@@Romewise Absolutely. My grandparents came from there to the US in the early 1920s. I went there for the first time several years ago and was blown away. This really made my week! I am so glad you enjoyed my video. I do love Kalymnos and am glad it gave you some good memories about your home island! Thank you for your kind words.
One of the best videos on Kalymnos I’ve seen on TH-cam and one of the few that really captures the spirt of the island. I’ve visited many times and will again. I’ve read your father’s work and been in so many places in the film. It’s a special treat seeing it at this time when we can’t travel. Thank you.
Wow what a lovely thing to say! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. As you can tell, Kalymnos is very special to me. I am glad that came through. Thank you again!
A few years ago Kalymnos was one of the islands we visited as part of our Dodecanese island hopping spree. I still wash myself with a Kalymnos spunge. They're good quality!
Your Mom is so great, she looks really very warm-hearted ! When she said the greek people had no concept of privacy.....that is no part of the greek personality, i must laugh out loud. Last year my wife an i visit Kalymnos for the first time. We stay in Myrties, and we had a fantastic time. We are from germany, and and have lived in an apartment of Greek friends whose parents were born there and still live there. The first morning after a tiring journey was directly the father of our friends at the door and wanted to show us the island, and had already planned a sightseeing program for the next days. That was my wife too much attention and closeness, we had to point out him friendly but determined that we just wanted to relax and enjoy the sun and the atmosphere of the island. The people are all friendly and want to talk and have contact. A very great video with private shots of your family. It has touched me very much. I've never been to Rome with my wife, we still have to do absolutely !!! I will look at your information then. Many greetings from Germany. Thomas
Thank you for sharing this lovely, personal, heartfelt comment. I can tell you really love Kalymnos as we do. It is such a special place! I am so glad people like you come here and enjoy it so much. Best wishes - Elyssa
We were there in 1976, as my cousin married someone whose family originally came from there. Beautiful people and island. It's great to hear that it is unspoiled by tourism. Thank you for such a lovely, heartfelt video.
Thanks so much for watching my video. It's always nice to hear from people who have some connection to this special island! We go nearly every year and will be going back this year and while tourism has brought some changes, it does remain unspoiled by it. We truly love Kalymnos so much!

We've been going to kalymnos for the last fourteen years. Fell in love from day one we even got hear corona times. It's like a little secret because we'd like it to stay the same and enjoy it for the rest of our lives. Thank you kalymnos ❤
Thank you so much! Believe it or not, Kalymnos is actually pretty huge. I could barely show you all the beautiful areas. But yes, it does feel like that "small village" atmosphere and that's part of the beauty. Thanks again for watching!
I found you for my trip to Rome last month and I saw your stories to Kalymnos. Great to see this video as well as I am going to Kalymnos in few weeks time. ❤️🧡
Wow that's amazing that you will visit Kalymnos! It's not well known but as you can see from my video, I love it so much. I hope you have a wonderful visit!
Wonderful video, Elyssa! Makes me want to visit Kalymnos one day, when we make it back to Greece. It was interesting to learn the island is part of the Dodecanese Islands. The main street alongside the Sponge Docks, in Tarpon Springs, is Dodecanese Blvd. Now it makes a lot more sense as to where the name came from. Nice to "meet" your family, and husband, too.
Hi Rose and thank you for watching my video about Kalymnos. You can sometimes fly here directly from Athens in high season. Otherwise, you typically fly first to Kos, and then take the ferry from Kos to Kalymnos. From Mikonos I think you'd have to go first to Athens and then to Kos (or to Kalymnos if there is a direct flight.) Kalymnos does have an airport but there are not daily flights and not from all the islands. I hope that helps!

Unfortunately I didn't spend enough time there. I did speak it when I was little and went to school, but later we didn't go back for a few years and by the time we did, I didn't speak Greek any more. And now my visits are only for about a week or so, so it's not enough time for me to absorb it. My parents speak it fluently.
My father is from there and my parents live there for 18 years now. Sadly I find the island extremely boring and I don't like it's people. I so much wish my parents would have lived in the mainland.
Hello Kritisk and thank you for watching my video and for your comment. I am sorry you find the island boring but, of course, a love for any place is subjective.

Hi Rose, from Mykonos it's easier to take a ferry :) Then you can take a 1h flight back to Athens from Kos, which is very close to Kalymnos by boat.
