I love, “Kevin doesn’t play the cello…He invites it to sing with the group “ that’s beautifully said
Kevin doesn't PLAY his cello ... He invites it to sing with the group, allowing it to share it's voice. I'm a Home Frie and Voice Player, but being a Pentaholic is what began my acapella journey and THIS was a perfect example why.
And they ALL led me to your channel, the highest praise I can give them. Wonderful reaction and analysis...
Thank you!
Same here! I was a Pentaholic first, but VP & HF came along soon after. But I'm still a Pentaholic first. They are all amazingly talented, & have totally different styles, so they can't even be compared. Ptx is still on top for me though. My ultimate wish come true would be a concert featuring all 3 groups performing together!!!
Have you heard/seen their rendition of "Dancing On My Own"? It's the first of two songs they recorded after Avi left and before Matt arrived (I'm not sure what the other was). It was their farewell to Avi. Kevin tuned Beyoncé (his acoustic cello, the one he's playing in "Shallow") low so she could "sing" Avi's part in the arrangement, while Kevin was still handling percussion, and looking like he was about to burst into tears the entire time. Heart wrenching.
The other song is Away In a Manger, set in a forest where everyone does a variety of body percussion.
Technically, Avi hadn't left the group when Dancing On My Own was released; it came out in summer of 2017, and Avi was with them until they finished the summer tour in fall 2017. But I agree that the cello really seemed to be filling in for Avi's missing bass line.
The other is Away In A Manger
Thanks.
You could do a whole year of Pentatonix focus weeks and I'd be there for every one.
I'm with you!
Yeah, that.
Kirstie does an amazing job.
Conveying her emotions, with her strong beautiful voice..
My choice would be "Seasons of Love by Pentatonix!
Hi Jen, awaiting your next comments! just watched: Scott Hoying: I Should Tell Ya Momma On You. Really special and unique and would love to know techniques behind this.......
This is so rarely reacted to and yet I can watch it for the 300th time and still be 😮
When I saw that this was going to be the next entry on your Pentatonix "week", I was excited to hear what you would be saying about it. This is a video that seems to slip past a lot of reactors, and I'm so glad that your Patrons voted it in for you!
Kirstin has so much "cry" in her voice when she's belting out the chorus - she's really portraying the emotional impact of the song. Matt and Beyoncé switching back and forth on who has the lower tone. Mitch's high, soaring voice on the bridge. Matt doing a fantastic job at imitating the cello right after Mitch's bridge, where Kevin stops playing but the "cello" can still be heard. So many things to like about this arrangement and performance!
One nice visual detail in the video: it's shot in black-and-white, but there are splashes of gold color with some jewelry and fixtures in the room. That's a nod to the posters for the movie, which were also black-and-white except for the gold lettering in the title, A Star Is Born.
I also love the little "Bad Romance" quote that Kirstie does towards the end, which I'm sure was done to honor Lady Gaga.
Kirsten has grown so much as a singer over the years also Scott made massive steps. edit: i think scott is my favorite voice on this song.
Any time Kevin plays cello, I am there for it. ❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Aha live Singapore mitch goes off
Yes, Amazing!!
Two things:
1. "Aha!" is a very strange song. It carries a feeling of dread, with no explanation. In the official video for it they provide an explanation, so it's best to watch the official video first, so the song makes sense.
2. "Aha live Singapore" won't find the video you're referring to. Try "PTX Aha Singapore the Star Vista."
Scotts voice here is one of my favorites for him. The texture, the depth, quality .. so much in one performance. ❤
Kevin’s ability to carry one rhythm with the cello and a different one with the vocal percussion is just Amazing!
If there were ever a male-set voice that could match Lady Gaga in style and power, Scott would be my pick. They all sound wonderful, but a Scott - Gaga duet would be life altering.
Every duet I’ve listened to no matter who he was singing with has been exceptional.
Best idea I've heard all day 👍
I think his duet here with Kirstie is better than Lady Gaga, imo
@@patbrewer4205 oh, it's SUBLIME! But I'm just FINDING Lady Gaga over the past 3 or so years and am amazed by her power. With Scott, they would turn it up to a 15 IMHO
Please tell me you've seen superfruit's evolutionof lady gaga? Scott's got some great parts in it and Mitch being able to match tone and voice stylings of whoever he's singing gives him a run for his money. Together as a duo they are just incredible. Look it up if you haven't seen it.@@WilliamRoop-xt6rp
Great analysis - as always. And a sensational arrangement. You tend to forget, how genius almost all of their arrangements really are!
I learn so much from you - I have had voice lessons for 10 years when I was in my 30's -- i am 70 now - your great - stop as much as your want - thanks
The more I hear this one the more I pay attention to the background. It really is a lovely arrangement. Great reaction!
I love when they add the cello even though they're a capella
I love your reactions. A couple of fun videos to watch are "Come Along" and "Butter x Dynamite". They have so many to choose from.
They are the best arrangers in the industry since The Sing Off. Who is better than them?
This is from 2019. In February through May, 2018, Kirstin performed in the Broadway production of the Kinky Boots musical and I think she got some vocal coaching to prepare her for doing seven shows a week. It seems to me there was a change in her vocal quality and power before and after.
I love that Pentatonix week ended up with so much cello! I could talk about how amazing Kevin is, but then I would have to do the same for each of them. How incredible is it that these five people ended up together?
Great job. It's so much fun watching you experience these for the first time.❤
They covered a Billie Eilish song - "When The Party's Over" - that I would love to see you react to.
I'm glad that I've found someone who likes the intricacies of their music as much as I do.
Thanks for the PTX reactions week, great insights as always Jen 😊
Dunno if you caught it but the riff at 11:58 is a reference to Gaga's Bad Romance
You're like.. one of my new favorite reactors I've recently found. Keep up the work. 🩵
Again, I'm here for any PTX you react to. Love your attitude and personality as well as your knowledge of vocals, and I will be here for the next one.
Pentatonix got me into acapella music. I love your reaction!
I am a music educator and I always enjoy your analysis comments. You bring enough technical expertise to your break downs to explain what you are hearing without being overly "wordy". I would love to hear your take on a very much older pentatonix piece that I believe was an original titled "Run to You". Check it out it is breathtaking to say the least.
I love your reaction videos...I find myself rewatching what you post - they are informative and you are entertaining.
Hold on!! I have to check the ones you’ve already reacted to 😊 Then I will definitely come up with some requests. I’m happy that you reacted to this!I’ve listened to Shallow a kazillion times but you talked about some things I didn’t notice before.
At about 12:38, they added the Bad Romance melody into this song. I don't know if anyone caught onto that. It blended right into this song and sounded amazing.
When I first heard this my one thought was "beautiful". Thanks Just Jen, for the analysis, it just puts a gloss in that beauty.
What a great week! I'm so happy you love these guys as much as we do. This cover is just perfection IMO. I really enjoyed your reaction and breakdown of it. I hope you will still, from time to time, do PTX reactions (outside of this dedicated week). Thank you so much.
Love your reaction. I'm a Pentaholic all the way. You got my attention reacting to them. You have picked up a fan in me. Hopefully you react to them again. No I don't do Home Free or Voiceplay. I'm strictly PTX. I get that I might be missing other great music but I'm again PTX all the way. Keep up the great work and God bless
Merci pour ses 4 jours de réactions à Pentatonix. J'apprécie ton analyse et les explications que tu donnes sont toujours intéressantes. Hâte de voir tes prochaines réactions 😊
I was so hoping you did shallow!!
Jennifer! Wonderful cap to a great Pentatonix week! I had heard this one before but still enjoyable to listen to it with you and break it down. That cello ... we could almost have called it Cello week! Either it was dumb luck or it was a plot! But it worked out quite nicely as it added some nice depth to the songs. Really enjoyed this one, and actually the whole week Jen. Thank you for putting this focus week together for us! Great reaction and analysis as always.
I enjoyed their version just as much as the original! Great job Jenn! Low bass Kenneth
The night before Scott's wedding Kirstin and Scott did this together with Scott on piano.
Don't ever change! Just so much fun to watch you. Pure joy!
You bet I followed all 4 of the songs you did. Would love you to do more PTX more often. I'm sure the demands for many artists make choosing very difficult.
I feel like they had a flare of ‘Bad Romance’ in the section where you first mentioned it being more pop.
Thanks Jennifer. Really enjoyed this week of your PTX reactions. Thanks for pointing out so many subtleties in the vocals and the arrangement that just bring us Pure Pentatonix Perfection every time. Looking forward to more PTX reactions from you!
I have loved this week with you and PTX. Thank you so much for devoting so much time to them. They deserved every minute of your reaction. The BVs do keep it interesting, for sure.
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
I have been a fan since The Sing off and Superfruit.
Did you catch the little "Bad Romance" tidbit there? I loved it
Gorgeous!
Thanks for this week! Always love your analysis of their work. I hope you get to react to Run To You one day because it's stunning and often overlooked. An original from the Avi era in 5-parts. Kevin sings, no percussion.
Thank Jen ❤❤❤❤ your on 🔥 📛
It’s gonna be a blast ! 💥 😊❤
Definitely an upgrade in my opinion.❤
based on Google search (for what that's worth) - Matt's lowest note is G#1 and a cello's lowest note is C2
Amazing!
This is my favorite PTX video where Kevin is playing the cello. I love how he lets Beyoncé sing throughout. Kiss From a Rose may have moved into second place but that’s not with Beyoncé, it’s with the electric cello. So glad you did both of those videos this week. Thanks!
During the cello shot at about 4:48 the bright gold ring caught my eye and I started noticing all was black & white except for bits of jewelry and other select things in gold.
I haven't listened to this one in ages! It's excellent, thanks for reacting. I love the aesthetic of this vidoe too, it goes well with the music. For the next Pentatonix week I would love you to analyze Dancing on my Own (I would suggest Away in a Manger paired with it, because those are the two vidoes they did after Avi left but before Matt joined, but I don't know if you do holiday music outside Nov/Dec). A really fun one from the early days is Starships. Oh, and you could mix a Superfruit one in there!! I highly highly recommend their Lady Gaga medley or the Empire Medley, Scott and Mitch sound great in those. They are not acapella but they are one-takes in the studio with minimal production.
This is my second favorite Pentatonix song/video with imagine being number one. I just find the black and white with the hint of gold so classy. I don't know if you know this but Kevin calls his cello Beyonce. This video does not get near the attention that it should because I think it is something really really special . Just as you are something really special. I thoroughly enjoy your reactions
Recommend their original, Happy Now.
Check out Mitch Grassi's stunning cover of the Billie Eilish song "Your Power" !
Yes, I watched the whole week and want more. Could you do another week please? There are SO many more excellent songs that need your analysis and obvious enjoyment!
I’ll be back 😊
Hey Jen and crew! I missed the live premiere, but I'll imagine all of your shining faces... Can't wait.
im suprised you didnt say anything about the grace notes that kristin is doing. i thought that was a cool addition that you havent heard them do much of. you always break it apart really well. thank you for a learned view of their talents
Yes I was screaming at you and no you are not remotely sorry 😂😂
I wish you would continue your PTX journey on a more regular basis. I'm here for each PTX reaction.
I would love for you to go way back and listen to Cracked
Do can you feel the love tonight ir better yet do aha live
Mitch will always be my favorite ❤
Thank you.
Another great ptx reaction. I love this one as I do at least 50 ptx upgrades/priginals. Thanks for this
Great Analysis, on spot!👏🏻👏🏻
I like you✌🏻, you don't know what to expect with them, every time don't ya!
Hopping try with "Valentine" next time.
Pentatonix always puts their own twist on a song. They did Lady Gaga proud on this one. I really love when Kevin gets to play his cello as is a very good cellist. I really liked your analysis on this one Jen
It totally makes sense to me that Matt would be lower than the cello. His part is mimicking what would be the bass instrument in the song, which is technically lower than a cello.
If you really want to trace their history from the start you need to watch every performance they did on The Sing Off. At the very least watch their 12th performance.
Have you watched their performances on The Sing off?
Pentatonix never fails you, they're always so on point. If you want to explore an artist that I see you haven't yet reacted to then you should look up a man named Tommy Johansson. Imo he has one of the current best rock voices in the world, he's a genius guitarrist and keyboardplayer, he also does new renditions of songs every week as a hobby when he's not with his own bands. If you choose to react to him I suggest you start with his rendition of "You raise me up", there you can really experience his range and I have yet to see a reactor who hasn't been captivated by him.
thank you for this Jenn .. i don't know if you like Sleep Token .. but do enjoy them .. the guy's voice is really good .. pick a song of theirs and go for it
Check out "Mars" from Scott! Worth the time.
I can't wait for your reactions to Geoff Castellucci's Wicked Game and Voiceplay's Sleeping In The Cold Below.
Reacciona a Gold, Porfis. Amooo❤❤❤❤❤. Gracias
You might want to check out the Hollywood Bowl live stream version. The arrangement is a little bit different, but is really good.
Second post here: 1: there was a definite rhotic “r”in spaghetti slurp. Are you secretly Irish? 2. In ‘Say Something, Kirstie’s a crushed young 20-something. Here, she’s a woman grown, quite able to handle herself.
Here it comes...
Question, for videos they usually lip sing to the video. Would they be able to hit some of those notes while sitting?
Original by Lady Gaga with Bradley Copper, emotional playground.
I love the songs where Beyonce comes out. If you haven't already go back and look for Kevins solo videos where he beatboxes whilst playing.
They'd be on his YT channel, K.O. Kevin Olusola.
They all sound amazing but this was one time where I never liked the original song and PTX didn't change that for me. My favorite part melodically is Mitch's solo at the bridge and some of the cello lines like the reference to Bad Romance
please make reaction to Afgan Shallow Water..
thankyou,, have a good day
React to Annalisa, amazing italian singer. She deserves more recognition. Recently dropped an album that is full of amazing songs: Bellissima, Ragazza Sola, Sinceramente, Euforia and more. Great vocals and catchy songs. And her live performances are amazing too, one of the best if not the best that i've heard for a long time.
⚡⚡❣❣❣❣❣⚡⚡
Did you notice the little riff they threw in as a nod to Lady Gag's Bad Romance? th-cam.com/video/7NpklKcfI5o/w-d-xo.html
😊
Every Pentatonix singer is at least a 9.8, and Ben Bram is a 15.
😀👍
Hello sorry I'm late
You praise Kevin's cello playing but have you mentioned he named it Beyonce?
I feel like at this point I'll be disappointed if you didn't finish this off with Radioactive
I think you will need a Pentatonix week once at least once a month, which will take you years to get through their playlist
