Good job. However one thing i'd have done is have the gates (the walk in gates) the width of your run, and open in opposite sides, so you can open them up and they block the run leaving a walk through area for you, and you don't have to worry about closing each gate behind you ... until you're done with whatever you need to do in the orchard.
So 2x 6 foot gates, making the opening 12 feet when gates are open, but it blocks the chicken run. Can change dimensions to accommodate a vehicle passing through.
The fencing looks absolutely fantastic and I love this chicken run!! You could rotate animals also with it....or if you needed to isolate a heifer and calf, or a bull....there are many possibilities! You guys should be very proud of all that hard work!! Congratulations ❤
We love our fence stricter , helped out a ton. Thank you for stopping in time for Church,, when you put things in proper prospective, things work. And in my opinion Church is a must. And it shows that it is with y'all too.😀

The saying is work smarter not harder😜. No matter, still alot of work, nice job and pretty smart to utilize the fencing for a chicken run, which I'm sure will make them happy. Be blessed. 😊🇺🇸
I am 82 year old widow and obviously am done farming :) but I learned so much with these new fences and fitting parts. It used to be HE## to put up fences! Plus...looks great! I agree with your decision to do your own fence instead of having it done! Farming is your business and the more money you can keep through do-it-yourself the more successful you are. (There'll be enough emergencies you have no control over that will cost you.) It is also wise to consider which tools to buy, which to rent. My first thought was to rent the post driver, but when I heard the price I too would have purchased it. You will need it enough in years to come! The double fence is interesting and it should work. You may get a few young ones in there at the beginning but they won't look for food! They will want to get out and won't do it again! Deer are smart. When we figured out their highway through our 20 acres from the forest to the open plains we learned to keep that grassy and open. They never lingered or veered off and we had twice daily the herd going through.....as the farmer's friends and a great side-show. We felt we owed that to them because we also hunted our share for meat. Thank you, I love your always interesting videos.. You are heaven-send in these times of constant tribulations.
I know it is a seemingly small thing, but THANK YOU for normalizing PPE. Seeing you wearing not just gloves, but the earmuffs as well made me so happy!
I agree! ...and don't forget eye protection when working around the sharp ends of fencing wire. Nothing inspires you to be cautious like being on a jobsite/farm after someone is hurt or dies from a construction accident. (Personal experience)
Mother Earth News had an article about a chicken 🐓 run around someone's garden. It was 6-8' high, had a compost pile on the inside with chicken access and a culvert under the gate for a chicken tunnel. The garden had fruit trees and blackberries in it. Great idea and another great video from you 😊.
I read that article a while back. This year is the first chance I've had to do that to my garden. Going to have chickens during the day, and dogs at night.
My wife and I have always done everything together, remodel houses, built houses, cleared land, built fences and gardens. We are getting older and don't take on many big tasks anymore but we are still each other's best friend and helpmate.
You have both been so very fortunate. I never found that helpmate in my life. But I am doing pretty good with just little abandoned dogs and kitties and a huge garden in Tuscany. Lonely but others have t much worse. Always talk to each other. Namaste
Watching you work together and putting together a system that works to each of your strengths is so joyful to watch. Your partnership is what brings me back for every vlog. If I had a farm I’d pray for a partnership like yours.
This will work. We have a deer farm in my area and since i can rememeber (40+ years) they had double fences and no deer ever escaped from there. Your Fence looks great and you guys are amazing, you got so much done.
You guys are amazing! The freeze dryer, the weed fabric and now this. This is the 3rd idea I am getting from you guys. I already have enough extra stakes and fencing to pull this off. When this is done I am going to have to start going through all your old videos to see what I have missed! :) Keep up the great work.
How very exciting to see this! I have not started a garden in my new place because I couldn't figure out how to keep the deer out without spending a fortune. You're brilliant and blessed while being a blessing!
My daddy used his tractor with bucket to install fence posts. He set the bucket on top of the post then lowered the bucket to drive the post in. He was still building fence in his late 80's.
Yes we use our tractor to push down t posts as the ground here is just too hard. It also does not take long to build a fence. We also use it to pull t posts up as well by using a rope tied to the bucket and then tying it to the t post.
I’ve got two distinct packs. My herding dogs go out around 7 am...the two pyrs go in for the day to sleep and keep cool. Then I have change of the guard in the evening. Herding dogs go in then the two Pyrs have night patrol. It keeps everyone healthy! Great video!
That chicken run idea is awesome!!!! I can't believe how much the quotes were for installation. Can't wait to see the orchard finished and the chickens out there!

I hate to disappoint but the chickens can still get through this field fence as well as predators through the larger holes. They figure it out that if they go higher they can go right through. It is fixed by attaching hardware cloth or chicken wire to the fence. Then they can't get through the larger holes in the fence.
Wow you guys are amazing! All of your projects are done with so much skill and thoughtfulness! It show the incredible amount of passion and love you have for your life! 💕💕💕💕💕💕
Once your trees are established I would let the chickens into the orchard. Great for fertilizing and keeping bugs under control. Brilliant job you guys! You are always impressive! Won't hawks be able to fly in, perch on the fence, then easily kill & devour a chicken? I've got 2 huge hawks that do that daily behind my home to catch frogs between the 6ft. wood stockade fence & the chain link fence that surrounds the drainage pond. These two fences are 5-6 feet apart. Hope it doesn't happen to you & be upsetting to discover. Just wanted to share. This method absolutely works on deer crossing!!!!👍

You are my favorite couple on y/t. The way you work together is heartwarming. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives.

There are a bunch of homesteading TH-cam channels out there but your channel is one of the best. In my opinion there are only a very few that I consider the best of the best and your channel is in the top 3 best homestead cha nels I've seen, and I've watched a bunch of different channels! Love you guys. God bless you. Awesome job on the fence and using the “moat” as a chicken run! 😁👍💖💗🙏🎉
That sounds like a great idea. Hope it works
The fence looks awesome. When I saw Sarah driving the tracker all I could think of was " Sarah fell in love with Kevin's big blue tracker. " Happy to see y'all's orchard coming along.
