yeah, it's a damn shame they never made a sequel. I heard that there WERE plans to make a sequel from what I've read up, but it fell through and was cancelled.
I had such good memories playing this game with my friend and struggling to get past the WW2 section with all the turrets. Very under appreciated game, I wish more games would put such effort into the story and world building to make the game world feel unique. the music still gives me shots of nostalgia from playing this game back in highschool 8 years ago
Honestly, this is one of my favourite games. The story is great and the characters are well designed.
Got it for 5 euro and honestly I enjoyed it... Once you learn how to place your team when facing exploding enemies you don't have to revive your team very often you can let the priest do that, same vs the bosses.... Which is why you may enjoy it it more on a second play, already knowing how to place everyone. It's flawed but I still think it's not as bad as people say. If you love the art style and can deal with some shitty qtes, it's worth a shot for a small amount
Great game story ! At that time the graphics where amazing, a good horror atmosphere, one of the few horror games that you had a team to back you up. I dont care about all the bad reviews this game is special for me.
Do a review of The Chronicles of Riddick - Escape From Butcher Bay .
One of the very memorable games i played. I enjoyed every moment i spent playing it. But like he says, it was a wasted potential, it could have been something Great. I wish they consider a remake for this game. It has what it takes to be a big hit.
Jericho features Steve Blum, whose character Spike in Cowboy Bebop used a Jericho.
I agree with you in aspects of the difficulty, but I am disappointed that you didn't mention that in spite of the game being released in '07, it is AT LEAST 2 or so YEARS ahead of its age in terms of visuals. I mean, come on. I can bring up Crysis, for a good game of those years in terms of graphics, but really no other. If I had to say something about how it looks, it should be something like this: Jericho looks gorgeously disgusting.
+Domonics Dániel I think it looks pretty standard for its time to be honest.
+Gggmanlives The cutscenes look good, but the gameplay graphics were standard, if a little lacking in my opinion. They generally tend to put more attention to detail in cutscenes, especially games from that year.
The graphics were decent for their time but I have an issue with the level design - the way the locations look means you'll be getting lost often and just as often need to backtrack.
These old videos of gman show how tamed he was back then as opposed to now lol
Co-op remake would be amazing. Just imagine this game in 4k with improved game mekanics!
we can only hope :)
one problem with this game: its not coop
This game was great to me. The storyline was very entertaining to me at the time.
wait, is this considered one of the worst games of all time? what the fuck
ikr it doesnt look that bad
It's easily better than Chaser, Devastation or Pariah that's for sure
This game had atmosphere. It was creepy. Thats what I liked. The setting and the story.
because it is
It was a memorable game. Dark gloomy setting, good music, good sound effects. It is of those games when u play it alot u will dream it in your sleep.
Thank you for this review! A bought this game a couple of years back I think, it was very cheap and reading the reviews before installing I did not expect much (or anything). But to my everlasting surprise I genuinely loved it. I thought it is a great game and had lots of fun with it. In the end it s just a matter of taste I guess.
The game had great potential and the only thing you never NEVER wanted to hear is the nasty sound of the flies when it´s game over.... thats the only thing that gave me the chills.
I showed my friend Hellraiser, and it blew him away a couple of weeks back. He then sent me a steam code for this game. I had never heard of it. I loved it. Clive Barker's style oozes from every corner of this game. I don't think the reviewer knew how the game was supposed to be played. There are serious flaws, but I feel that is how most forgotten games from a decade ago are. This game is amazing. I never felt it was a horror game, or it was meant to be. I think it was supposed to be a Clive Barker game. Just like Hellraiser and Nightbreed, they have a style that is all their own, and if you go in expecting horror, you are going to have a bad time.
I Agree with you. Loved this game (finished It today btw)
I actually loved this game. I think the fact that you have to constantly be switching characters adds a sense of team playing, in which you don't have to think of yourself as one of the characters, but as the team itself. Also, I just love the monster models and the whole atmosphere, the levels are one giant organism, visceral, organic, gory
This is the type of game that doesn't do well for the hard material critics, but on the artistic side it really rocks. Not just the graphics, story line, but the special techniques each character has. A good game for someone who wants to just get a taste of horror games, but like the feeling of "power" or not being alone.
I don't know how people don't know more about this channel but it is a mazing I appreciate everything that you are doing keeping me up to date even though this was back then but I love everything that you have done so thank you for that I will keep chewing in and I will keep reminding my friends about it thank you
I enjoyed playing it as a sniper girl, I wouldn't able to enjoy this game without that character.
This game was incredible and ahead of it's time!
Love this game. Glad I bought it on Steam way back before they pulled it.
Delgado for life.
Yes, another great game, only thing I wouldn't do was play it at night.
Why?
It's not that scary dude. I spend more time angry because of the gameplay to be honest
bro i was like 11-12 when i first played this game and it was my childhood fav !!!
I remember seeing this game everywhere I went
I really liked this game 😁
With all its flaws this in still one of my favorite games, played through at least 20 times :)
You can get this for like $10 on eBay
I have soft spot for this and Undying.
this is one of my favorite games, dark, atmospheric, u have a squad, i just like it
i played this, when i was 13 and i loved it, now i'm 23 and i still love it.
Nailed it. Thanks for a great review, it's really refreshing to hear so much objective truth about the game every reviewer was shitting on since the day of it's release. Your reviews are as close to the pure objective game journalism/critique as they get.
These reviews are so addicting
The hacker's abilities sound like what somebody who does not understand computers would give to a hacker character.
"Downloading ammo for the squad"
*random mashing of keys"
Her abilities go beyond just hacking. Besides, I think it was a Nice touch since there is no other way to get Ammo. She is the one that does the Checkpoints too
Coop was planned for this by the way. It was where the COOP player plays as a friendly spirit helping the player. It was cut due to time restraints though.
I enjoyed Jericho, every minute of it. It was awesome to be a gamer when this game released. There was so many great games released around this time.
I was too scared to finish this game as a kid
I remember when i first got my PS3 and downloaded the demo. The graphics in this blew me away at the time!
One of my favorite FPS games. Enjoyed playing all the characters and didn't notice "team revive" problem
I just picked this game up on eBay, it should be here in a few days, can't wait to play it.
I respect this channel,i hate same opinions always, when they dickride overrated games and say "WORST GAME EVER" for a game that has the most interesting artstyle and characters in any fps shooter from the ps3 era
Clive Barker is my favorite horror writer and I'm not surprised that video games made over a novel or short story of his doesn't work out. Most about a Clive Barker experience is what goes on inside your head and it just can't be translated onto a screen, in part because it is so deeply dependent on the individual's personal experience. How do you portray a million individual experiences within a game?
Another thing to mention is that games depend to a large degree upon activity, action on part of the player while Barker's books make room and actually expects the reader to pause and let each scenery or dialogue "sink in" and take possession of that inner experience of scenery that I refer to above.
The transition to movie worked with Hell Raiser because they were story-tellings. The movies were marvelous on their own terms yet they were not the real thing, not "really" Clive Barker but portrayals and indications of what you might find if you read the author's books and short stories.
This is just my personal opinion, of course, but I think in the video game example reviewed here it is quite apparent that I'm not completely wrong. That being said, I also realize that a lot of graphical technique and skill has come under way since this game was made, and who knows, maybe something more representative of a real Clive Barker story is possible in the future.
Just don't forget that Clive Barker is all about physical up-close biology in deepest detail along with smell and sound that comes with it. I have to wonder if it will ever be possible to translate that into a video game.
I remembered playing this game back in 2009 and loving it
I loved this game. Bought it many times and was blown away playing this. Wish it was on xbox one I'd buy again.
I remember playing Jericho when I was 7 and replaying it again gave me nostalgia
I once played through it, I would've never ever remembered it without seeing this.
I love the Hellraiser reference btw :) “they opened it, we came”
I found this game awesome, the combat was so much fun, I'd switch abilities, and yeah I'd get my ass handed to me, but when I was in the zone I was owning! I would give this game a 7/10, it was quite short but it packed a punch.
I had so many good memories with this game, played the shit out of it in every dificulty with a friend.

HOLY SHIT
Jim sterling's voice acting career has really taken off!
Download ammo is what you get when you have a nerdy witch, think of them as premade scrolls only in digital format.
Also I didn't find the characters underwhelming, I found them to be fairly powerful and shotguns were integrated into other's weapons.
But when facing hordes of the undead... Would you really take anything else than a machine gun? You know, the type of weapon that can just keep spraying death against things that do not seem to want to die?
Also how the hell is the sniper under powered? If you actually guide it properly you can kill several enemies with one shot, just don't shoot the immortal undead in their chests.
I wonder how hard it would be to make/find a combat rebalance mod for this game, since that seems to be the big issue. With a little tweaking -- and, perhaps, doubled health bars -- the game could probably be something more fondly remembered.
I was SUPER pumped for this game before it came out, but as soon as I saw reviews I put off buying it until I found it cheap -- like, three dollars cheap. I was playing on easy, and even at that level the bullet sponge nature of the enemies was just aggravating in the extreme, and I made it maybe an hour and a half into the game before giving up.
Idk if you are still searching, but i found 2 mods that do what you say in nexusmods.
I didnt try them tho
@@JGabriel872 Blast from the past response!
I probably should re-play Jericho some time. I might look into those when I do :)
What's interesting is they're not very spongy if you target their weakspots. They go down surprisingly fast.
I played this game a long time ago. I can't remember much about it but I do remember enjoying it.
long time doom fan, this game was really fun bought it on steam years ago b/c games like l4d, deadspace, re4, doom. wasn't dissappointed and it is still one of my favorite action horror games. I highly recommend a play through.
I don’t see anything wrong with the game…… it was one of the best games I have ever played
This game looks really interesting. It doesn't look that bad, and I think it's worth playing.
The underpowered nature of the weapons makes sense once you realize there's a cheat code to do decent damage, and that cheat codes were a paid service.
Most of Jericho's faults, like characters being made of wet papers, have a corresponding cheat code too.
If you find a save with codes unlocked, revisit the game. It's a different beast then.
This is actually a game I really enjoyed when it came out, I remember really liking the art style and the gameplay.
Can't wait to see you review Riddick.
We love you Boogie! Great video!
I remember renting this and being super blown away by the graphics
All the characters in this game looks awesome.
Always used to see this game on sale and never picked it up .. and this was before I started to look up reviews
still a big favorite.
Loved the story , enjoyed this so much back in the day ...
What an awesome concept for a game! Might have to pick this one up.
I wish this could get remake. The game was so good
Agreed with the review, if you're an "occult" just play it through on the lowest possible difficulty so you don't have to deal with the shody gameplay as much. Theme wise there's alot here, each of the squadmembers's powers are based on some ocult aspect. The sniper can aim bullets because she's telekinetic, the hackers litterarly hacks reality for short periods of time (something to do with chaos theory and quamtum physics , something like that), the juggernaut has an aztec fire spirit possesing his arm (thats why he has that runed obelisk on his left arm, he opens it and the spirit goes nuts, but let it out to long and it starts burning you), the katana wielding chick is a witch / blood mage etc etc.
+ggmanlives I love all of of your reviews I've seen every one of them I only have one problem I want more of them faster your doing great I've put about 15 people into your channel your voice is perfect for this
This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the whole game, great potential with a story that could of worked really well considering the writer that wasn't fully realised. There were rumours Barker had intended to make more then one game and I'd hoped he would get the chance, largely to have it improved simply for the sake of his name being attached.
I feel like this is a textbook example of how important writing is in videogames. Even though it may be lackluster in its gameplay, the story still makes it worth playing. Usually, gameplay is the only thing that matters in a game. I mean, a game with a bad story that has good gameplay mechanics is still fun to play, isn't it? But if the writing and story are really good, even the opposite can be true.
I think a revisit for this game is required
I really liked this game, i played it on the hard difficulty, and i found it kind of challenging. Lots of people say that the classes should have been more powerful, but as for me - they are balanced, and the fact that you can't go around and just shoot the crap out of everyone adds to the realism in this fantasy game.
Gggmanlives has such sights to show us.
Remake of this would be great. Steer more towards a left for dead style game, raise number of enemies on screen significantly, lower ttk and make characters more distinguishable and it could have potential.
Until now waiting for Jericho 2 exist 😅
When i first played the game, age 8, it was something i adored so much simply because i felt a demonic halo vibe and some actually scary moments. Whenever i wanted a more harder game i played this and some parts of the game were just abusive and i loved it for that, the final boss fight was an utter pisstake tho simply because there's 2 dps characters left and 2 support and well support are basically useless and the AI mostly just targeted the player so your dps character were down pretty quickly. i loved the Gothic style the game had for the main characters and the actual twisted and more stylish monsters made it feel horror styled.
Maybe after about 4 years since the last time i played it i'll feel differently but i'd still love the nostalgia it brought me. Anyone else watch the intro cinematic before the menu and think that was how the game was gonna start with Abigail black (sniper) kicking the bucket?
One of the best games of that period... There is no game with better story than this...
If ever a game needed a sequel. This is a team based shooter at its finest.
Moody as hell . . .
I completely agree with everything you said, but I love this game. It's just a guilty pleasure of mine, I know it's really not that good, but I just really enjoy it. Sick review!
