I just started film school. I have so many stories to tell, but I’m absolutely lost when it comes to the cinematography part- I finally saved up for a camera, and your color grading and “movie” videos have been a big part of learning so far. You’re a hidden gem dude.
Appreciate that! Good luck with film school, seems like a great place to learn. Especially if you combine it with all the stuff that's out there on TH-cam these days. Try make some stuff while focussing on your cinematography and I'm sure you'll improve!

you`re not a mastermind - videos on the topic of creating YT content just generally perform really well because they`re so high in demand. Try a new channel with literally any other topic and you won`t get this kind of success so fast. I get very annoyed when TH-camrs promote how fast & easy it is to grow a channel when in fact that only applies to a handful of niches.
No, this isn't. Because not all niches are the same. What he is doing works extremely well in this niche, and the op is correct, TH-camr how to content is extremely popular on TH-cam. If I was in his same niche, or a similar help field, this would work. But I run a gaming channel and cannot apply these principals to it. Gaming channels are very saturated and divided among games, whereas a single niche like this will always be a winner, especially on this topic. However, I don't want this niche, I want to succeed at what I enjoy.
It's so refreshing to see content creators who are looking to find the key to success without loosing their passion and creativity - sometimes YT feels overwhelmingly generic so I'm glad that you're finding your way through the mess. I learned a lot, thank you for the video!
Something I’ve found from making TH-cam videos. The amount of effort you put in usually directly correlates to how poorly the video will perform. People don’t really like the super polished movie-esque style on social platforms. I have multiple channels and edit for some large TH-camrs, and have over 60 million views on my work (that I know of, my content gets ripped sometimes). In my experience, the less effort into video quality and the more effort into making solely what the audience wants as quickly as possible, the better numbers you will see. I think it’s so sad, as whenever I make what I as a creative want to make, it costs more to make than I make back in ad revenue. I wish it wasn’t this way.
@@mikefromlighthousesmma1707 it’s not a hard rule, but it’s generally what I found in my experience, and what I found well editing for much larger TH-camrs. People are put off by super high-quality.
I kind of experience the same with my cooking channel. My videos with the worst lightning or sound are the most succesful ones. The video on which I spent 2 months of work isn't performing well at all. It's all very confusing. I don't know what the audience is really after sometimes. I still prefer my most recent uploads which I personally think are of much higher quality than my very first videos (I feel like I should really delete some of them), but the audience seems to disagree, which is just so confusing...

For measuring the "videos I'm proud of metric" I would suggest you consider measuring that _at the time of upload._ Because, as you experienced, you are still in the growth phase of your filmmaking learning curve and you improve so much each time; if you evaluate at the end of the year the improvements you built at the beginning of the year are undervalued. Those early gains are fully absorbed into your creative process by the end of the year. Evaluating your satisfaction at time of upload will encourage you to evaluate them more fairly (and also probably improve even more quickly). Thanks for sharing your journey on getting views and growth, good luck with your filmmaking!

That video was sitting in my tabs for over a week. I finally decided to watch it in it's entirety. It was extremely insightful and it gives perspective. It helps aspiring creators remember that time is in 99% of cases, an inevitable component of success. Even, for a TH-camr with a "leg up" because he's already created a successful channel and is potentially better versed into growing. Much like what you said, it also emphasizes the benefits of the overarching goals. Really, great video. Thanks!

Congratz on the consistency and effort! I also did started a brand new TH-cam channel in the LEGO stop motion animation niche about 6 months ago (the thing I truly enjoy doing after from my day-to-day job), and I see it must take a lot of time and effort to grow. I use my TH-cam experience coming from my old channels, I put a lot of work in the video production, and what is most important - I enjoy it a lot! I wish the numbers were higher, I wish more people in the LEGO niche could see those videos and have fun watching them, but that's not what I can control and it's not something we should mainly focus on. Love the transparency in this video and the lessons you learned (especially with swapping around thumbnails and titles.) Super helpful. Personally, I think you will do much better with continuing to put out decent thumbnails and titles and maybe just doing more Talking Heads on interesting subjects to save yourself a load of production time and effort coz sounds like you're already heading to burnout. People click more for 'content and concepts' rather than high production or great editing etc and you are making a rod for your own back with focusing so much on quality. You sound super informed on subject matter so I would say just dial into that aspect of the content more and forget the polish. I know your goal is to be a better filmmaker etc and grow your craft etc...but I think sometimes that can come at the expense of your target audience who might just want basic tips on stuff which you can do far easier by explaining and not necessarily always demonstrating or sequencing the subject. Personally, I think it's the pitfall of channels like yours who go waaaay too heavy on production and it hurts your overall output. This is clearly a channel which has garnered an audience of people starting out on TH-cam (hence your highest performing videos) so they don't need to be complex. Maybe nice 30 sec cinematic intro to stamp your authority etc but a good hook with some intrigue and just talking candidly to the viewer for the rest of the vid is probably enough. I would personally suggest making this a much simpler channel that informs and guides people starting out and give solid advice sprinkled with some very sparse and basic B-roll. If you go more organic, you'll save yourself a tonne of time and therefore can upload more and spend time on ideation and not just production. In my opinion I think you'll probably grow faster and have a more loyal core audience whilst still gathering new viewers with your banging thumbnails. Frequency trumps quality because audiences connect to regularity and familiarity. I think 6 weeks between videos is perhaps too long to build strong personal connection to an audience. If the focus is high viewership through creating interesting clickable subjects at the expense of gathering loyal viewers who click for you and your personal insights, I think that has potential for a dangerous trade off. You're not a faceless channel so you can afford to build loyalty with your viewers way more than others subject related channels. I would just go basic and even cheaply outsource the edit coz it won't hurt your retention if the subject and content is still good and provides value. Anyway that's just my thoughts. Wish the best for the channel either way. 😊
It's such a grind man. Well done on sticking it out.. there's always something very enticing about a fresh start. Whatever you do in future, you'll have all the skills and experience to take with you though!
Great work Bruno. This was the first video that I watched without skipping parts at all for a very long time. You have managed to put a lot of things in practice that I have talked about for a while. I think this video will show you ( I hope) that quality of a video isn’t directly linked to image and/or sound quality. If you look at Ryan Ng for example - he manages to produce high quality videos with very simple tools (and great editing & storytelling). Excited to see more of you in the future - I can learn a lot from your progress for my own channel.
Awesome, thanks for sharing. I've come to learn that the most important part for TH-cam is your concept, information, research, storytelling and structure/writing. Everything else is just your format and style.
This is really interesting. You are living the exact life i want to have. You arent a youtuber to be famous, you are breaking down the science of internet video creation.
Patience is key mannn! I was a little mad that you didn't give that "quality vs quantity" video a chance to do its thing like your secret channel. But I am happy that at the end you found out how time & patience plays a key role in success. A lot of my most viral videos took 3 months for it to touch its initial blow up. I say continue to improve each video but Mann GET THOSE IDEAS OUT! cheers for a new year!
Could you explain why the audio setup for this video makes it sound like you've crawled into my ear? It was a very noticeable difference coming from another video. Just curious :)
thank you so much. for some reason I thought that changing video titles and thumbnails in hindsight has no effect on views anymore. it was fascinating to see what it did to your tutorial video.
This what happens to me: I click this kinda video, watch it and at the final I permanently hear the same conclusion. The same: title and thumbnail, patience, do what you like, it takes time. Thank you guys! I already know. And I use this knowledge...
This is cool, 5:55 you spotted that TH-cam did not promote your video on one channel, but did on another. This means to me that many channels can upload until they are blue in the keyboard but their videos will not be seen. (In the case of my channel, my videos are lame and Neil at TH-cam has offered to pay moving expenses if I take my channel to Facebook)
i think its because on an established channel the algo thinks it has found your audience or conversely its still not sure and doesnt put much effort into finding it anymore, but on a new channel its actively hunting the audience for you etc so will have a fresh start kind of thing?
great and insightful video, congrats! if your still struggling with the 'i learnt AI' video thumbnail, I'd have a computer/laptop screen in the thumbnail, maybe with you sitting behind it looking confused or stressed. the video isn't about the reel footage you made (like the thumbnail currently shows) its about you and you attempts to learn how to make something and additionally should inspire others to try or not give up (aka be like you). its about the journey and not the destination and your thumbnail should represent that
This was a great watch! I actually watched the entire thing and it was nice to see you journey! Got yourself a new subscriber and I am here to follow your journey 😁
Fascinating stuff! Almost shocking how a great video performs like total garbage unless the title and thumbnail is great. I guess books figured this out decades ago when they starting focussing on interesting cover art and catchy titles. All the best for the future, subbed 🥳🙏
I still don’t understand the thumbnail thing. When I visit your channel that one video of how to make movies does not have a compelling thumbnail imo. Can you explain?
Inspirational. I am still working on getting my niche' approved by TH-cam. I am concentrating on Audio remastering of vintage concert footage which after initial testing seems to have a strong market. This has been met with some resistance due to copyrights. Not that I can't use it, but they are hesitant to monetize the channel. My intent was never to monetize those videos (leave it to copyright holders to receive the revenue), but to just provide popular Remastered footage as examples (before/after) for viewers to enjoy while also mixing in my own original content featuring "how to" and audio tech information. Working on the latter right now in order to have YT reconsider. Your content is very useful and helps to motivate me. Thank you!
I’m currently in the process of building out a new channel as well where I will also be focusing on making my shots look cinematic. I’m glad I found your channel and I will be checking in on every video you upload! Keep up the good work, fellow dutchie! ❤️🙌🏻
My TikTok blew up a bit talking about my job I got bored of it… i have so many other things i want to talk about. It didn’t get so much response on TikTok, so i started my TH-cam channel for that purpose.
Such a great video! I am so glad I came across it! I always wondered if it was possible (or a good idea) to change the title and thumbnail of a video once it has been uploaded. I guess that from what you are saying, TH-cam picks up on the changes right away. What you did not say anything about, however, is changing the description of the video and if that would make a difference too?
I always enjoy watching videos like this. it proves that anyone can do it with the right strategy and dedication. ive yet to make it in to the partnership program but the feeling after seeing a video you've created actually turn out decent is so rewarding.
You can do it. Just watched your latest video. Seems like your structure and script is on point. Perhaps do some research on your specific niche and try to find topics that people are interested in.
This video does a great job capturing the complex and competing factors in trying to build a successful channel. It also reflects the kind of experimental and creative side that any TH-camr has to engage in but rarely gets to share, especially when it doesn't work out. Great job putting it all together. Subscribed.
This video will change my life because I started another channel 7 months ago and I'm putting 100+ hours into every vid but not getting views, now I need to work and change titles and thumbnails. Every comment is always "Awesome edit" or "Underrated channel". Thanks for creating this one, now I know my flows.
Thinking of creating a video about this and interpreting the data from each change. It basically comes down to looking at your CTR-data and trying to make it go up by improving your title and thumbnail. There's a lot more to it though. The data you see in your TH-cam-studio doesn't tell you the whole story since you don't know what audiences TH-cam is suggesting your video to.
I appreciate you so much for making this video. I’m a fellow filmmaker, and creative professional and I created this new channel a few months ago has a one stop shop for videos of all my interests, but I’m starting to see that it’s way too diversified and I’m trying to figure out what that good niche market is so I can primarily pull people into my music. I’m trying to display to a new audience that I’m not just a rapper but I’m at Creative Profesional with the crazy life story and I’m trying to tell it through music and video.
If you saw one of these videos, you have seen them all. There are many creators out there trying to "sell you the shovel" while not really knowing how to dig for the actual gold themselves. If you are a true creator and keep making videos, soon or later, the right audience will find you. Good luck.
What an interesting video, different than the classic one year in review, with more qualitative assessments and your own subjective observations which i found to be actually valuable to me. Thank you 🙂
Well for me personally i got me a Monetized youtube channel with over 20k from viral npc marketplace (it is now 30K) and im now earning like an old youtuber. This what majority of the people do now im trying to share my experience :) Btw good video THO
I’ve been on TH-cam for 7 years and I’ve made £2000 😂 It’s so hard to make money as a small creator on TH-cam but I love every minute it gives me something to focus on and a creative outlet which I love every minute of! I’m thinking of starting a new vlogging channel and see how that goes
Wow, dude, this is really interesting. The thumbnail, and the title were super intriguing, even though I'll be honest, I didn't feel like your thumbnail popped that much. But I studied it enough to be super curious, even though I've never heard of you before. Well done! I think the best part was the cheat codes on paired with your title about a secret TH-cam channel. I'm definitely going to be figuring out a way I could do the same on my channel. Even more importantly, I really appreciated your message. And all of the things that you learned over the past year. It's been a long grind on TH-cam for me. I've been on the platform for five years, granted I started with zero editing or filmmaking experience basically . I had a way to climb lol On top of being in a very saturated niche with fitness. But just your point ring, so true that anything good takes time. It's the same thing with building a physique. Most people want hyperfast results, but it just takes a long time of putting in the work and making the right choices and getting one percent better. It's absolutely the same with TH-cam and filmmaking. Really appreciate your channel and you earned a new sub!
Hey, fellow skateboarder and makeup artist here. Your channel is really inspiring me to get back into creating content. I’ve been on TH-cam since 2005 and changed my channel theme so many times. Creating content around trending themes is a really good way to get views, but there is also the conflict of making videos you are passionate about vs what brings in revenue.
thank you very much! this was so inspiring. can you show how you created those shots from the top of your room? i loved them. and also noted that those plants need some extra nutrients. thank u again for all the great content and inspo!
Yes! It was a 360 camera placed on a tripod close to the ceiling. Put it in timelapse-mode and did the rotation and zoom in post. Plants have been watered and they are very thankful for your notice 🌴
Wow, congratulations to your journey. I really love this video and I'm now a new subbie. I had my channel for almost 10 years and nothing happens, lol! So I really need to use some of your tips, if not all ;) . Have a fab day1
I'm just starting and I see that it will be necessary to put a lot of effort into you tube, a lot of things will have to be learned. but where there's a will, there's a way, I'll persevere this year to see what the result will be at the end of the year. thank you for your advice.
Loved the video, very informational and pretty much solidifies that thumbnail and title are king above all else. Without figuring out those two things. might as well not make the video.
Make them click then keep them. You can do it with a 20k camera or a 20$ camera (as long as the audio is decent) Fancy is nice but maybe not worth the time. Unless you feel it is. Not only is the title important but the time you post. You can delete a video with no views, reupload it and get 300k. That is how stupid TH-cam is. I posted 15 shorts a day for 30 days and got 6million views in 3 months but means nothing. It's easy to hack if you understand it but you need TH-cam to push your content and the best way to do that is not niche. Make content that appeals to the Broadest audience and don't tag it at all lol if you don't tell TH-cam who your audience is it will work harder for you ;)
Nice. Good story. I like the way you deliver information :). I was thinking about making one (just one) quality youtube video, with good content and good visuals. To see what happens. This video actually gave me hope, that fresh creators can succeed with good content :)
I'm more into memes and gaming but I found this video really interesting Shorts and live streams is what I fell in love so I don't have the time for normal videos but I'm working on getting an editors since I got to 1k and I'm monetized hopefully I will be more convincing to work with somebody
Get work as a freelance production assistant. Try helping out on small projects for independents. Read books on the topic, watch videos. You’ll be far ahead of film school graduates. Without the debt.
Its is a combination of luck and skill. Luck is always involved. The best Niche to have is one that interest everyone like money. Something like fixing cars way less people do that so those channels wont have as much potential as a finance channel because everyone wants to be rich but not everyone wants to fix a car themself. What defines good quality?

I enjoyed your story, takes a lot of guts and passion, congrats!
This was incredibly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and your continuing journey!
this video was shown to me out of nowhere, watched every second, clicking through every video now, subscribed!! Great work!!
I stayed at The Botel a few months ago! Lovely little hotel!
This what happens to me: I click this kinda video, watch it and at the final I permanently hear the same conclusion. The same: title and thumbnail, patience, do what you like, it takes time. Thank you guys! I already know. And I use this knowledge...
How's that working out for you?
@@angellover02171 , the way I said above.
Interesting @@hottakes9242 . tHanks
great and insightful video, congrats! if your still struggling with the 'i learnt AI' video thumbnail, I'd have a computer/laptop screen in the thumbnail, maybe with you sitting behind it looking confused or stressed. the video isn't about the reel footage you made (like the thumbnail currently shows) its about you and you attempts to learn how to make something and additionally should inspire others to try or not give up (aka be like you). its about the journey and not the destination and your thumbnail should represent that
This was a great watch!
Thank you for sharing Bruno, much appreciated!
OMG this is exactly the strategy I came up with for this year. I'm so glad to have this as a case example to compare to. Subscribing
As an average youtube watcher, I'd say Gawx art is absolutely amazing. His videos remind me of Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantinos movies
Wow. Thank you for sharing this useful information. 👍👏👏Well done. New subscriber here.
My TikTok blew up a bit talking about my job
I got bored of it… i have so many other things i want to talk about. It didn’t get so much response on TikTok, so i started my TH-cam channel for that purpose.
tHanks for the video! Wishing you and all the subscribers a fresh and exciting New Year!
Great video Bruno. Love the analysis! :)
Great video. Good insights. Good luck with the journey. Just a tiny suggestion. Look up how the word "views" is pronounced. Best wishes!
Love the video man, thanks for sharing your journey!
@@Bruno_Kay what is your main channel?
The data you see in your TH-cam-studio doesn't tell you the whole story since you don't know what audiences TH-cam is suggesting your video to.
summary for me is: U need a shitton of money for equipment.
Would like to see a journey like this, with just a smartphone and free to use tools.
Nop.
Good luck.
cool video, when you talk about interpreting the data, what do you mean exactly?
Thank you so much for creating this video and sharing your TH-cam journey. 🎉
What an interesting video, different than the classic one year in review, with more qualitative assessments and your own subjective observations which i found to be actually valuable to me. Thank you 🙂
Thanks! Yeah, I think focussing on the work and how you feel about it is just as important as the results in metrics.
This video is so cool, very informative, and helpful. Congrats on your effort!
Hope you get a lot of fuse, bruh
Great analysis, much appreciated 👍
Ik zie opeens een bekend gezicht op m’n yt homepage! Merry Christmas mate!
Haha wat een toeval! Merry Christmas! 🎄
Congrats on the journey and thanks for sharing this with us.
Nice one thank you very helpful.
If anyone has any advice on how I can improve my videos it would mean a lot
I will watch and give honest feedback. All I ask is that you say thanks.
yesterday i noticed a video of mine got 1million views, it took off 5 years after i posted it :S (just thought people should know)
Of course, it's not luck, at least not just that. It's planned work towards a goal with a little bit of luck too 🦄 Well done.
Great video, dude!
Hey, Bruno! I really appreciate you sharing your whole journey :) Truly learned a lot :)
Well for me personally
i got me a Monetized youtube channel with over 20k from viral npc marketplace (it is now 30K) and im now earning like an old youtuber. This what majority of the people do now im trying to share my experience :) Btw good video THO
Thank you so much for sharing all your information. Patience is something that i struggle with. This is very helpful to me and others.
Love this breakdown! Super insightful
I’ve been on TH-cam for 7 years and I’ve made £2000 😂
It’s so hard to make money as a small creator on TH-cam but I love every minute it gives me something to focus on and a creative outlet which I love every minute of!
👍
thank you very much! this was so inspiring. can you show how you created those shots from the top of your room? i loved them. and also noted that those plants need some extra nutrients. thank u again for all the great content and inspo!
Yes! It was a 360 camera placed on a tripod close to the ceiling. Put it in timelapse-mode and did the rotation and zoom in post. Plants have been watered and they are very thankful for your notice 🌴
Very interesting stuff, i was honestly very surprised that with the tactic of changing thumbnails and titles.
Hey, where is the video about color grading? I can't find it on your channel.
Hey, great video! I would love to see one about title & thumbnail importance.
Hey man ik checkte vroeger regelmatig je skatevideos en nu kom je in mijn recommended met dit account, lekker bezig!!
Loved the video, very informational and pretty much solidifies that thumbnail and title are king above all else. Without figuring out those two things. might as well not make the video.
Awesome video! I learned a lot and enjoyed it 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Make them click then keep them. You can do it with a 20k camera or a 20$ camera (as long as the audio is decent)
Fancy is nice but maybe not worth the time.
Make content that appeals to the Broadest audience and don't tag it at all lol if you don't tell TH-cam who your audience is it will work harder for you ;)
Slowly coming to terms with the fact that I need to be on instagram sharing my art 😂 this video helped, thank you!
Very informative! Thank you
Nice. Good story. I like the way you deliver information :).
I was thinking about making one (just one) quality youtube video, with good content and good visuals. To see what happens. This video actually gave me hope, that fresh creators can succeed with good content :)
So only the first time is luck…. and that’s all you need
Great and honest video. I would like to see how do you make cinematic shots by yourself. Like cam movements etc.
Thanks for sharing your experience
I'm more into memes and gaming but I found this video really interesting
Shorts and live streams is what I fell in love so I don't have the time for normal videos but I'm working on getting an editors since I got to 1k and I'm monetized hopefully I will be more convincing to work with somebody
It bothers me the “T” in TH-cam isn’t capitalized in the title
Just curious, what is your skateboarding channel?
amazing video man!
Great job bruno. Iam actually in search of a good film school to learn film making and cinematography because i really love it
Get work as a freelance production assistant. Try helping out on small projects for independents. Read books on the topic, watch videos. You’ll be far ahead of film school graduates. Without the debt.
Very informative and nicely explained video..Best wishes for your new channel 👍
Very insightful video! Thanks!
