Finally someone that does not demonise meditation! coming from 25 years in the New Age practicing meditation as a tool I knew God meant me to stick around there to learn something. I am now Saved for the past two years I have struggled as I thought Meditation was an esoteric practice and to be left alone. But recently Holy Spirit is guiding me back to learn how to USE the tool in the Biblical sense and there it IS! If I may add to this wonderful explanation as I used to work with mantras which are a form of repetition using certain sillables words and also sound to de-tangle the mental 'garbage' and clear it living only pure consciousness however the missing link in that system was CHRIST. Without Christ all Meditation becomes a portal to unwanted spirits, however what you just explained is the same concept but with the intent to stay in CHRIST and to take all thoughts CAPTIVE but also to make room for a Conversation with GOD, and you are right when you repeat a phrase or sing it it becomes like a vehicle to focus on and it helps all the 'mental chatter' fall by the side (which is what you have done) Sound repeated creates a vacuum wherein the thought process cannot thrive so especially useless chatter has to dissolve therein lies the mystery I guess of what you have just explained and why it works. Thank you so much I believe this is a missing link in my Christian Walk and I MUST introduce it in my daily devotion without it I otherwise think that one stays stuck in the mind never to quite reach that place of true intimacy with GOD on a daily basis. I was blessed to be born in the family who loved Jesus and lived as best how he taught, I was so lucky. I had my first experience with the Holy Spirit at 9 years old, here I am 36 now, and just beginning to realize the tool that God gave us through meditation. This is 100% my personal opinion but I wonder if it’s not talked a lot in church because there is an inherent risk of someone who doesn’t have a strong faith of getting swayed over to thinking that it’s their own power they achieve a particular thought, or feeling. Just my thought cause I don’t know if the younger more spiritually immature version of myself would’ve been strong enough to experience some things I have recently through meditation and not let the ego take control and think I suddenly had it all figured out. Good stuff.

Kirk, just recently I've been wondering if I have been mediating the word properly because of hardships I've been facing - wondering "Am I growing?" Asking the Father, "Am studying Your word accurately?" When I viewed your video, it was a confirmation that I am on the right track. Like you, I've been studying and journaling for years. My study notes often turn into prayers because of seeing something I hadn't seen before. Thank you so much for posting this awesome teaching.
