Very impressive; a thoughtful, sensitive but powerful performance. The first movement Moderato tempo is perfectly judged (it’s often too rushed), and the adagio flows exactly as it should. A reference performance for any professional or amateur thinking of attempting this sonata.
Da, virtouz medju virtouzima, a pride još i poeta. I like many pianist, but I love only a few. Among all of them, one who is surly touch my heart for good, is delicate and tactile Sokolov.
As usual, Sokolov plays with a musical intelligence second to none (and fingers to match)... few others read this score correctly, especially regarding the "wedge" articulation.
Marvelous as always, but to quibble, the velocity of the third movement is not prepared in the first so it strikes me as not of a piece with the whole.
Grigory Sokolov=THE TITAN OF THE PIANO!! THE GIANT OF THE PIANO!! Grigory Sokolov his Chopin piano concerto no 2! Brahms piano concerto no 2! Mozart piano concerto no 24! Saint-Saens piano concerto no 2! AFTER Grigory Sokolov played These concertos then All The others PIANISTS ARE REALLY ONLY THE DUST ZEROS=HOROWITZ THE DUST ZERO!!
Witold Domeyko Mozart and Haydn speak exactly the same mid/late 18th century musical language; however, what they say is entirely different, and not delivered with the same accent. This sonata is quintessentially Haydnesque, and barely a note of it sounds remotely Mozartian.
One of the best and most unique performances of this piece ever. The ornamentation alone gives ample reason for a listen.
His articulation is simply astonishing. His playing seems to have a completely organic quality, quintessentialy musical.
Well said. To it add poetry and humour. Supreme musical intelligence.

delightful, perfect match, Joseph and Grigory
Wonderful interpretation.
Perfect tone and modality!!
Sokolovs´ playing here is a sheer delight
+gyth001 Sounds like he is falling asleep :-)
Haydn y Sokolov, una sola maravilla.!

this is Mr Sokolov's Haydn ! and i think, more nice is't possible
At last one record that is good of this sonata in my opinion.
I think if maestro would play all the sonatas it will all the best
Proper speed on the first movement, each note is heard. never too fast

It is just not performed enough, but for me there is never enough Haydn.
@@WalyB01 -- Agreed...but do you feel that same way about Scarlatti and Beethoven?
Habituellement, j'aime beaucoup Sokolov.
Great....makes a nice comparison with Lang-Lang's fine interpretation, too.....BRAVO from México!

It sounds very much like Mozart.

À quoi sert la photo?
What is this photograph about?
+youngpossum Merci.
