    I live in South West Wales and i have a similar system to yours 5.22 kw of solar panels with a 5.0kw hybrid Givenergy inverter and 9.5kw Givenergy battery, in June I generated 587kwh and i exported 606kwh which was a combination of excess solar and discharging my battery in the evening between 2130 and 2330 just before the IO Go tariff of 7p starts so i fill my car and battery at 7p. Really pleased with the income i am receiving from Octopus from the export of solar and battery,

      Excellent and thanks for sharing. Good to compare to a system which is almost identical.
      How are you finding the experience / process of discharging the batteries at peak times?

      @@SpectrumGeeks Initially i was not deliberately discharging in the evening partly because over the winter period I didn’t have the solar generating enough to keep the battery topped up. However after i joined the DFS scheme i thought about using the excess and i think the regular charge discharge of the battery will do more good than harm. I think that by using my battery to its full capability i am being greener and by exporting at every opportunity i am helping to balance the grid in a green way. Ensuring my car and battery are charging overnight helps the grid and the operators by getting something for the overnight excess that otherwise would probably go to waste or result in more energy being required to fire up generation. The more solar/battery systems are used by the general population the more the country will benefit and hopefully cheaper energy costs for everyone.

    I also have a Givenergy battery and Octopus Intelligent Go rate. I do fill up the battery at 7.5p and discharge to grid at 15p. Yes you are benefitting the grid ad well as yourself. You are helping to balance the grid by contributing to refuce the use of gas during the day and then consuming excess renewable electricity st night. There are heavy penalties levied when curtailment of renewable energy generation is nevessary, which is more likely to ocurr at night. In my area we also have frequent Octopus Powerup sessions when all electricity is free, and thst is also to help reduce curtailment penslties, mostly during high wind conditions.

      Thanks for watching and sharing your approach Peter, and good point on the levies. Guess I need to level set my thinking on this approach :)

    Thanks for the update, I am down 100kw compared to last June in Kent

      Wow thats a significant number.

    Here in the Southwest, our 3.76kWp system produced 596 kWhr for June, which I don't think is unreasonable considering it's over 10 years old now.

      Cheers for sharing John, I think thats fantastic generation for the size and age of the array. All shows how much sunnier it was in the southwest :D

    I charge overnight and sell back more in the day, simply because grid is much lower in CO2 overnight. So there’s net benefit if I buy at 50g/kwh and sell and 100g/kwh. Don’t discharge batteries to sell back yet however.

      Cheers for sharing. I think it makes alot of sense to utilise the off peak for charging, etc (I charge the cars and heat hot water off peak), and then export the "excess", as that seems a natural set of events, vs playing the system abit with off peak charge and peak discharge.
      However, like another commenter, it must be in the grids benefit or it wouldn't be a thing.

    Hi Dale here in mid wales not to far from you 1447 kw for June about 50 kw less than 2023 👍👍👍 well just checked and about 75 miles didn’t think it was that far

      Thanks Glyn, whats your array size. I assume something like 12kW from that generation?

    • @glyn1782
      @glyn1782 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes you are right 12 kw 2012 4kw then added 4kw in 2019 then added another 4kw in 2022

    Surely your helping the grid or they wouldn’t give you the charge/discharge rates. Make hay I say, battery’s should be good for it and warranted for the cycles too.

      Yeah I guess you are correct, its not done for charity is it :) I will see how things pan out.
