That’s good! Glad to hear! That was often my frustration when reading Road & Track / car and driver magazines as a kid was that they would test the highest mode but barely mention anything about the lower ones!
Hey man, great reivew! It is nice to hear about those dislikes. Many car channels only focus on the awesomeness of every car they review. Wife and I bought a 2020 Kona SEL Plus AWD on Friday and love it. Decided not to go turbo because we are not big fans of leather seats. Must say, for our in town driving where speeds top out at 45MPH, the 2.0 is fine but a little more pep would be appreciated. The sport drive mode also changes the engine performance and it seems to keep the car in the 2K-3K RPM sweet spot. Overall, we have been very pleased with it.
Thank you for your comment. It’s also nice to hear people like my style of reviews. Yes, I started out focus on the good points of the car only but like you said people want to hear the good, the bad and the ugly. I try my best to give an unbiased perspective and not sugar coat anything. Enjoy your new car! Tons of features in that car!
I really appreciate all of the awesome reviews on this car. I’m looking to purchase this specific car and I really needed to know all of the things you discussed.
Great review! Just bought a Kona SE AWD; love it so far, but will probably upgrade to the turbo in a few years, as acceleration isn’t quite up to par when dealing with aggressive rush hour traffic. Still, it’s very affordable, attractive, and handles well overall, especially for a base model. Hyundai warranties are outstanding and that’s what really sold me on the Kona over the competitors.
@@lemonlimeluv2 so far so good! I had to drive a lot this past year and put a frightening 26k miles on the car, but I’ve had no issues whatsoever. The AWD was great this past winter. My previous car had trouble getting out of our long driveway in snow, but the Kona powered through every time. No regrets. Good luck with yours!
I test drove one yesterday payments too high so I had to leave 😔 They called me back this morning with an amazing deal!! That thing was so damn fun to drive. I picked my orange one up tomorrow.
glad to see an se model review, but would like to see some off road capabilities. I'm not looking at buying an AWD subcompact suv for 0-100 performance more the all day capabilities like snow and possibly mud. Don't get me wrong I don't think this will be an off road beast by any means just want to get some info on what I might expect the capabilities to be. All in all a decent vid just do suggest some more testing in the other areas that this might be used for. I know the 1.6l has the dual clutch transmission and has overheating issues with off road, would like to see how the standard automatic transmission will do with the 2.0l off road
Thank you for the constructive feedback. You make a valid point. I’ll definitely take what the buyer would like into consideration when doing my future reviews. Have a good day!
I recently bought a kona and I live in the rust belt with lake affect snow, my area is really good for snow at feet of a time so one of the things we look at around here is traction lol, already bought a whole set of winter tires and rims and I only have 1100 miles on the car
i have had a 2019 since 2019. i debated the turbo model, but wanted to see how the essiential was first, since it comes with alot of options for a base model. the acceleration isnt great, but to give perspective that kona would leave my 2008 potiac g6 standing still. my g6 had 220 hp and 200 torque. so for 147 horse it is tuned good enough to have fun still. just gotta know how to use it and shifttronic
Agreed. Most modern 4 cylinders are so powerful these days they can outrun the V6 models from years ago. Hence why V6 and V8 engines options are going to be a dying breed in the next 10 years.
Good to see a review that's not the ultimate model. Thanks!

Just got one & we love it so far!!!
Congratulations! What model did you end up going with?
Thanks I’m looking at this as an option. I appreciate your time!
Kymberly Davis Good luck with your search!

It’s a great commuter car but I can understand the need for wanting the turbo! Congratulations and good luck!
Hi I’m getting this car on Thursday how’s it holding up for you?

If you have AWD and winter tires, you’re already ahead of the game. Your only limitation will be ground clearance.
Great review man! Thanks
I approve of this video
Thank you!
Amazing video my Nana got one she upgraded from her 2018 accent
