Lou Reed makes everything cool. He makes being a jerk cool, he makes bisexuality cool, he makes me cool for listening to him, he makes Coke cool for drinking it, he makes Andy Warhol cool, he makes Earth cool, he makes transexuals and heroin cool, he makes sunglasses cool. Cool.
I've not idea what he's on, Dr. Drugs, but on this same tour Lou shot up heroin on stage. Although it could have been part of the show he was not very lucid.
This song and the whole concert confirms the old Duke Elklington's motto : "the value of an Orchestr is the value of its bassist". Great Prakash John !
man, Lou, boy did you rip off Iggy Pop on the dance moves in this one. Love ya man but the year before this you were sittin on a stool with long hair. Transformer still rules but Iggy would kick your ass
I love Lou Reed and I love, love every second this performance . . Absolutely beautiful, beautiful performance from Lou. - Oh I hope the same . . I hope that you've now found the man . .
@visionfirst1970 Don't give me a lesson in Lou Reed's music, i know exactly what he's singing about. He's just singing it in an over camp way, he never did that when he performed later on. Anyway, as i've said, i love his music.
Shut up pope! I yelled, not because Larry Mullins is Toby Dammit nor because anyone easing gently is better than one who will ram it nor for reasons that differentiate the taste of mutton from lamb bit
@indio77777 Well, you did call him a fairy so I did not see it as anything other than a lack of understanding of the lyrics. Meant no offense, never really do when I comment on music related vids. Peace out homie
Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads was in The Modern Lovers with Jonathan Richman too. Richman was hugely influenced by Reed and VU and the Lovers' early music showed it. Another Talking Heads-Lou Reed connection!
The Clash weren't punk at all until they heard the Sex Pistols. They actually had a meeting and decided to 'be like the Pistols'. The New York scene was great and a forerunner to punk, but I maintain, punk began with the Pistols.
hey there. I always considered bands like The Godz, The Stooges and VU to be the orignal punks. Maybe proto-punk, and if yes aren't The Undertones the original punk band? Hell, what about the first Swell Maps single?
This one is the best version. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️
That guy is right VU Dolls Stooges and Dictators predicted punk, and the Ramones gave the sound the blueprint. the Pistols establishes the "cliche" image, but with their media presence also made it a trend. And all of these bands are great!
@82rondo Try and find a copy of the bootleg from a concert he did in Sydney in 1975 called Blondes Have More Fun... he slows the tempo right down resulting in a 10 minute+ version of this song... it's a killer!
My son, Christopher William Atwood, waited for the man many times. The last time cost him his life this year 2013 at the tender age of 21. I miss him every freakin' second.
I dry my undies by holding them out the window of my car while I speed through school zones. Dry undies are more important than the lives of a few dozen brats.
This is my favorite performance of this song.
Yeah the greatest by far !
Colin Julien
Absolutely Right, pure gold
this is why a love lou reed

mitico
look at what David Bowie does to people, the exact same thing happened to iggy
@nikaye1 t'es malade ou quoi???
So many drugs
He's not stealling moves from Jagger, he's on heroin and he's letting himself go. This man was genius
Leo Chiurco
He isn't on heroin. He's on amphetamines/methamphetamine. Anyone with half a brain can tell you he's not on opiates.
I've not idea what he's on, Dr. Drugs, but on this same tour Lou shot up heroin on stage. Although it could have been part of the show he was not very lucid.
NICE STRAWMAN FALLACY PAL
Heroin doesn't make you jumpy like Lou is here like some amphetamines might ;)
that's a speed high
The extraneous arm movements indicate high quality amphetamine.
cant say how many times id be out waiting to copp somethin w this song ringin in my head
"Take me to the river" was written in 1974 ... the same year as this performance and probably was not a quote that very many people recognized then.
Same bass line !
Who’ve written Take me to the river ?
This song and the whole concert confirms the old Duke Elklington's motto :
"the value of an Orchestr is the value of its bassist".
Great Prakash John !
Glam?
Punk?
Whatever you wanna call him,Lou's a Rock N Roll God.

I miss this guy, he was the best !
nope. by 1974 all of the original punk bands had disbanded.
@visionfirst1970 Don't give me a lesson in Lou Reed's music, i know exactly what he's singing about. He's just singing it in an over camp way, he never did that when he performed later on. Anyway, as i've said, i love his music.

This song is about a dealer who is about to take my last 26$ that's about to be snatched from my hand
@rockmeamadeus23 yeah type in ride paris ride torrent on google and they give you a bunch of options to download from
@indio77777 Hes not singing about "his man" that way... the song is about his heroin dealer... The man
he's so fucking loaded what an awesome video
I am very sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences, I am a mum as well, I cannot imagine the pain. I wish you strength.
Martine
they were good 'cause they were geniuses. not 'cause they took heroin.
BlueO - if that is the May 1974 concert, then I would be interested to record it if possible
What you doing UPTOWN?!
UPTOWN!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, here comes Glam Rock...
@ovomusic
Steve Hunter on lead and Prakash John on bass
Lou in his full-funky-sally-can't-dance phase! Surely 'smacked' to the tilt!
Nope earlier
@@solarpower7581 sorry, but it says "(Paris) 1974" that's his blonde SCD-phase...
That was his funky period. Check out all his 74 live footage.
This song appeared 1967 on the first VU album...
Only 38 years ago

Amphetamines.
This is post VU
WOW I love this version. it trumps the demo version
Who is killing it on guitar???
Speed and cocaine alcohol and rock and roll
I only smoke weed but I'm guessing that's what he was on...a long time ago
@indio77777 Well, you did call him a fairy so I did not see it as anything other than a lack of understanding of the lyrics.

4:39 "I'm feeling good, I'm feeling so fine," but his hands are visibly shaking. Heart-wrenching.
Heart wrenching how do you figure that he's smashed and having a good time ? I really don't know where you people get these crazy ideas from.
@@TelecasterLPGTop Having a good time is having a good time. The end. He's doing just that.
@visionfirst1970 It was simply a 'tongue in cheek' comment based on the way he was moving. No offence taken, suitably peaced out, cheers.

Punk began with the Sex Pistols. Before that there was New York,...and Hawkwind!
what a genius
Pretty sure Lou got a bump just before he went on....lol.
You mean "Take Me to the River" sounds like "I'm Waiting For the Man" written a few years prior to Byrnes' tune.
Twenty-Six Dollars in my hand bought a big bag of smack back in '67 when he wrote this.
Mule sez ' leave Lou alone -pry the best rocker of the time
This straight boy thinks that Lou was one sexy man - and a great singer.
My son, Christopher William Atwood, waited for the man many times. The last time cost him his life this year 2013 at the tender age of 21. I miss him every freakin' second.
❤️❤️❤️
21 is young. Try doing it in your 30s
He found him long ago on that dirty corner on Lexington, Nice comment. I agree Lou is watching over us.
haha LOU IS GOD .... hahah re: the 'high" comments lol funny lol
j étais à ce concert à l olympia on pouvait à cette époque fumer le tarpé devant la scène !et on en est pas morts!
his man is his dealer and the 26 dollars is for a wrap mate
@Bobjb999 Thanks for putting a sensible perspective on this.
I dry my undies by holding them out the window of my car while I speed through school zones.
Dry undies are more important than the lives of a few dozen brats.
Procommenter WHAT DA FUNK?! 😂
Wow...the Talking Heads aped this one for 'Take Me to the River.
Being a jerk is never cool.
SO HIGH.
From every point of view.
