    1:51 - guy tries to show off with an edgy question
    Watch LaBeouf neutralize this guy's pretentious question with its own perfect answer.
    The thing I'd like to point out is that the guy's question ("Have you gone off the rails or chosen your own direction?") is highly disrespectful and emotionally abusive, and yet this guy thinks he's being merely smart and quirky. This, I think parallels how celebrities constantly deal with a faceless crowd that feels entitled and knowledgable about celebrity lives.
    LaBeouf, when first hearing the question, forces the guy to repeat himself - probably to make sure he's heard the question correctly, but also (I believe) because he senses the guy is doing some sort of power play as a way to show off to his friends later. Then, LaBeouf answers the question with 1 sentence ("A little bit of both"), refusing to indulge the guy's hope that his controversial question will launch LaBeouf into some inspiring monologue. Instead, LaBeouf answers his question point-blank and cuts off all momentum from his question.
    Brilliant.

      @John Doe Words are the least reliable purveyor of truth, John. And that goes for you and Shia. This was just a simple statement of gratitude. That's why I said "reluctant" and why I enjoy when Shia speaks. He has a feeling towards wisdom. Not a declaration of it. Neither do I. All creation is fulfilled in deed. Shia spoke this into creation and through TH-cam no less. The deed has been done.
      To reject it is to reject ones self.
      So, what do you know about wisdom?

    • @b.paluska476
      @b.paluska476 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also - Wisdom is associated with attributes such as unbiased judgment, self-transcendence and non-attachment, and virtues such as ethics and benevolence. So when Shai says this, you question his path towards it - "I pray at night when I’m scared even though science tells me there is no God … but I still pray.
      I don’t know why. It is just something I do. And I feel like I’m a better person because of it. "

    To call him a genius is a huuuuge stretch, but he is definitely under rated. Much respect.

    We did an English GCSE on the film 'Holes' that he was the lead in and ever since then, I've always thought this guy was so humble. He's a legend and because he started seeing Hollywood and fame for what it really is, people tried to call him crazy etc when he made it known. He spoke about selfies too and I can completely understand his view on it. None of us understand what it's like to be hassled on a day to day basis like big celebrities do. It must be madness and to say "oh they rich so what?" doesn't make sense either. That being said, he understands he wouldn't be where he is without those fans so it's a double edged sword in a way. Shia is someone who's woken up to the world's bullshit and I respect those people a lot.

    It’s so nice to see Shia LaBeouf again... he is so real and raw about his life and purpose in life. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for him. I hope more movies etc. and doing whatever makes him happy!

    Sometimes its the most flawed people that end up being the light on a dark day. Hes a genuinely fascinating, sweet, and broken person. But what he shows all of us, is that we are human, flawed, and capable of great things.
