      Thanks, Musgo. My ferns are impressive in the spring and summer months. It's like they are on steroids. They thrive so well that the ferns overwhelmed my moss garden again. At this point, we've started to have some freezing temps and now ferns are crappy looking. Time to remove the dead fronds. Happy to report ALL mosses are looking mighty fine still! --Mossin' Annie

      @@MossinAnnieMountainMoss Yeah here autumn is in full swing and winter is almost the same but a bit colder, we have a temperate climate with dry winters, summer is really humid that's when mosses thrive, now mosses will go dormant, but I will keep mine moist and alive.

    • @MossinAnnieMountainMoss
      @MossinAnnieMountainMoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lyrooo326 Where do you live? I'm curious about the visible indications that your mosses are going "dormant." I'm in the mountains of western North Carolina, US. We do have snow and freezing temperatures in winter months. Yet, even if we get over 12" of snow, it tends to melt within a couple of weeks. However, in the winter, my mosses DO NOT go dormant. They continue to look FANTASTIC with brilliant intense green tones!! Since sporophytes can be present when the snow melts, it's obvious that they have had SEX under their snow blanket... so reproduction continues in the colder months as well. Just wondering why there is a difference in the growth patterns between our different locations. -- Mossin' Annie

    • @MossinAnnieMountainMoss
      @MossinAnnieMountainMoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Mica... So glad that you are inspired by my videos to include mosses in your garden. Mosses are immune to negative effects of cold weather. So... you can gather mosses ALL year long! I do encourage you to find places where mosses are in peril of destruction --- parking lots, roofs, commercial land for sale, etc. If you want to forage, please don't steal from our protected forests and parks. Get permission from private property owners. Enjoy mossin'... -- Mossin' Annie

    • @MossinAnnieMountainMoss
      @MossinAnnieMountainMoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mica, I'm not sure that I understand your question but I think the answer is YES. Fragments of moss colonies (FRAGS) can be distributed as a planting method. Water and WALK on FRAGS. --Mossin' Annie

    • @NatalieGamerz
      @NatalieGamerz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you just scrap the moss off? What do you use? Let’s say it’s on a curb in a parking lot, how would you take it off? How long do I have to transplant the moss to it’s new home?
      I asked for your book for Xmas from my husband. I look forward to it.

      @@NatalieGamerz I do hope that you (and your husband) will support my mossy endeavors and my willingness to offer free advice here on TH-cam by purchasing my book directly through my Web site: www.mountainmoss.com. I will personally inscribe it to you and autograph your book. It's disappointing to me when people choose to support the BIG "A" Internet book supplier instead of supporting individual authors like me. The publisher and the BIG BOX distributor (or the local bookstore) get almost all of the $$$. I will get only 94 cents as a royalty (in April 2020). It's your choice whether you appreciate my expertise or want to support the BIG boys. But, I can guarantee that THEY can't answer any of your questions. Most people don't realize what a cruddy deal that I got from the publisher. I wanted you to be aware of this situation so that you can make an informed decision to consciously make your choice. I hope to receive your order today. I will greatly appreciate your vote of confidence and support.
      As for advice on how to retrieve mosses from urban locations, I gently pull mosses with my bare hands. Sometimes, I use a sturdy BBQ spatula to scrape mosses from flat surfaces. It's okay to wait a few days if you stage them in an appropriate place outdoors where the moss is exposed to humidity and natural rainfall. Of course, you can water/mist the moss to keep them in good shape before planting -- not soggy, just slightly damp. --Mossin' Annie

    So happy to have found your videos, I find there is limited real info about moss lawns on the net. I have with a lot of difficulty and time growing a moss lawn in the UK. It's mostly grown in and doing well but I do have weeds and grass coming through and I wondered if there was a way I could treat it other than just just pulling them out? I want to pull them out before winter sets in as I think once the moss is more established it will have less of this problem but thought giving it some sort of treatment before winter could help boost it/kill weeds?? I also have liverworts growing in the moss which I don't like as they grow a lot faster than the moss. Any idea for this too? Thank you !

    I like your videos Mossin' Annie. Is there any species that can stay in the sun most of the day?

    • @MossinAnnieMountainMoss
      @MossinAnnieMountainMoss  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Roy, Thanks for your kind comment. I'm glad that you like my videos. YES, there are direct sun lovers such as Bryum argenteum, Ceratodon purpureus and Ditrichum affine. Yet, there are other versatile species that can tolerate a fair amount of sun and can live in shade as well -- Atrichum angustatum, Climacium americanum, Entodon seductrix, Hedwigia ciliata, Hypnum curvifolium, Leucobryum glaucum, and Polytrichum commune. Please check out species available through my online Moss Shop which are identified by sun tolerance. Please realize that even sun-tolerant mosses will benefit from supplemental watering. --Mossin' Annie www.mountainmoss.com/collections/all

    • @MossinAnnieMountainMoss

      Hey Tiana1 -- YES ma'am. If the moss is already growing a sunny area, then it's a good possibility that it will thrive in between the flagstones. You might still need to provide supplemental watering. Mosses add incredible appeal to hardscapes. --Mossin' Annie
