You want to know what I think? Love, love, LOVE the fence and gate!!! The handles? Ugg! "Most bad ass handles," seriously?! What is it with men thinking that "bad ass" is best? Maybe for your man cave to scare off bad guys, but honestly a terrible choice for a stunning gate to one's back garden. Although they're only metal, who wants to reach out their hand towards two cobras poised to strike in order to open their gate? Not me! I find the handles very unwelcoming and subconsciously anxiety producing. After making such a stunning fence and gate, they totally detract. My vote: choose new handles that have a compatible vibe with your exquisite gate. Beautiful job there!
Good tools are so important. Make sure you get a quality 5-year-old. The ones you get from Harbor Freight aren’t always the greatest, so it’s definitely worth the investment to get a brand name. With proper maintenance, it should last for decades. Although be aware that operating costs for this tool increase dramatically after about 14 or 15 years as they tend to need a lot of fuel.
@@davearonow65 Did you watch the video? You sound like someone who laughs 3 times at a joke. Once when you hear it. Once when it’s explained to you. And once when you get it. Let me know if I need to explain the humour to you.
@JohnSmith-tc2gu I'm sure you've spent a lifetime trying to explain your "humor". Hint. I got it. You just aren't as funny or as witty as you fancy yourself being.
I'm a mere 2:34 into your vlog. 😉😄 However, I must say, your gorgeous little boy will always remember his precious (and useful!) childhood. ...particularly due to the fact that he was your very cute garden tool, assistant, and supervisor! 🤣🥰😂 💙💪👦🏃♂️ "Children need amazing Dads!" 💯
It's fantastic. Beautiful piece of art. Since I started watching your videos I look at everything around the house differently. Very motivational. Also, I love your serious sense of humor.
Build a gate that will make your neighbours jealous? Nah, I’d be jealous of all the tools you have….lol. The gate is beautiful and yes your neighbours will be jealous.
Having just landed a couple of garden gate jobs, I'm gathering tools and equipment. Thanks for a well produced, instructive video. I noticed your Home Depot bucket....got that, but my nearest H.D. is fresh out of "five-year-old post-hole digger/depth gauges". I'll check the rental yards.
Those handles are nice but the handle to the main entrance at MARSOC are made of kabar fighting knives and they are very cool. Love the gate. Made one a bit like it 15 years ago. It finally gave in this past winter. Yours looks a bit stronger
I stumbled upon this video by chance and was blown away. Loved the design, the fact your little guy was involved and helped you keep your tape measure pristine (LOL). Excelling filming, editing sound etc. Great information and well narrated through the process. You just needed a longer view of the finished product (I guess pausing the video works, but not for a 360 view or up and down) you also need to tell us where you got the AWESOME Cobra handles and a link to your biscuit joiner.. Awesome video, all around, sir.
How did gluing up the slats hold this past year? I built something similar but left mine unglued and there was quite a bit of movement this summer. I’m glad I didn’t glue cuz I figured it wld hv cracked had I not left it for movement. Did yours stay intact? Very curios how boards reacted compare to no glue. Thx. Nicely done
Looks great, but it's really difficult to see the finished project at the end because you have all the suggested videos covering it up. On an up note, you did finally give me a great reason to have a kid!!
Awesome! I just tri8pped over your channel and now I'm a subscriber. Good tips on using templates and kids. Now I'm going to have to binge your videos.
I run a foundation repair company. I have been looking for ways to improve efficiency while digging holes. I know this will work...I need to hire five-year-olds!!! Thank you
You need a longer showcase of the finished design. TH-cam put up other video suggestions on top of the final look. What I did see it looks great. That would be a cool front door with glass
Really great video - cool design, funny, and clear guidance. I have never seen somebody consistently use a jigsaw upside down like you do - is there a reason? Thanks!
The gate looks great. Just one thing to note. If you are gonna use your son as a measure, be sure to calibrate regularly, as the measurements have a habit of growing !!.
Nice work 👍 Just a recommendation on your router bits. You need to cut in increments, as at present, you're trying to cut the full depth in one pass. You can hear that router bit screaming for its life 😂 But yeah, good work otherwise 👍
1. 3:17 Even if your posts are pressure treated and you think you'll be fine, I'd still try and slap some extra water protection on the in-ground portions. It's not fun to have to test your posts every year and replace the rotted ones 2. Did you also build the fence? It's quite magnificent 3. I see the gate is a dividing line for the fence in terms of brown vs. gray color tones. Is that from different sun exposure/sealer? Lol, grandad crashed through the old one 😁
It would be nice if you allow more time at the end to show the finished gate. Maybe include different angles or you opening it and walking through. I paused the video at the end but half of the gate was blocked by your video and channel thumbnails.
Using common woodworkers glue for a product that will be on the exterior is bad form. You would have been much better off using Titebond III, a resin or and adhesive like PL Premium.
It's impossible to watch the final result shots with all these subscribe and large other video thumbnails floating around on the screen. Isn't there a better way to move them somewhere else on the timeline, instead of the money shot??
Great video! I can’t seem to find the plans for the Top arch or any of the fence on your website though, kind of bummed me out as I want to replicate this exact gate!
Between the variations in the colors of the t & g, the fact that the arch is segmented, and the trim on the adjacent building being white, I'd have painted it too. I'm my opinion, it would look too busy with a natural finish. The white looks great!
Looks great. But "easier than you think"? I don't think so. You're using thousands of dollars in tools here in what looks like a full dedicated wood workshop. 😂
Spoken like a true simpleton. Every tool has its place. I remember when cave men scoffed at the newcomers that insisted on using steel tools instead of wood and stones. You would have been right there mocking the automobile, saying it could never replace the horse and buggy. The only "woodworker" not to be taken seriously is the blind simpleton that fails to see the value in a tool or technique even after someone has masterfully demonstrated its worthiness.
execution is flawless but not a fan of the design or the paint . it contrasts with the existing fence and has a doll house look providing zero psychological deterrence to the side and rear of the house . it just looks complelety out of place . sorry
I would love to know what you all think?
Great job on the template 👌🏻
Yeah, you ruined it by painting it. Should have used good but ugly wood. Otherwise, awesome project and carpentry
I think I am VERY envious😁 this best video for me showing how to make arches. Thanks

You should finish the video before you start letting the popups cover the screen. Otherwise, great job.

Stunning Project. Just Wow
It's absolutely beautiful!
Ok ,I'm off to a good start ,I have a 5 year old! 😂😂😂
Beautiful work. Yeah, the right tools make a difference, but the thought and planning shows in a wonderful end result. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks a ton!
The panel boards seem to be snug fit. Being glued in, are you not worried about seasonal movement?
Nice job with a father & son joint venture!! Greetings from the Netherlands.

I love it man. I love ur teaching ur boy how to work. I’m gonna recommend one thing, buy a post hole shovel. So much faster for post construction.
Beautiful design and workmanship. Can you let us know where you found those handles?? Awesome....
Thank you, I bought them off of Etsy, just search brass snake handle
Beautiful end result!. You need to add more time at the end of the video for the reveal - it gets blocked by ads.
I’ll have a go at this as soon as I have fully fitted workshop with industrial machining equipment that’s bigger than my house.
That’s great. I’m happy for you.

This is great! Good use of the mini human 1000.
Beautiful build. I could tell right out of the gate I was going to enjoy this video with your son playing along for the Dad Humor.
Always great work and great content. I appreciate your videos brother
A beautiful gate to last 150 yrs plus . Would not a solid stain be a better choice for a 150+ yr lasting gate, yup those handles are bad ass.
Why nut plug the screw holes with bungs? Cut them off, then sand them down?
The link for the templates doesn't take you to the termplates

Your gate is very nice, but your little boy stole the show. :)
If i could build a gate like that i would quit my day job.

It’s burdensome being at the top and something needs to motivate me.

Yeah, beautiful wood and you go and paint it? You would have been better off making this gate out of plywood! What a shame! Shame on you, Rad Dad!
Nice job but to say your Neighbours will be Jealous is garbage. and full of arrogance.
Well I am the best around
OMG! obviously it's said tongue in cheek. Rad Dad has an awesome sense of humour as well as being an amazing carpenter.
You could have fixed that existing gate so easily and it matched the existing fence. Epic fail you did. Why?
"Super easy" with several thousand dollars worth of equipment
