I was 23 in 1974 and just got out of the Navy the previous year. This album blew me away. Especially the song "Heroin". I still have this recording in my pickup truck and listen to it often.

what I like best about seeing him play live is that every shot of him is a picture, he has such a strong bold image, how he wears those shades and his facial expressions, every move is a picture.

They toured with him in 1973 and recorded the famous rock and roll animal at Howard Stein Academy in December of 1973 that was released in February 1974. The show that you're watching here was recorded in Brussels Belgium, not in Paris featuring dangerous Danny Weiss from Iron Butterfly on guitar. This is 1974 Sally Can't Dance Tour. Prakash John , bass is still alive and well in Toronto area and Danny Weiss retired somewhere in the Collingwood area, an hour north of Toronto, despite being from California. Danny, who was also a founding member of Iron Butterfly looks to be a vision of health as does Prakash.

By the way, hilariously, Gadda Da Vida was born of a member's drunken attempt at singing "Garden of Eden".

Glann and John came from Toronto band Mandala, which evolved into Bush (long before the British band of that name). Domenic Troiano (RIP) (gtr./voc.) and Roy Kenner (voc.) were also in those bands. When Bush split, Troiano and Kenner took Joe Walsh's place in the James Gang, while Whitey and Prakash did Lou Reed and Alice Cooper ('Welcome to My Nightmare' era). Whitey (RIP) is also the drummer seen in Bette Midler's movie, 'The Rose'. Weis, originally with early Iron Butterfly, and Fonfara came from the Electra label supergroup Rhinosceros, best known for their hit instrumental 'Apricot Brandy'. Rhinosceros was a killer band!

Somehow this got placed on the player when the parents went out ! It was the music of The Outsider -- dark & raw macbre soulful bleak ~ and Lou was a sort of 70s Jim Morrison -- yet somehow far more real and more more urgent He didnt just want to Break on Through ; he actually lived in the Other Side and ... called it HOME ! Lou was tough minded, street smart ; cranky as Hell .... and brutally honest in his assessment of the grubby world around him filled with Lost Souls . This was actual poetry from the Streets; not some idealistic Love Street ! Today its a classic live LP and Lou is RIP.😢 The intro is mind boggling thanks to Steve Hunter who wrote it. I guess he is finally happy and at peace.

this grand bass player is: Prakash John.
John was recruited in 1971 by George Clinton to work with Parliament/Funkadelic on the albums Chocolate City and America Eats Its Young while sharing bass playing duties with Bootsy Collins on tour. He later appeared on several rock albums and tours of the 1970s such as Lou Reed's Rock n Roll Animal, Lou Reed Live and Sally Can't Dance, as well as Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare, The Alice Cooper Show, Lace and Whiskey, and Dada.

Great coked out version of Sweet Jane! Holy mother, that's some crazy grooves for that melody. Anyway, what Lou Reed was unmatched in so many ways, even when out of his mind he was entertaining.
