As I heard it, Floor auditioned for a back-up singer slot with a metal cover band (whose name I know but can't remember right now). Not only did they hire her, they put her out front, changed their name ( to After Forever). and started doing originals.
Simone was three months pregnant during this concert ..... not quite sure how much that would affect her vocals, but her headbanging sure was restrained. A nice follow up would be "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" by Pergolesi from this same concert ..... Floor and Simone going full blast classical in this early 19th century hymn with only the orchestra.
While I love this piece, IMO the better of the two Floor performed with them at that concert was Sabat Mater Dolorosa, in which Floor sings the alto part while Simone sings the soprano. Absolute class and a rock audience completely silenced to hear every note and nuance. You also get a hint of Floor's training and class in that at the end she properly acknowledges the conductor, orchestra and choir, as well as the band. You can also see it in this, as it is Floor who is lofting her voice (some of the time - it is one of the choices she makes to add colour to her voice) while Simone uses the wider voice throughout. But above all, huge shoutout to the audio techs who must have put in well over a normal day of work setting up, checking and balancing all the channels and grouping them sensibly so they could be mixed live. to cope with everything from hard and heavy death metal to the pure sound you would expect of Sabat Mater. With every choral singer and instrument (down to each drum and cymbal) on a different channel, and the lead vocalists on a pair each for spacial movement, that must have been a humungous operation! Oh, and Simone was a bit restrained in her normal headbanging, as she was 3 months pregnant.
@@jamestnov41945 The sheer number of channels means they must have had to balance them as multi-layered groups for realtime control - say "orchestra", "choir", "percussion", "band", "lead vocals" with subgoups withing (for example) orchestra for "strings", brass", "woodwind", etc. Then each instrument type in that section - "1st violins", "2nd violns", "violas", "cellos", "basses", then each instrument individually. I'm amazed that they managed to do all the soundchecks in one day - it must have been well north of 150 channels. And you have to set it all up before you can even start on sound checks.
My aunty was an operatic singer, when growing up my dad played golf with a bunch of people from lots of different nationality's and on Saturday's nights, they would sit around and sing songs(also using whatever could be find to make sound). She seemed to have a ball from trying songs from other nations(Irish, Welsh, English, Italian, Greek) and experimenting with the sounds and pronunciations of words. She fell in love with ABBA, Meatloaf, and Queen after hearing me play some of their songs. She spent countless hours, trying to help me learn to sing better(RIP Aunty I'm sure you would have loved this)
@@maggiereneemusic Be warned about windmilling, though. Tarja Turunen has said that it has permanently damaged her neck due incorrect windmilling technique.
If you notice Floor puts her hands on her thighs when windmilling to provide support. I am sure she has some comments somewhere about doing that safely. Check her TH-cam channel.
If you want more, then I advise you to do Somewhere by Within Temptation ft Anneke van Giersbergen. If you will more Floor then do a reaction on Euphoria that she did at De Beste Zangers Eurovision song contest special. If you see that video and you see the lady with the blue dress her name is Tania Kross she's a opera singer and did at the Beste Zangers 2018 a wonderful duet with Tommie Christiaan . They did Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Cabballe.
The man who shouts "Floor Jansen" at the end with a growling voice is Mark Jansen (no family relation). Both he and Floor were together in a band called After Forever in the 90s/early 2000s until Mark was dismissed from the band due to creative differences. He went on to found Epica (then called Sahara Dust) with his girlfriend at the time - Simone. Simone and Floor are close friends and have been for years - this is why they have such good chemistry on stage. Mark and Simone are no longer a couple, but they still work very well together. Simone is married with Oliver Polotai, the keyboards player of another metal band : Kamelot (in fact she was pregnant during this show which is why she didn't headbang as violently as Floor xD ) . Very early Epica (then named Sahara Dust) was in fact Kamelot's support band during their Epica tour (from their namesake album), and it is from Kamelot's Epica album title that the name of band comes from. Kamelot was the support band during Nightwish's 2012 Imaginaerum US tour, during which then-Nightwish-vocalist Anette Olzon fell ill minutes before their Denver show. Kamelot's session vocalists Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz covered for Anette and the show went on while she was hospitalized. Nightwish's decision to go forward with the show upset Anette and she publicly criticized the band on her blog. This was the last straw in Anette's and Nightwish's already troubled relationship and days later, the band fired her, with Floor acting as her replacement for the remainder of the tour. We know the rest of the story. Elize Ryd was also considered by Nightwish as a vocalist - way back in 2005 when they fired their first vocalist, Tarja Turunen. They thought Elize was too young and inexperienced at the time and went with Anette instead. Elize went on to found her own band, Amaranthe. Unrelated to this, on their first album with Anette, Nightwish released a song titled Amaranth. Is your head spinning yet? XD
I heard a classical singer say that her pregnancy gave her more range in singing. Not sure why that happened or if that is common, just found it interesting.

@@maggiereneemusic Heck I'd tune in just to watch your Dutch Windmill. Think you're really getting the hang of it. I've noticed that Floor leans over and always puts her hands on both legs. If you've seen any other Floor Jansen duet/colab videos, you usually find yourself saying, "Wow, their voices match perfectly!" Or "so well" or "It's amazing how good their voices sound together. Floor morphed her voice to sound just like Simone. She is a voice chameleon. Not my words but from Suite Clarity, metal band. Great reaction as always 😁😁😁
A little nugget of knowledge: The Connection of Floor Jansen & Epica. After Forever was originally assembled in 1995, under the name Apocalypse. Floor Jansen was sixteen when she joined Apocalypse (later known as After Forever) in 1997. They were originally a death metal cover band with harsh male vocals. With the joining of vocalist Floor Jansen in 1997, their style and sound shifted towards symphonic gothic metal. In 2002 Mark Jansen, one of the main composers and founder of the band, was fired from After Forever. He then began looking for musicians who would work towards a more classical/symphonic type of music project; this was initially named Sahara Dust. In late 2002, the band courted Helena Michaelsen (from Trail of Tears) as its frontwoman, but shortly after she was replaced by the then unknown Simone Simons, who was Jansen's girlfriend at the time. The name was later changed to Epica, inspired by Kamelot's album of the same name.

And saw a short mention of the start of Epica was with the singer Helena, this was when the band was still called Sahara Dust (but Simone was asked to sing and the name changed to Epica, saw one of their very first gigs, man has Simone grows in quality and power!). Arien van Weesenbeek, the drummer, has been hitting things since he was 3yo. Forks and spoons on the furniture mostly - until he (quickly) found his dad's drumkit! 🥁 Please react to "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" from the same concert? 🤘

Thank you for your comment. Did you enjoy my latest reaction video to Metallica?
@@maggiereneemusic yes I did.
James as a vocalist is an interesting one.
Metallica is in my top 5 favourite bands of all time. He's not a perfect or skilled vocalist but he's perfect for the band and that's all that matters. I did really love your reaction to my MOST FAVOURITE BAND, Type O Negative. Even if you don't do a video..listen to Nettie by TON. Pete's range will really blow you away.
😍
Aperfect next Epica song for reaction is "Consign to Oblivion" from "The Zenith" in Paris. A masterpiece and epic as hell.
Finally someone bringing something new to reaction video. Maggie, keep doing videos adorable like this One.

Epica has so many gems, same goes for After Forever and then there is Within Temptation of course. And saw a short mention of the start of Epica was with the singer Helena, this was when the band was still called Sahara Dust (but Simone was asked to sing and the name changed to Epica, saw one of their very first gigs, man has Simone grows in quality and power!). Helena was former singer of Trail of Tears, listen to that! Crashing Down or Fate Sealed in Red are fantastic :) Catherine has a lovely voice, you will like it with a clean vocals, grunt and lady, so 3 voices in one band!

Definitely "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" from the same concert - Floor and Simone singing a Latin hymn composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in 1736 . Floor took on the alto role to Simones' soprano. Total respect and respect from the fans . Just shows how diverse the musical tastes of the symphonic metal fans are. B-E-A-U-TIFUL music to quote a much loved opera singer who hosts this channel.
Hope to see you on my Nightwish Premiere of a new reaction video tomorrow? 🤩
