Born in 62 and followed Lou's career forever. I could never get enough. Love that we are now in 2024 and the music still brings the same joy and shivers as it did when first hearing. Forever missing Lou, the Velvet Underground, Nico etc
@@dannyhernandez265 Without Warhol's imprimatur, the tapes would have been wiped. and there would be no Velvet Underground to inspire future generations.
I have no words for this song. The only thing is feeling, and it brings me the feeling of something beautiful, something I proud of, something that makes me feel fulfilled. Incredible.
Here's a band that was 25 years ahead of their time. In 1967 the Beatles sang that all you needed was love and Jim Morrison wanted his girlfriend to light his fire. The Underground ventured into the taboo of the day. Every punk, new wave, goth, indie and even techno and industrial band owes their career to this band.
There’s not really a lie here, but they were each going for different aesthetics and overall artistic expression. London was swinging. LA was bathing in sun. New York was becoming the filthy and fabulous capital of the smacked out and blacked out.
I've known this song for 6 years now, a friend of mine made me listen to it after some random hangover. It has never left me since. Everytime I feel moody, everytime the clouds grow too scary, everytime I know I'm not going to be able to cope with whatever I feel is not right, I just know there is this song. I guess we all need to spend the whole sunday crying behind the door sometimes.
I'm 62 and I can say that you're right about music (music was really fucking good) but yesterday was not better(better is always for tomorrow) yesterday was just different. Last word, I appreciate the way you looking live, you have my Cherokee blessing 🐺🦅🐻🤜🤛
Warhol wasn't a genius. He was a depraved , self important flake surrounded by sycophants and stoned wannabes. Velvet Underground were great. But their scene was a lot of horseshit
Verse 1] And what costume shall the poor girl wear To all tomorrow's parties? A hand-me-down dress from who knows where To all tomorrow's parties And where will she go and what shall she do When midnight comes around? She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown And cry behind the door [Guitar Solo] [Verse 2] And what costume shall the poor girl wear To all tomorrow's parties? Why silks and linens of yesterday's gowns To all tomorrow's parties? And what will she do with Thursday's rags When Monday comes around? She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown And cry behind the door [Guitar Solo] [Verse 3] And what costume shall the poor girl wear To all tomorrow's parties? For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown For whom none will go mourning A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown Of rags and silks, a costume Fit for one who sits and cries For all tomorrow's parties
I first heard this around 1986. It fit right in with all of my punk rock and other various records. At 60 now and still thinking about tomorrow's parties.
John Cale talked about their focus on drone music. There is a big school of musicians behind it. La Monte Young. Cage. That was Cale's influence and contribution to the early sound. Sister Ray.
I JUST LOVE THE FACT.. THAT HER VOICE ALWAYS WORKS WITH CERTAIN SONGS..BUT AT THE SAME TIME.. THEIRS NO GETTING OVER HOW ..THE GERMAN IN HER VOICE IS ALWAYS OBVIOUS.. IN OTHER WORDS IF UR NEW 2 HER SINGING &/OR VOICE.. IT QUICKLY BECOMES OBVIOUS .. AFTER EVEN JUST A FEW WORDS INTO THE SONG.. I FREAKIN LOVE IT ..ESPECIALLY BEING HALF GERMAN....L.O.L
Love the drums on this song. It's funny how Moe Tucker seemed like an adorable little pixie whose appearance clashed with the gothic attires and druggy demeanours of the other band members but when she hit the drums it was like a funeral procession marching into the gates of hell.
I understand that Nico died under the sun of Ibiza riding a bicycle, the news of the day spread it like this "junky dies on the rambla" she left in the shadows, no one remembered her anymore, a beautiful German woman, introduced into the band At Warhol's request, they didn't want it at first, but it left the legacy of having been on Velvet's best album, a great legacy and a great rock band, the first that went against what was being done. ,experimental, eccentric, strange, but rocking like no other
The first Goth Rock song. What a brilliant and beautiful track. I like how the video focuses on Nico - that heavy-lidded old soul Teutonic look is unforgettable. What a beaut.
I played this , via a cassette to Opal miners in an outback place called the Carters Rush via Grawain via Walgett NSW. around a camp fire. And the miners were from Ausie, Italians, Polish and NZ back grounds. Some cried and could not believe what they were hearing. This song emotes much.

That's one of my favorite songs because of the way it sounds. It sounds surreal and fuzzy and just so otherworldly. It reminds me of nodding off on heroin or disassociating. One of the most wonderful songs ever, first heard it when I was 18 and I'm now 53. Nico's voice is amazing
her voice was over used and so underated. I love this woman,So glad I will never forget
Not Nico singing, John Cale. Classically trained Cello player, Nico being promoted into VG by Andy Warhol. She played tambourine. Cale quit VUG.

Nico was beautiful and yet kinda scary
Remember Bowie wrote a song titled Thursday child. “Thursday child is Sunday clown that no one will go mourning”. Since he himself was an obscurist...
I remember seeing Nico at the University of Aberdeen student union back in the early 80's, which I could remember the exact year
What was she visiting there for?
Early 80s saw wrap emerge , with the break dancing that goes with it .
