I have seen three of these Good Will videos, and it appears you live in an area that is affluent considering all the nice items at them, many things not even taken out of the packages. There is nothing but junk at my local Good Wills (hardly worth buying) and other thrift stores. Just recently, there was a written public notice advising the public to stop donating spaghetti jars and recyclable items to them as they have to go through the time and trouble to sort them out, only to have to toss them out. Some of the chairs I saw in the TN Good Wills looked liked something I'd be interested in, and the butterfly plaque was just beautiful--that is something I would buy for myself. Interesting videos.

Just a note to wish you a lovely holiday from NC ! Not as much to pick from here in winston-Salem as opposed to where I moved from in Ct !! but I keep up the Goodwill hunt which stemmed back years ago when I would go with my wealthy aunt in her big car and go to the wonderful hospital thrift shops !! ( Houston..I had a very good friend from KIngwood who had also moved back from Ct about 10 years ago actually her road was one that got that awful flooding 2 years ago and I had word that she had suddenly pass away...she would have been devastated if she had lived and seen the destruction.) Well off to the Goodwill looking for a small tree..... as I have KITTENS this season beautiful long haired trouble starting calicos (long story from our HOA ) Have a good day hunting !!! Claire
Claire, consider a small tabletop tree to avoid cat issues. It’s easier to decorate and store later. Love hearing about memories with your aunt. ☺️ Your friend in Kingwood was definitely spared the flooding. We get that a lot these days in the Houston area. I have the punch bowl that matches the cups your step-mother picked up. I always have a big bunch of Hydrangeas in mine during the warmer weather. In fact, I didn't realize it was a punch bowl at 1st! lol Loved that little entrance table. I have the compote u found for your father in milk glass & it's just beautiful. It would be difficult thrifting for me if flying. U seem to do very well! Merry Christmas to you & yours! 🎄
Punch bowls are the best! Love that you feature hydrangeas when in season. So many possibilities. You could also fill with inexpensive ornaments. I picked up some at the grocery store to fill in my Aztec bowl in the corner of my dining room. For under $10, it has a fun and festive look.
@@LadyMaryBeth Funny u mentioned ornaments. I'm actually usually that same punchbowl to hold the centerpiece for my "Winter Wonderland" themed xmas vignette on my buffet. Everything on there is either silver, crystal or white milk glass. It's just beautiful at night w the lights shining on the faux snow

Back in the day Grandmother had cookies mailed from Neiman Marcus and the dress shop brought selections to her home. She was also a wonderful inspiration.

I walked into an antique mall only to be greeted by my own childhood portraits hanging in a booth! I was floored and mortified! But, I compose myself and left. The seller assured me that I sold quickly for top dollar 0: oh my!
New Sub! I like how this Goodwill used extra strength shrink wrap to keep the sets together. That is a fantastic idea! The ones here in AZ use tape, and it damages the items a lot of the time.

No idea how much the Nordic Track goes for, but I love them. I got mine for free from my dad and paid $10 in auction from Goodwill for another one that isn’t in as good of shape for parts. They were pricey when they were new. I think people use ellipticals now instead. Whatever is trendy. I just know what I like and cheep or free is my kind of price!

Went thrifting Saturday and found a nice Fostoria American vase for my collection and several designer Christmas pieces. Were those wine glasses you looked at Wexford? It's hard to tell with all that Industrial packing tape wrapped all over them. I've had that tape rip the paint right off of stuff I've purchased!

My Goodwill is usually sparse but occasionally will come up with some nice items. I found a lovely elevated tray without the pedestal. Can't remember the name of the pattern but it has the small circular balls along the edge. At 1:38 I think you pointed out a pedestal. I was screaming through the phone to get you to pick it up, LOL! Another stellar shopping trip, Mary Beth! I'm blown away at the quality and variety of items in the Goodwill shops in Tennessee. It's confounding that our Goodwill shops here in Houston are quite miserable. I'm thinking people prefer to give to shops such as Catholic Charity Guild, The Guild Shop, or Blue Bird Circle which, as you have shown, are marvelous places. What do you think? I've watched so many of your videos I can't remember whether or not Goodwill shops north of Houston have more to offer. Merry Christmas, and safe travels!
Houston area Goodwill stores have indeed been disappointing lately. I am thinking you would need to pop in 3-5 times a week to find any gems. The Heights Goodwill on Yale had some great items in November. Got Faberge crystal votives, Marquis by Waterford DOFs, and a lovely set of dishes. Many donate to the high-end charity resales, but they get a lot of consigments, too.
Funny, and sad...... Recently, my neighborhood thrift received someone's crystal bell collection.....every bell was missing it's ringer! (Personally, I think someone got tired of hearing someone else ringing the bells!)

I always brake or damnage something and then I'm heartbroken 🥲🥲🥲 I am italian I visited some thrift shops, but are incredible expensive, and not so interesting... we dont have good will or similars, as far as I know I was really surprised to know about germany, never would had imagined what you explained
Crystal and porcelain cleans up nicely with dish soap and warm water. For hard to reach areas, use a soft toothbrush. I always keep one in my cleaning supplies. For silver plate and sterling, I use Hagerty’s silver spray and polishing gloves.
@@frrusc1 Our Waterford spokeswoman, Jean Moses, always said the kitchen faucet is the #1 killer of crystal. Fill the sink with warm, soapy water and let items soak. Place clean items on a soft towel. At our house, the cats break treasures. 😿 I would say handle with care and dry hands to avoid dropping. Lotions can be a slippery slope. 🧴
I don’t quite understand how your husbands picture was in a frame. You would have removed it before donating I am sure. Also you mentioned this happens to other people and you’re returning something to a mutual friend. Please help me understand how people end up with their picture in frames. In my case, his framed photo was in a box of Christmas items in our attic. We donated and had no idea it was there. This happens more than you would think.
Pressed glass is made using a mold. Many of these are known as EAPG: Early American Pattern Glass. Regular glass is not antique/vintage and is usually without a design. Crystal has lead content and often has a hand-cut pattern.

Franklin is a really nice area. Looks as if local donations remain in the area store. The glassware is especially nice.
I think you are right about that. The Tennessee stores keep the good donations for their stores.
The Nordi Trac is used as if you were snow skiing, so you use your arms and legs to work out! They are not that old🥰
Would definitely keep you in shape. In Germany, Nordic walking is popular. Ever heard of this? We see them with their poles in our forest.

My Goodwill is usually sparse but occasionally will come up with some nice items. I found a lovely elevated tray without the pedestal. Can't remember the name of the pattern but it has the small circular balls along the edge. At 1:38 I think you pointed out a pedestal. I was screaming through the phone to get you to pick it up, LOL! Another stellar shopping trip, Mary Beth! I'm blown away at the quality and variety of items in the Goodwill shops in Tennessee. It's confounding that our Goodwill shops here in Houston are quite miserable. I'm thinking people prefer to give to shops such as Catholic Charity Guild, The Guild Shop, or Blue Bird Circle which, as you have shown, are marvelous places. What do you think? I've watched so many of your videos I can't remember whether or not Goodwill shops north of Houston have more to offer. Merry Christmas, and safe travels!
Houston area Goodwill stores have indeed been disappointing lately. I am thinking you would need to pop in 3-5 times a week to find any gems. The Heights Goodwill on Yale had some great items in November. Got Faberge crystal votives, Marquis by Waterford DOFs, and a lovely set of dishes. Many donate to the high-end charity resales, but they get a lot of consigments, too.

Crystal and porcelain cleans up nicely with dish soap and warm water. For hard to reach areas, use a soft toothbrush. I always keep one in my cleaning supplies. For silver plate and sterling, I use Hagerty’s silver spray and polishing gloves.

@@frrusc1 Our Waterford spokeswoman, Jean Moses, always said the kitchen faucet is the #1 killer of crystal. Fill the sink with warm, soapy water and let items soak. Place clean items on a soft towel. At our house, the cats break treasures. 😿 I would say handle with care and dry hands to avoid dropping. Lotions can be a slippery slope. 🧴

I don’t quite understand how your husbands picture was in a frame. You would have removed it before donating I am sure. Also you mentioned this happens to other people and you’re returning something to a mutual friend. Please help me understand how people end up with their picture in frames. In my case, his framed photo was in a box of Christmas items in our attic. We donated and had no idea it was there. This happens more than you would think.
At 21:21 who did you say made the pitcher that had the Waterford 16-petal emblem on the bottom?
Many Waterford pieces have 8 cross cuts, which shows as a 16 star cut. Miller Rogaska most likely copied this signature look.
How does one tell the difference between Waterford and the forgery by M. Rogaska?
@@janetthornton7909 Always look for the acid etched Waterford logo, usually along the base. Your eye will eventually spot real Waterford.
What is pressed glass versus regular glass or crystal glass?
Pressed glass is made using a mold. Many of these are known as EAPG: Early American Pattern Glass. Regular glass is not antique/vintage and is usually without a design. Crystal has lead content and often has a hand-cut pattern.
