The ZOLEO Satellite Communicator is our Top Pick for backcountry communication and emergency SOS. Compared to the competition, the ZOLEO has the best combination of value, features, and ease of use. As such we feel it is by a fair margin the best Satellite Communicator for most people. And of course it costs less than competition - actually 1/2 the price of its closest competitor.

Alan. I appreciate that you revisted the Zoleo and did such a comprehensive review. I’ve recently purchased one and look forward to the new features which really seem to differentiate it from the others. Your experience gives your reviews another level of credibility versus many others out there. Keep them coming! 😎

Hi Alan 🙂 I'm glad you're back to making content again as I enjoy listening to your advice. When you go hiking in a group (or even just as a couple), do you recommend everyone to have this Zoleo on their person or do you just have 1 for the entire group?

This looks very interesting. I'll have a check on this for use in EU.

Thanks for that review. I've been using a Somewear for the last two years and have been happy with it. Unfortunately, it appears the battery is starting to fail. So I have been looking for a new device and was vacillating between the inReach Mini 2 and the Zoleo. At this point I think it will be the Zoleo.

150$ on sale, it's a great device for everything it does . GREAT SAFETY on the trail . I use Far out and a map for navigation.

We have a lot of backwoods here in SW Virginia with no cell service, so ZOLEO helps me keep in touch with my wife. You do have to have a “relatively” open view of the sky which is sometimes difficult around here. This is an issue with all sat com devices I think. I was hoping new releases would help a bit, but I’ve noticed no difference. This just adds an extra level of planning to communication.

Yes, the ZOLEO uses the Iridium network which is the best. Still in deep woods it's going to be a bit more of a challenge. BUT you always have the status of whether and when messages went out. That's a big help!

Thank you Alan that was a good video review we appreciate it, and we were just looking at getting one of these units. Can you tell me how much the monthly plan costs to have the unit active?

$35 (bang for buck) or the $50 plan are our choices. Add $6 if you want tracking. www.zoleo.com/en-us/plans/

How does the battery life compare to the inReach Mini? I really love the Mini but a dedicated phone number would be great when I take our scout troop out backpacking.

Good battery life for ZOLEO | Approximately 200+ hours with a message check every 12 minutes. Garmin is "up to 4 days in moderate tree cover for standard activity recording and 10-minute tracking mode. and up to 10 days with full sky view." BUT in reality (in the filed) there are so many variables and differences between how the two units operate that it would be difficult to come up with comparable/conclusive comparison numbers.

Ok… first thanks for making the video and sharing the information in Zoleo. I enjoyed the updated info (more recent than some of the other Zoleo video reviews).
However, just some feedback as a regular viewer of various channels. Please look at the camera. I know you were relying on notes or reading from your laptop but it is pretty distracting not looking at the camera. Again, not trying to be a jerk… just trying to make the channel a bit better.
Oh… and fix the brim of the hat. 😉😁
