Always great fun to watch your joyful analysis when the artist is a world-class talent. In this case, you have two of the very best, and the absolute love on your face was like a radiant sun, lighting up the entire day!! It's even more fun when these two very dear friends perform like two young girls playing in the sandbox. Doesn't hurt that they are creating art at it's highest level, nor that they are singing in front of a virtuoso band and incredible orchestra. Floor, being very familiar with the musicians, having been in After Forever with Mark Jansen before her days with Nightwish, is very comfortable. Simone and Floor are each so generous sharing the spotlight, deftly handing it back and forth, as wonderful friends would do. You are a true joy to watch, please know that, and please don't apologize for pausing ... that's why we tune in ... we've all heard the song at least a thousand times. You are new seasoning to a very pleasurable feast of music.
If Ayreon is recommended, I would decide for something with the angelic voices of Maggy Luyten, Marcela Bovio, Anneke van Giersbergen and Irene Jansen. like in 'Everybody Dies"

Retrospect 10th anniversary concert 2013 The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands on March 23rd, 2013 at the Klokgebouw and was sold out. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March, 4th 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre. The expanded ensemble mostly played Epica songs, including a whole new song called Retrospect, especially written for this live show with the same name. Like on The Classical Conspiracy, Epica played some classical music, excerpts from operas and movie soundtracks, however not as many as on the aforementioned show.
GOOD REACTION. We love Floor and Simone as well. Floor never misses to deliver. One of the very best vocalist of our time. And stage presence, power, and, and, ….on top level
Floor did one more duet with Simone at this concert called "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" with just the orchestra. Simone sings the soprano and Floor the tenor. The metal fans are blown away and very respectful of this classic. There is a rather long (beautiful) string intro to this song that makes you almost feel Pergolesi's pain while he was composing his last piece th-cam.com/video/nhtOORYTGx8/w-d-xo.html
I love your reactions. And please, break it down as much as you want/can. Your opinion is valid imo. The best kind of nerds are musical nerds. I can pretty much get what you're feeling by just watching your facial expressions as you watch the band. I can't wait for your channel to pop more, because you deserve it.
2:19, you see how Simone switched to mixed voice after that classical head voice? You said in a later video that you don’t remember her switching back-and-forth, but she does it the whole time here.
LOVED your reaction to this piece! Don't worry about pausing too much through the video - what you say during those pauses is lovely. Believe it or not, in this same metal concert they performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater Dolorosa, just the orchestral strings, Floor and Simone. It's glorious!
Something about Floor's voice just makes me smile, no matter what genre, solo or harmonizing, hard or soft, high or low, just perfection to my ears. No matter who she sings with, and I have seen her sing with all types, she is just complimentary to the harmony and the music.
Floors sound is just comforting and like mother singing to her child. And at the same time it is like "yes. i knew she can do that and more and im proud of her being a friend to her audience."
Great reaction Bethany! I'm really becoming enamored with Symphonic Metal and that is, in large part, due to reactors such as yourself and others. You are exposing me to groups I have never listened to before and I thank you! I will have to check out more by Epica.
Do check out Within Temptation and Delain while you're at it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed! Those are really the big four (together with Floor and Simone) when it comes to Dutch female fronted symphonic metal.
I would give Simone some credit as she was three months pregnant at this concert. However having heard Floor perform at a Christmas Concert when six months pregnant it was amazing.
Ayreon, the gateway where it all comes together… Floor, Simone, Anneke, Sharon, Marcela (and dozens more of the best voices) they all participated on Ayreon albums and/or concerts. Suggestions: - The day that the world breaks down (11!! amazing voices in one song) - The eye of Ra (Floor and her sister Irene) - Valley of the queens (great harmonies)
I really love this duet but Epica (and Simone) is so much more than this. If you want to discover Epica and Simone's voice more you should really check out: - Design your Universe (Retrospect live) - Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect live) - Unchain Utopia (Omega Alive) - The Skeleton Key (Omega Alive) - The Essence of Silence (Official live) - Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith) - Beyond the Matrix (Live at the Zenith) - Kingdom of Heaven part 3 (Omega Alive) - Rivers - Tides of Time - Once Upon a Nightmare If you want to see and hear a younger Simone: - Cry for the Moon (From the We Will Take You With Us dvd) - The Phantom Agony (Also from that dvd) Epica recently released to official live videos from their unreleased live dvd 'Road to Paradiso (2006)': Sensorium and The Last Crusade.
What a cool, genuine reaction! Loved your takes and facial expressions. You mentioned how much floors voice and mis resonates with your body. That is a great description. I've often said her voice touches your soul. Keep up the great work.
“I trust her voice” is probably one of the best ways to describe how I think about Floor’s singing as well. It’s just a intangible feeling as a result of so many things. If you want to get into another side of it you should checkout ‘How’s The Heart’ or ‘Nemo’ from the Planet Rock acoustic session. Her a Troy only. A nice bonus option would be to do a double feature video: Nemo from Wacken 2013 and Nemo from Planet Rock (2020 I believe). It’s amazing to see how a big epic symphonic metal song can be reduced to a simple but amazing acoustic song.
I love this recording, it was a special show for Epica celebrating 10 years, I find Simones voice a little brighter and Floor has a fuller tone to her voice, both fantastic singers. For me Floor is the preferred singer, though I love Epica as well
Floor has the advantage of a much bigger oral space to create resonance and projection with a darker tonality. As you stated "A beautiful mixed voice". Loved it!
This is such a powerful duet, two of my favourite metal singers. I still can't get over the fact that pregnant Simone was there just rocking it, and yep, gotta love them Floor mixes
Hi! I like your reaction! You know exactly what you are talking about and it's very interesting listen to it. I hope you look in one of your next reactions an EPICA song only with Simone and her band, maybe the song "The Skeleton Key" or "Kingdom of Heaven Part 3" from the virtual "EPICA - OMEGA ALIVE" show they did last year. I buy that DVD for myself at last Christmas. The whole show is an absolute Masterpiece! I'm 100% sure you also would like that show! They played live but they needed 5 days to film this live conzert. I really love this conzert. I'm looking forward for your next NW reaction! Bye!
Hi Bethany, here is a song from EPICA which is right up to date, footage from their 2022 tour, this is another song with a Middle Eastern feel, something that EPICA are known for EPICA - CODE OF LIFE (VIDEO) link posted below
This Epica show 'Retrospect' lasted for over 3 hours! Simone kept up those high soaring notes whole evening singing her hear out while also beeing pregnant for about 3 months. She has got the brightest tone indeed!
Usually, I don't have any interest in people's evaluation of other's music. I just want to listen to the music, buuuut. I have to mention that I love to see your reactions and explanations because you transmit this alive vibe that makes me want to watch all your videos. You got another subscriber just for you being you. Love the channel.
"Two goddesses rock out together!" They have known each other quite a while, you can tell :) You heard their voices swap across each other? Mark, with the growly voice was in the band After Forever, with Floor earlier.
We, all of us seeing you, know the song and seen the video countless times. We are here to see YOU! First out of curiosity, and from then on, out of interest and admiration. You do a GREAT job bringing our attention over the singing techniques and special moments that most of us (me certainly) would not be unable to pick up. I hope you continue this journey with Floor and Simone, I will listen! Hopping you do pause more than you do now… please?
I’m a bit late on the scene, glad you found time to watch this; it’s just epic! Nice reaction to it, you just nailed it with the analysis of their voices! Bear it in mind that Simone was expecting at the time, this was the main reason for getting Floor in to help out. They are very good friends, they both enjoy singing together, this always helps them to gel and make the best job of it. Am I the only one who would like to hear Floor and Simone sing the Flowers duet? I just think that it would be amazing!
I think that Floor adapts his singing to Simon's style and because the song is from Epica. Congratulation for your analysis. When you do it to "Poet and the Pendulum" of Nightwish then you need know you must know the hard and sad context of Thomas's life during that period. I cry every time that I heard it.
Naw.. thats BS. The song is best when people have their own thoughts and feelings... How tiring it would be to look up back stories to songs you like. and most of the time it will ruin it cos thats not what you felt when you heard it. Stop pushing that BS about poet and pendulum.
@@shrike6259 I think that the context of art piece is important. I understand your point it's good but when you know the contex of an artist then you can look at other level and then you can understand the metàfores and you can enjoy more...but it is not an obligation it is only my opinion. Others song of NW are more easy and the contex is not as important. Best regards.
Those people in the audience were so lucky I mean they had a true treat that night full orchestra on stage a full choir and then you add floor in as well and wow I am so jealous. I wish I could’ve been there.
A really great, very detailed breakdown. I like that you point out things like Floor's 'Squeak,' because I hadn't noticed it the times I've watched said video. If you want to see Floor's much more aggressive side, check-out Disdain, live at Graspop, 2010, from her previous band ReVamp. It's a, completely, different vibe. Best, and thanks for this review! J!
Now you need to review them singing Stabat Mater Dolorosa from the same concert. Given your singing background, I am sure you know that piece. I'm really interested to get your take on that with Simone and Floor.
Two Queens singing together, this performance is magnificent, Simone is as gorgeous as she is talented 💕 her voice is sweet, compared to Floor's approach, it is harder, but when they sing together they sound amazing, plus the orchestra, plus the headbanging, is heaven for metalheads and symphonic metal fans
If you're into a little classical music too...Floor and Simone did another duet at this very concert - it's 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa' by Pergolesi. An extraordinary piece of music written a couple of weeks before he died. Very emotive indeed. Love your reactions. Take care of yourself 😃
I knew this would be a great reaction. I love this song. There's a band called Soilwork & they get Floor up for a song called Let This River Flow. You get to see Floor with a male voice and.....a growl off! It's really good
I just found your channel today so I'm quite new here but i must say my favorite part with your videos is the pauses. The pauses helps me as a person who knows absolutely nothing about singing understand what's going on. If i didn't want the pauses I'd watch the original video. Don't be afraid of the pause button!
EPICA 🤘🤘🤘 Awesome you took a peek at them😁 Please do look some more, e.g.: Essence of Silence; Beyond the Matrix; Unleashed; Chasing the Dragon; Design your Universe; Consign to Oblivion; Skeleton Key; Kingdom of Heaven Pt.3 &c.
The original guitarist of After forever formed Epica Floor's ex band and Simone was once Floor's roomate and are good friends. Nightwish also has toured with Epica.
Great Reaction! These two women together are magical. Epica doesn't usually have the Orchestra on stage with them. This was a special concert called Retrospect where they were celebrating the band being together for 10 years. I watched your reaction to Floor and Henk singing The Phantom of the Opera on Beste Zangers 2019 and that was great. I have a recommendation for you to react to a woman from the same show, but in 2018. Her name is Maria Fiselier and she did a cover of Eminem's song Lose Yourself from the movie 8 Mile and she did a great job on that song, but I watched another video she did and it was a song called il mondo and yes, she is an Opera Singer. I was blown away when I heard her sing this song, which I believe was in Italian. From the comments they said Opera is what she does for a living and she is very, very good. The video is titled "Maria Fiselier - il mondo Beste Zangers 2018" if you want to react to her singing.
Love your reactions! Love your genuineness! and of course your expertise. You have the same reaction I did when I first heard NW and Floor...I would read all this about 'Floor-gasm' so I found out. Going through the NW journey in finding other similar bands and artists. And one of those artists is Aurora. Her studio version of It Happened Quiet. Also a great example of vocal control and technique. Anyone of, 'Warrior', 'Conqueror', 'Through the eyes of a child'.
From the same concert, please do "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" and hear Floor sing the Contralto part, or maybe it's a Messo part . She's just amazing to be able to go that low.
Yes, great duet with Simone and Floor. Also, welcome to Epica's music. There are more great performances by Epica in this Retrospective concert with the orchestra & choir. Epica - Design Your Universe comes to mind.
i watch a couple of your video and i really enjoy it ! thank you , the way you discover all my young metal band just refresh my vison of it was a really nice experience thx again lol you even bring me here i certainly never will without you . i've got a request if you can only see my message,i'm just beging you to listen some song from the mars volta and if with some luck some off it touch you please do a vidéo on it! sorry for my english i'm french .
Great reaction. Your analysis brought so much to my understanding and enjoyment of this performance. Seen this reacted to a bunch of times but this is one of the best and truly insightful. For more of Simone's beautiful singing I would recommend Unleashed, Design Your Universe, or Chasing the Dragon from this same concert. For a different side of her voice, one of their beautiful ballads, such as Rivers (official music video, th-cam.com/video/3rW7Vpep3II/w-d-xo.html) or Tides of Time (th-cam.com/video/sn765tJuaoE/w-d-xo.html).
If you like Floor singing with other great vocalists I would recommend "Valley of the Queens" from the Ayreon Universe concert. Three voices blending perfectly. th-cam.com/video/TbebO5BZi-I/w-d-xo.html
Most definitely. It is a crime that Arjen made that song so short but the Universe version with Floor (our metal valkyrie), Anneke (the god mother of Dutch metal), & Marcela (the mistress of harmonies) is superb.
I too would have liked it to be longer. I think that about a number of the songs, but I suppose he was trying to pack in as much as possible and the concert as a whole was amazing.
And speaking of Ayreon, I think "The Day That The World Breaks Down" is long overdue for a reaction! 😊 It is an awesome masterpiece with 11 main singers!
Pelegose has written it for a Soprano+ Countertenor/ so they give it from one to the other what their voices can do! Also Floor doesnt want to overmatch Simone/ they are friends since Colleg+ Floor was also a while her Voiceteacher.❤
I'm at the age of not finding new music. You helped me put some of the old cliches to bed. I love Epica. Never heard of Floor (outside of Nightwish). Thank You
very good reaction .....i love Epica ....more plz .....Epica is much harder than Nightwish and this is not a typical song from Epica is more a komerz song from they
Great reaction, because I agree with everything you said! 😉 I love this symphonic metal genre, as a Rock -N - Roll girl, that loves symphony, & just the operatic sound that Floor does. I like some Opera, but know I could never make through a full Opera, mainly because after awhile too much bravado gets on my nerves, LOL, but sliding around from head voice to mix, with some distortion, with lots of power that Floor brings is perfect. It’s why Tarja isn’t for me, her voice stays in that same operatic area too long, without the power that Floor has. I love Simone, & I agree she does more of the operatic head voice, & she doesn’t seem to drop into that warm sound you describe of Floor’s! They both were at Hellfest two weeks ago, I expect they had some fun together. You might want to play a song or two of them with their bands from that concert. Would be interested in what you think of “Noise”, & Tribal by Nightwish.
I disagree. TARJA also goes back-and-forth between the two styles. She’s not always in operatic mode. I have a whole playlist of examples showing her different styles.
I also have no idea what you’re talking to talking about when you say TARJA doesn’t have as much power as floor… Is the exact opposite as someone who has dove in to both of their catalogues in full. Most of you Tarja critics haven’t even seen TARJA outside of Nightwish. But even her work with Nightwish, her voice sounds much more powerful in her classical voice than floor’s own. Floor is a better contemporary singer, that is it. But both women are versatile.
And if you wanna argue with me the reactor HERE even said that Floor’s voice is very light in operatic head voice compared to Simone… She keeps her head voice very light… So how could it be more powerful than TARJA?
Great reaction, if you are wanting to hear Epica and Simone singing something seriously beautiful, try listening to "Chasing the Dragon" and or "Tides of Time"
I really like this song a lot and Floor and Simone together are just awesome. And this song is also a great "gate opener" for Epica-reactions. But it is not a "typical" Epica song / performance. I'd suggest "Consign to Oblivion" live from the Zenith next.
Yes, Floor's transitions from mix to head voice are more seamless... except when she doesn't want them to be like at 4:11 here: th-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/w-d-xo.html She does anything she wants.
Floor & Simone doing full on operatic style harmonies, is pure ear candy. Simone is more pure classical, where floor as we all know can mix many colors/styles of vocal technique.
They are truly singing goddesses. Epica is normally a bit harder in sound than Nightwish. I would highly recommend one of their latest releases, Kingdom of Heaven, Part 3 from the virtual concert, Omega Alive. Simone shows off more of what she can do.
When the analysis is this good, the pauses don't matter; you will love their interpretation of Stabat Mater Dolorosa

You should definitely check “The day that the world breaks down” from Ayreon - you’ll have 11 main singers in it to compare 😁

Hi Bethany, here is a song from EPICA which is right up to date, footage from their 2022 tour, this is another song with a Middle Eastern feel, something that EPICA are known for
EPICA - CODE OF LIFE (VIDEO) link posted below

Fascinating analysis of singers and song. Thank You! ✨
This Epica show 'Retrospect' lasted for over 3 hours! Simone kept up those high soaring notes whole evening singing her hear out while also beeing pregnant for about 3 months. She has got the brightest tone indeed!
Your Nightwish/Floor journey is one of my favorite things in life right now!
Usually, I don't have any interest in people's evaluation of other's music. I just want to listen to the music, buuuut. I have to mention that I love to see your reactions and explanations because you transmit this alive vibe that makes me want to watch all your videos. You got another subscriber just for you being you. Love the channel.
"Two goddesses rock out together!"
They have known each other quite a while, you can tell :)
You heard their voices swap across each other?
Mark, with the growly voice was in the band After Forever, with Floor earlier.
We, all of us seeing you, know the song and seen the video countless times. We are here to see YOU!
First out of curiosity, and from then on, out of interest and admiration.
You do a GREAT job bringing our attention over the singing techniques and special moments that most of us (me certainly) would not be unable to pick up.
I hope you continue this journey with Floor and Simone, I will listen! Hopping you do pause more than you do now… please?
Seeing you reacting to this made me very happy as well 🙂
I’m a bit late on the scene, glad you found time to watch this; it’s just epic!
The video of them at Simons home, promoting a concert where they sing together, is fun.
Such a great reaction, i can't stop watching you smile and smile as well xD
Floor:Queen of the Mix
Rock Opera is the greatest thing most music heads never expected. It's soooooo good. :)
Such intelligent analysis, ...... Thank you, you're awesome!
I love your reaction because your passion of your work shows on your smile 😊
I love watching the excitement in your eyes and the beautiful smile that never leaves your face. Well done, excellent reaction!!
Love your your reactions on Floor, now with Epica.
Now you need to review them singing Stabat Mater Dolorosa from the same concert. Given your singing background, I am sure you know that piece. I'm really interested to get your take on that with Simone and Floor.
I love how when Floor and Simone sings back to back sometimes and rotate Simone completely disappeareds 😆🤣
Another fantastic review Bethany, thank you 😄
So good in fact, I think that I will watch it again.....just one more time! 🤣
I love Simone!!!
I believe Simone was 3mths pregnant @ the time of this concert. Rock!!
Infectious joy Bethany. What a treat !
I knew this would be a great reaction. I love this song.
There's a band called Soilwork & they get Floor up for a song called Let This River Flow. You get to see Floor with a male voice and.....a growl off! It's really good
Enjoy Simone's voice with their other songs as well, oh and RIVERS KICKS IT!!! Her voice is beautiful!!
I just found your channel today so I'm quite new here but i must say my favorite part with your videos is the pauses. The pauses helps me as a person who knows absolutely nothing about singing understand what's going on. If i didn't want the pauses I'd watch the original video. Don't be afraid of the pause button!
As i always say,... this is how i imagine the mermaids singing would sound to drive people so crazy.... its so beautiful in so many levels!
EPICA 🤘🤘🤘
Awesome you took a peek at them😁
Please do look some more, e.g.: Essence of Silence; Beyond the Matrix; Unleashed; Chasing the Dragon; Design your Universe; Consign to Oblivion; Skeleton Key; Kingdom of Heaven Pt.3 &c.
Loved the reaction. keep listening to the end, sometimes there are some easter-eggs hidden in the last seconds.
Your smile says it all.
Yes, great duet with Simone and Floor. Also, welcome to Epica's music. There are more great performances by Epica in this Retrospective concert with the orchestra & choir. Epica - Design Your Universe comes to mind.
Epica also includes the Orchestra and Choirs in many of their live performances
I love your reaction, thanks for that besos desde CHILE.
awsome reaction as usual, and your smile is so pretty, kisses from south of france
If Floor after 3 songs is one of your favorites, listen a bit more and she'll become your favorite by a mile.
Essence of Silence is a great track from Epica. A lot of different types of vocals in that one.
i watch a couple of your video and i really enjoy it ! thank you , the way you discover all my young metal band just refresh my vison of it was a really nice experience thx again lol you even bring me here i certainly never will without you . i've got a request if you can only see my message,i'm just beging you to listen some song from the mars volta and if with some luck some off it touch you please do a vidéo on it! sorry for my english i'm french .
There is some very AWESOME drum work going on as well! 😎
If you like Floor singing with other great vocalists I would recommend "Valley of the Queens" from the Ayreon Universe concert. Three voices blending perfectly. th-cam.com/video/TbebO5BZi-I/w-d-xo.html
I concur
Most definitely. It is a crime that Arjen made that song so short but the Universe version with Floor (our metal valkyrie), Anneke (the god mother of Dutch metal), & Marcela (the mistress of harmonies) is superb.
I too would have liked it to be longer. I think that about a number of the songs, but I suppose he was trying to pack in as much as possible and the concert as a whole was amazing.
And speaking of Ayreon, I think "The Day That The World Breaks Down" is long overdue for a reaction! 😊
It is an awesome masterpiece with 11 main singers!
Thank You
very good reaction .....i love Epica ....more plz .....Epica is much harder than Nightwish and this is not a typical song from Epica is more a komerz song from they
Bethany you're so cute and I love watching your analysis of all these great artists! Take care and happy singing! 🙂
Try Bartok's "Bluebeard's Castle". Fairly short, amazing music, and different subject matter.
@@alanfoster6589 thanks, will look it up, haven’t heard of that.
The choir is the sherry in the top of the cake in this song!
I heard the squeak-fry for the first time never caught it before ty...... Floor and Simone are best friends from way back just some Info >>>>>>>>>>>>>
