About your initial cinematography question: not sure how they do it, but it's not just a single object (Kevin's ring) that stands out. The video is in black-and-white, but everything that is gold (rings, earrings, necklaces, room furnishings) is highlighted. That whole idea is a nod to the posters for the movie, which were all shot on black-and-white film, with the only color being the gold of the lettering in the title, A Star Is Born. PTX always gets the details right!

I'm also a hardcore Swiftie, so those reactions have been a great way of bringing me back even when you go SO LONG between Ptx reactions. That being said, PLEASE bring us more Ptx. As someone else mentioned, there's a little nod to Lady Gaga who sang the original in the movie with a short "Bad Romance" rif (at 6:08 on your video). The black and white with splashes of gold is also a nod to the "A Star is Born" movie posters and soundtrack cover which were in black and white with gold lettering. Scott and Kirstie apparently also sang this one together at the pre-wedding welcome the night before Scott and Mark's wedding last summer. There was a lot of karaoke that evening with Scott at the piano. On another note, Scott has a new solo track being released on March 1!

It's the song that inspired them to do Run To You, a 5 part harmony song, performed at a concert. It's superb and you'd love it!! I'm pretty sure the video is shot in colour then it's turned into greyscale with the option to retain a colour, in this case gold. It's certainly done in stills so I imagine it's not too difficult to extend that to the individual frames in a video. Then it's just a case of selecting the items you want to highlight and make sure they are the only gold (or whatever colour you choose) objects in the scene. Subtle but effective. Now who else do I know like that? Oh, of course. So now, you amazing, beautiful person, I'll see you in the next video.

Hi - the original is already more than good, but PTX's version is unbelievably, tremendously good - out of this world. And that applies to all the covers. All the members have exceptional voices; Kirstin not only sings very well, no, she is also so exceptionally pretty. I love watching and listening to PTX; they are a great pleasure - just like your reactions to the various videos.
Great reaction - it's been FAR TOO Long between PTX reactions! Suggest you do an original next - Happy Now or Love me when you don't (there is a great semi live version of that one!) or do the Evolution of Beyonce.
I've only done a bit of compositing but this is my best educated guess from my limited experience. To make things easier in post, I think they probably tried to eliminate as much gold/yellow colors on set, aside from their props. Then using compositing software, you sample a specific color in the image and adjust the values to make a decent mask which you'll then use to block the grayscale effect and heighten the gold color. That being said, computers and footage are not perfect, so a compositor likely had to go in there to clean up the edges and mistakes. Any compositors out there, please feel free to correct me, always like learning new techniques

I wonder if they used a form of reverse greenscreen? Everything they wanted to show up as gold was actually green, then in post production, it was picked out and changed. Except of course the plant in tge background throws that tgeory out tge window.
If you're still going through some PTX stuff, I highly recommend a video out there, where Kirstin does a Disney medley with backup singers, its only 1 member of the group but still a very good watch. In a similar vein, I'd recommend "From now on" cover by Musicality. There's some moments in there..
I don't remember all the Pentatonix reactions you've done so I can't suggest one BUT I will suggest more Avi. You reacted to Change on the Rise a year ago and loved it, I was hoping you would have reacted to more of his songs.
I think you would really like Mon Laferte "Tu falta de querer" live presentation, it was so magical and emotional that it's more viewed than the original songs video
I like avi alot but when he left and was replaced the group as a whole got better with even more range and ability. They sacrificed a little bit on the low end but gain more back all around.
The video is not in Black and White. It is colored and they dublicate the footage, turn it in Black and White und put it above the other Footage put a mask on it. Good traking and a good skills in After Effects, and its done. Its my Daily Business. its one way doing this. 🙂
This may be a bit if a niche suggestion, but if you want to do something completely different, have a look at Superfruit doing 'Feeling Myself' by Nicki Minaj. You'll never look at Mitch the same way again 😂
