This was my first "real" job. It was the summer of 1991 and I was 16. It was such a cool place to work. Seeing this video breaks my heart....the grounds were beautiful and the inside (where I worked, behind the counter) was really nice. This place was always busy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. I remember when the waterslide was built and I worked there when they had the bungee jump. Bob Probert stopped by I think in the summer of '92 and he signed the back of my work shirt...think I still have it somewhere. The owners took a group picture of all of us that worked that day with him. He went and rode the go-karts. I worked in the summer of '92 and '93 when I was home from college in the summer. Great memories. Thank you so much for this video. Brings back some good memories and some tears to see it this way now.
I am certain our paths crossed many a summer afternoon there at the park. You know what's funny I met Bob Probert the same summer because someone in our church brought him to a service and he signed autographs for all of us teenagers. I haven't thought about that in years. And yeah bungee jumping was definitely something I liked to watch when they had it there. I really regret not doing it myself then. Thank you so much for your memories and for watching!
Wow, I lived in Flint a good portion of my life and never knew about this place, I really wish I had known I would have made a lot of badass memories here like you guys. Makes me sad/nostalgic for an experience I know I’ll never have! Flint is a super interesting place. Find myself back there in my life all the time, I move away, and end up moving back- don’t know why haha.
@@woaken I haven't lived there in years but I definitely come back and visit every so often and it always feels like home so I totally get the appeal of moving back and I would definitely never rule it out in my own life, maybe someday!
I'm from Flint and grew up in Clio and Swartz creek in the 90s/early 2000's. Never went to Pirates Park. Still watching this, though, for some reason! Thanks for the upload. I moved to Germany 5 years ago and every Winter I get this weird longing for Michigan and end up looking for the most random Michigan videos on YT.
I've got a lot of great memories of Pirates Park. I was born in 1991 so I guess we kinda grew up together. Mom and I used to go to the batting cages a lot there. I'll never forget going down the water slide and feeling like I almost went over the edge of it. No clue how close I really was but it felt like a life/death situation LOL. Thanks for going in and showing it now. I still drive by sometimes but it doesn't look as bad from the front as it really is back in there.
They have investors in late 2019 and felt the re-open the park but the pandemic end when is it all over it probably will be reopen long as those same as oysters are still there
I spent many hours selling tickets in tbe booth during my college years, and then working the counter, scopping ice cream was the worst part of the job. I remember when the water slide was built. So many memories. Hitting in the batting cages after the park closed, late night staff fishing parties and hanging out with our pirates park crew outside of work. Years later I met someone after a few years of being friends, one day he exclaimed "oh my God, you were to cranky ticket girl at pirates park"
I went all the time as well. How were you able to get in? I’d love to walk through as you did to remember and possibly re live some of the magical time there!! So Fun!!!!
i want that SURGE poster!!! miss that drink so much. loved Pirates Park and it's a shame it's been allowed to rot. there are hardly any 'third' places anymore. just work/school and go home. sad.
My mom owned a salon in front of it in the 2000s I remember always exploring back there occasionally getting ice cream it always creeped me out that it was behind the plaza
Ha I randomly heard a mention of this place the other day and thought interesting I gotta check out that old spot. And here you are soon after checking it out, very cool well done!
Thank you I really appreciate you saying that, it was really neat place to take a sunrise walk to be sure. I couldn't believe how much I still remembered once I was back there, it seemed like everywhere I looked I had a memory. Thanks again for watching!
The reason it closed is two of the 3 owners passed away. Bob Katz then Haad Morten. Haad..kept it going until his death, the the 3rd owner is out of Detroit and hands off. I tried to sell it for them but they passed away.
In the 60s it was a boat repair facility on the little lake owed by Doc Wise. Towards the end they had the July 4th fireworks. A worker dove off a cliff to avoid a ground false detonation of fireworks and was hurt on concrete and rebar
Pretty Sad to see the fun parks go - along with Drive-in Theaters. Pirates Park reminded me of Frontier Village in San Jose which is now the site of apartments. Kids need to get away from computer screens and phones and toboggan down snow-filled water slides. We live in a different world for sure!
i have to hello the old piyit pirate Park on Miller Road near 69.Old me!! meightboer hood .Be hind Woodland school . old days to recall this park for small fun .gordon ( carman high school 1975-77) ROCKS FLINTSTONE!!!👀🎼🎶👣👀👀
It looks like you used a drone for some of these shots. Wish you used the drone for waterslide, would have been great! Thanks for the video though, really takes me back as well.
Trust me I wanted to use my drone there at Pirates Park but because it's within a mile of Bishop airport's approach patterns the drone was completely useless and wouldn't even let me launch it. Otherwise I would have loved to see the water slide from above.
@@SetsStreetsEats that's part of the reason I dislike dji. I have the Evo 1 and has no messages or anything to stop me from launching it, especially not going up that high. It did look like there was a couple Drone shots in your video very low, but maybe I'm imagining it. Good stuff though. I remember the driving range and I had a hell of a hook or slice because the ball would sail up over the netting surrounding the go carts and bounce around inside the track. I almost hit a couple drivers, so figured I better stop hitting the golf balls.
@@DougEfresh. that's pretty funny. I forgot about the driving range, by the time I got into golf pirates park had already closed down. That's a good tip on that EVO drone I will definitely be looking at those.
Huh, as usual google/youtube is funny randomly recommending me this after moving back to Michigan (about 30 miles north of flint where I grew up) after 22 years lol I like was mentioned here in the 80s/early 90s a playland kid,I think at the time this Pirate's Park opened I lived in Owosso though, moved back to Burton in idk 93 maybe but I can't say I remember or went to this place, granted I was a very loner type with few friends and definitely no dating much in the early 90s lol Seeing the old arcade cabinets though and like the little boats still on the pond was fascinating, i'll have to ask my friend from highschool (who was way more extroverted then I was) or my parents about this place.
It was such a cool place. I can remember when they started doing bungee jumping. My uncle worked there and he was one of the first people to do it. He was on the front page of the Flint Journal half in the water. Back in the good old days. I hope someone reopens it. Thanks for posting this. Takes me back
Used to take whoever I was dating at the time to the dances there! Then, after a long night of being really young (lol) we would wake up, go to the pancake House and eat and I'd take her back there to do the batting cage and whatever else and then head to Playland (I think it's called) to go play put put golf! I had money because I worked and a Camaro since 16 so my 17, 18, 19 year old days (before the military) were awesome!!

Thanks for sharing! How sad the condition it is in. 😢 I have MANY great memories (and photos) of being there. It was an awesome place back in the day!
Same, thanks for watching!
Remember going there a lot as a young kid. I was born in 1995. Even I remember going there in the very early 2000s. Was my favorite spot.
Very fun place, those Saturday night parties were all I thought about !
Same! I knew I wasn't the only one that still remembered Pirates Park, Loved this place :)

WOW....Memories right here. Thanks for sharing.
Wow so sad to see it like this now a day's. I loved going there as a kid and doing the putt putt and water slide
This took me back! I would've been down to try out the bobsledding in the winter!
It was definitely a blast!
Very cool! Too bad investors let it close; kids still love amusement parks and Pirate's Park looked like a good time. Great tour for the imagination!
Yeah I still love going to them from time to time and they are still a lot of fun. Thanks for watching it!

When this opened it was easier to get to just catch the Genesee Valley Bus the place was soooo much fun

By the way, there are huge fish in there from all the years of feeding.
Shhhhh
Yes worked on my baseball batting out there , great fun times there .

Crazy To See This Property In This Shape!
still remember had a hard time stopping the bumper boat lol lots of memories. did hear that someone is going to revise pirate park we shall see
Thank you for coming this
My pleasure!

Thank you so much for that information I had never heard any of that.
We had some good times there. Used to drive up from Clarkston area for some putt putt/go kart date nights
Sad stories i was a kid in Flint and it's always my home town
God, I loved this place!

Yeah, Bob sledding down water slides was definitely an experience you can't get on the internet lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it Frank!
Do they still have the pond in the back??
Yep, and it still has several of the bumper boats floating in it. I show it in the video!
My parents never did take us to pirates park, idk why lol it was usually huckleberry junction, chuck e cheese, or playland
I loved Playland on Dort hwy, they had the best go karts!

There has been talk of getting it back in working order
Someone bought the place a couple years ago, plans are to bring the place back to life.
The fact that I live around the corner from there-
The owner had a son that was our age. i wonder where he is at?

I say leveled it
It really is sad how greedy money men will decide to close something like this up and walk away like it never existed…
I’ll give you the whole story .. I own it

I heard, it's so sad.
Never went. No interest i guess.
