    I found the 3m joist tape to hold up better. It also sticks very well on wet surfaces.

    Brilliant tutorial, thank you. I'm new to this, and I'm learning so much from you. 2" G-tape it is. I wonder if I could use my Scotch tape dispenser & not buy a tape gun? Maybe I'll try it first. Anyway, thank you.

    I just finished demo on the rotted framing of my seven year old deck. Here at 7,000 feet in Colorado, it doesn't even matter if you use PT lumber: due to the freeze-thaw cycles all winter, joists that are not protected by tape will crack on top where the water accumulates. Then the water seeps in and the damage gets worse. Then bugs and microbes Then rot. The outer side of the rim was also unprotected, with non-composite fascia. I literally had orange fungus exploding out the side of the fascia in only a few years. And that was WITH keeping everything properly painted/primed.
    Redoing it all, this time with G-Tape. Gahhh... $250 up front would have saved me sooo much hassle and cost.

      I’m in the process on my 19 year old 12x60 PTYP in NC . Same issues you described . I’m doing it myself @ 69 years young.

    In Canada the brand is called Resisto. I find the stuff doesn't adhere very well to pressure-treated lumber, or if it's at all cold out. I always have to tack it on the sides with a stapler.

    Will treating your joists with a water seal affect the tapes ability to stick to the wood?

    I still prefer permanent gorilla all-weather tape -way cheaper and does the same thing.

      Ever use zip tape?

    • @WebbedPete
      @WebbedPete ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NOT the same. That's a butyl tape. And only comes in 1 7/8 width. Try covering a full height- fascia board with that, let alone doing a good job on multi-ply beams. :)
      And not that much cheaper. gtapesusa vs walmart: 9" gtape $78. 6 rolls of gorilla for the same width (1.5 each roll, a small overlap): $72.

    Dr.Deck, 1. I'm installing Timbertech Azek pvc facia, would you recommend GTape on the vertical surface of rim joist between joist and pvc facia board. Secondly, Timbertech recommends an adhesive glue in addition to screws every 12" for facia boards but that is on wood side not on a board with GTape. Any experience using adhesive between the Gtape and facia board, or is that over kill? Thanks in advance . Decking in Seattle area

    Can I use this product underneath the Trex Rain Escape system? I'm worried that their taped and caulked joints will fail.

    Hello…can you make a video of blocking made for metal railing posts where by the post mounts right through the deck top into the flat block-base?

    Hello
    Building a deck up here on Vancouver island so dealing with the same conditions as you guys in Washington
    Was wondering if I was to use epdm for waterproofing would It be worthwhile to use this tape as well and if so would the tape go on first?
    Thanks

    Can I put it on damp or wet 2x pressure treated? It works great .I only had time to do about 1/4 of my deck. It rained today and now the pt joist are wet? The price also isn’t bad about $20 per roll trex tape cost more. Thanks

    Not saying go full wyrmwood gaming (furniture company out of MA), but they do vlog style content to support their products and build community. Love the content you put out, but getting to know you and the crew a bit better might go along way to building a community. Again good content gets views, great characters get subs.

    Yup, just rebuilt a dock today with joists that were like ramen noodles. I looked for some similar water reflecting tape at a big box store (Lowes) and was surprised to learn they carried none on the shelf. I should've planned ahead.

      Some lowes/home depot have the butyl tape, a few brands, including trex brand, they're okay but you cant use it for pvc boards, must get the Gtape

    How do you feel about Zip tape over EPDM?

  • @dom66221
    @dom66221 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder how real your claim (and the manufacturer's) claim is regarding tape self-sealing around deck screws. If it doesn't seal and keep it sealed throughout the years, then water willl flow down the screws and get trapped under the tape -- making the situation worse. water will flow. let it drip away and let it evaporate. proper underdeck ventilation is key

    Is butyl joist tape ok to use if i plan to add redwood deck boards on top, not composite/pvc?

    • @First-Adhesive-Technologies
      @First-Adhesive-Technologies ปีที่แล้ว

      Butyl Tape Advantages:
      • High initial tack¬-has a more aggressive hold on contact than acrylic adhesives
      • Has a high level of adhesion because it bonds to a huge variety of surfaces
      • Self-seals screws when attaching deck boards on joist.
      • Less expensive than acrylic adhesive
      • Impermeable to air
      • Waterproof so it works well in situations where water is a factor

    Thanks for the videos. I put a coat of F&P deck preserver over my joists for added protection but now thinking the Gtape would be a better option. You think the Gtape will stick to boards freshly preserved?
