Despard Gallery is proud to present the latest video in our Artist Interview Series featuring contemporary Tasmanian painter Zoe Grey. With her third solo exhibition with Despard Gallery, Falling Into Place, Grey celebrates her strong connection held with her hometown of Marrawah, as well as the profound influence of a recent arts residency to Finland. Listen to Grey reflect on the impact of introducing a new place of significance from which the new body of work evolved, as well as discuss the role of painting to recall the sensations, ambience and textures that define the meaning of place.
Falling Into Place reveals how painting is an evolving visual language for Grey, allowing her to push the work and ideas in new directions. Through bold brushstrokes, layers of paint and dynamic abstracted compositions, each work carries the unique marks that defines Grey’s intuitive approach. By taking on the challenge to creatively respond to both landscapes, Grey shows us that place it is not necessarily defined by location, but in how connections are made through experiences of significance.

I find this cerebral gymnastics about the creation of art, or her so called art redundant. It would be interesting if the art was actually creative on some level… I do enjoy abstract art, and own many pieces. But to be honest some of this stuff being produced is not up to a truly artistic standard that was set buy the artist who created the movement!!!

So… got any book recommendations to learn more about abstract artists? Or videos here on TH-cam? Which abstract artists do you find interesting?
