The silver on the underside could be a security as an eBay sale there are some people how try to swop parts and clam it doesn't work. Nice quick fix. Stay safe
¡Hola buenos días Dan! As one suggestion for the silver painted areas, under the loco. Some modellers use Infra-red LED units, positioned under the baseboard to control signals etc. The silvered areas would help to reflect the beams of infra-red back down to the detecting LED used in such units. You can use the holes in the base of the polystyrene to push the loco\tender out - sometimes easier than pulling.
