I bought Japanese curry roux last night and made some. It was the first time I made some. It was warm and comforting. Next time I'll cook the onions longer. 😊
Thank you so much for your comment! I bet you made great curry! and yea, please try that too next time :) I think it will make the curry even more delicious.
I love that you have added subtitles to your videos, it makes it much easier for someone hard of hearing like me. I love the House brand curry roux so I buy the medium-heat one in giant boxes. It keeps really well!! So, I will share my secret with you since you shared yours: I add grated apple and a little honey to mine to make it sweeter and more palatable for my toddler and husband (both who are a bit more picky). I was amazed to see you add the bread crust in, that is brilliant. Great video as always! I can't wait to try making those spring rolls 💟
I am so glad that the subtitles are helpful :) Wow! You have a lot of curry roux. Amazing! And, thank you for teaching me your secret to make great curry. I wanna try the apple next time. Hope you will like the spring rolls too. Enjoy!!
Hello. I really enjoy watching your channel. Unfortunately, I am water fasting right now and when I come off this fast, I will need to eat low carb due to some bad life decisions earlier in life. But I really enjoy your channel and it gives me ideas. I'm not a good cook, but it's time to learn. I've decide to start with just a couple of recipes so I can get those down and be comfortable with them. One of those dishes is miso soup. It sounds delicious and channels like yours have helped me create a recipe that will fit my needs and should be tasty. Thank you. I hope you have a good day.
Thank you so much for your comment. I am so glad you liked my video! I hope you enjoy eating some good food :) Take care, and you have a wonderful day 😊
Yes, I have several brands of Japanese curry. I love all of them. I have not tried the brand you recommend, but see if I can find it. I LOVE Japanese curry.
I am so glad you watched this too. Thank you so much for your time 😆 Yes, curry roux and curry powder are very useful, you can enjoy a lot of dishes with it. Please give them a try! Thanks Senia!!
In the United States, most grocery stores sell the boxed golden curry roux. Some stores will sell multiple brands but this is the one that’s mostly available
Thank you for watching this video too! Yes, you can add the curry powder to miso soup. Please add just a little bit. Curry powder and miso are great match actually 👍
I can easily find curry roux and S&B curry powder in England. I can find JAVA or S&B. Japanese curry roux is so easy to find that even my local small supermarket has S&B golden curry. I even had Japanese curry in my hometown in the USA in the 1990s.
Wow! I didn't know that. That's so nice! So the custom of eating curry is more common in the UK than in other Western countries...? Hope my recipes can help your cooking sometime. 😊
Beautiful! Excellent curry dishes! I love Japanese curry, but also cook Indian, Thai and Seychelles. They are all different. Yes, a curry can taste even better the next day. Pork, chicken or beef are fine. I prefer Japanese curry with beef or as kema curry with minced beef, maybe half pork plus corn and maybe green peas. Beef is more rare in India but can be found in some areas, pork is big in Goa and Kerala. Otherwise lamb is king, but I know it is hard to find and expensive in Japan. I used to bicycle 15 kms to a muslim halal shop to get sheep meat at a reasonable price. Sry, I digress. No Jawa curry roux here in Romania, but I always buy S&B Golden curry medium or hot, it is very good. A third of one package is good for a curry for two people. Yes, S&B curry powder is available here. It is good, but do not replace the whole spices etc in a full Indian curry. Curry bread is addictive. Along with the simple egg salad sandwiches it was a favourite in Japan. I enjoyed it a lot also in South Africa, also curries served in half bread loaves, a lot of Indian people in SA. The way you make your curry bread is great. In the north-west of India some make very, very dry curry, boil it down so there is no sauce left, constantly scraping the bottom of the iron pan. I have tried it at home, it is easy, but takes a lot of time. Serve with a raita sauce and naan. Sorry, I digress again, do not want to take attention from your recipes. Looking forward to your next clip, do not let the comments take away time from the cooking :-))
Thank you so much for your comment! Wow, you also have experience of curry in Africa!! That's really cool. I wish I could try curry dishes in all over the world. Thanks for teaching me about food culture here. It's really interesting to know :)
@@JapaneseCookingChannel Seychelles, creole and Mauritius curry is a bit different from Indian or Thai, and Japanese. It is often made quite thick with coconut milk, the usual Indian spices and also saffron, tamarind, sweet potato and other fresh or dried fruits or juices. It is made with different meats or with shrimps, fish or octopus/tako. I like to make it medium spicy and quite fruity, easy to cook, plenty of recipes on the net. I South Africa I only had Indian style curry. In west Africa I never had curry, but many other good dishes, stews and soups and their fufu and cassawa mashes. Hot pepper fish soup is also very good. In north Africa I only had cous-cous with lamb and merguez, but often with dried raisins or apricots. But to return to the subject, Japanese curry. I find it addictive and special and make it often, very easy with the roux cubes. Your collection of recipes is great!
The S&B Japanese or "Golden" curry roux is widely available here in the North East USA. Other kinds are harder to come by unless you have a market nearby that sells imported groceries from Japan, China or Southeast Asia. Or in my case, Tibet. :D Shout out to Kathmandu Snacks!
@@JapaneseCookingChannel Haha no, Kathmandu Snacks is the name of my favorite imported groceries shop! :D They have a large selection of goods from all over Asia.
Japanese curry roux is available in Asian grocery shops in Poland, but price is crazy. It's close to 1000¥ and for that money here you can cook entire dinner for two people.
try making a very simple tarka daal, red lentils with some chopped onions and ginger. The S&B curry powder is perfect. Make sure it is a bit watery, almost like a soup. I read many recipes about lentil curries etc with way too many ingredients, the simplest is the best. Also pakal aloo is great, spinach and potatoes. Kids food! :-))
Thanks for your comment! If you could find Japanese style sausage which is called "Wiener", it would be great! But any type of them are fine, I think. my-best.net/20238
The label on the S&B curry powder I use does not indicate the level of spiciness. I would say it's not really spicy. It's hardly spicy, just a strong curry flavor!
ah, dry curry. The one unique curry style of Japan. It was kinda hard to explain to chefs that never tried it about the concept. Especially when explaining the 4 types of dry curry

thanks for this video! Japanese katsu curry is my favourite meal, and I really love all types of Japanese curry!
That's my favorite too! Katsu curry is the best! I should have used katsu toppings instead of vegetables. haha

I love soupy curry. Makes me think of winter with snow falling at night
Oh, I didn't make the soupy curry this time. I wanna try making that next time.

My experience with Japanese curry is the boxed Golden Curry from the grocery store
Thank you for your comment!
It seems that Golden Curry is the most typical curry roux in foreign countries!
Can you please make a video about what are the necessary sauces and ingredients to make Japanese foods.
Thank you for your request! I'm planning to make that kind of video in the future :)
