    Maybe you showed them screenshots of your housing, your beautiful Warrior of Light, a song from the wonderful FFXIV OST, or even the cool boss you fought, and yet still they won’t budge - despite the worthwhile free trial experience.
    They say things like: MMOs are grindy, they don’t have a good story, or the journey is too long.
    How do you convince that special person that they should give it a try?
    Here’s my ultimate guide on how to turn your friends into fellow adventurers.

    I see the overarching FF14 story as a great fantasy book. Sure there's a lot of information thrown at you when you first get into it, but that's the charm of diving into a new story - the world building. And just like a good book, you can easily come back to it and continue the story whenever you feel like.

    I take breaks from this game. I just beat ARR like last year and made it to Ishgard. I really love that I feel like I never miss anything story wise no matter how long my break is. But it's ultimately up to the person and what they want from a game like this.

    Came here expecting a funny video, stayed for wholesome. This really is a game that you have to take at your own pace. I started playing back in HW, and made the mistake of skipping through a lot to catch up with friends. Eventually decided to take things at my own pace and have been having a great time since. Wishing everyone a great time in DT :D And may the sprouts fall in love with Eorzea too

    The game is great! Comunity, end-game content, events, trials everything is great. There is even graphic update within this week. BUT to really feel a social part of the game and game itself you need to complete 2.5 expansions at least(near 450 quests with like 90h(if you skip every dialog and cutscene) of take-talk-teleport-talk quests mostly and sometimes with dungeons and bosses), but if you are addicted to story that will feel ok and this is the biggest problem of early-game and this is the only big problem of the game. You should try it, end-game is worth of boring quests at the start

    I have a noob question: Do i have to wait for my attack animations or can I spam buttons? For example as archer with heavy shot and bloodletter.

    • @unimplied
      @unimplied  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you are able to use it, spam away! Most classes have what are known as oGCDs or “off global cooldown” abilities that can be used in between abilities- bloodletter is a good example of that. Other abilities, like heavy shot, you’ll notice that you have to wait for the global cooldown to use.

    What hooked me (and what I subsequently think is the coolest thing I've seen in any mmorpg) is the concerts. Plus you get your own island, etc etc. The only place ff14 fails (and miserably imho) is pvp. But in my old age, as pvp becomes more toxic I find myself evolving into a carebear. You will be sick of the cutscenes though.

    I feel like when you’re getting a friend into this game you have to be *very* aware of the type of games that friend enjoys, and adjust your expectations for them accordingly. If you have a friend who is massively into written fantasy stories, then you should encourage them to take their time and experience all that the story has to offer. But for the love of god, if you have a friend who isn’t into the story, or who maybe has a shorter attention span, please don’t force them to sludge through it just so *you* have someone to talk about the story with. Some people (rightfully so) don’t want to spend upwards of 300 hours just to catch up with everyone else, and just to experience some lore, and they just want to be able to play content. Those types of people would heavily benefit from purchasing a story skip & level skip.

    I was able to convince two friends to play XIV, both finished A Realm Reborn and quit. They did not want to continue onto Heavensward because they were burnt out and spent 100 hours to beat Realm Reborn.

      Be “burnout” as they would have 4

    Ok now answer me this question: how do I convince them to stay without buying an ARR story skip?

    • @unimplied
      @unimplied  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Having played all of the expansions, I've made the mistake of telling my friends that they "just have to get through" A Realm Reborn, because it's easy to say I liked it less than the expansions in hindsight. But if you are constantly telling people they have to "just get through" something, they aren't going to want to do it. Try to see it from their perspective as new players. My friends that have gotten into the game with a fresh set of eyes (and without that mentality) have really enjoyed it! I mention this briefly in the video that it's good to build hype around the game getting better over time, but it's also important to let them enjoy the time they spend with it and not burn them out.

    • @RED_Theory038
      @RED_Theory038 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      ARR is free and beyond that up to Shadowbringers I believe. That alone is a great incentive to get their foot in the door. Only thing it will really cost them is time spent on a relatively mediocre story. Just be honest and consider how tolerant they are of anime/Japanese storytelling tropes. Do small chunks of content at a time. I remember hating it the first time I was going through and even took a week long break because I felt the lead up to Titan was so ridiculously stupid but I did come back and push on. Deep down, I enjoy MMOs and community is what keeps me coming back. FF14 is pretty friendly in my experience.

    Absolutely no sarcasm here -- Thank you for not mentioning endgame raids.
    I strongly feel endgame raids are the worst reason to get into this game.
    The fact that those players will skip every single other piece of content, decide that endgame raids is not what they wanted, then just dismiss everything else as bad as well is just painful to hear.
    My opinion is that endgame raids are for players who have exhausted every other activity in the game.
    Just clearing a raid for the sake of doing such grants nothing if a player doesn't love the game since its insignificant to those out of the community.
    For the community, it's a goal. Something to show your love and dedication towards the game.
    I'm not saying that there aren't players who learned to love the game after, but that's a small handful.
    At this point I feel like the label of "MMORPG" is dragging the game down.
    There's too much bias and expectation from the label that only those clueless or with discipline will try the game.
    Raids in this game aren't even a "raid". It's a boss battle. Outdated labels and terminology may have worked ten years ago, not now where we have some who don't even know what a MMORPG is or even FF.
    "FFXIV is a critically acclaimed JRPG with online co-op modes involving 4, 8, or 24 players."
    We love it because its unique and there's nothing like it. We fail to invite friends because we keep on using comparisons to other games when we shouldn't.
    We then bring up endgame raids and its too overwhelming for them. (Game does a bad job of having nothing inbetween normal and savage, I admit.)
    Well, it works out since otherwise I wouldn't have ingame friends and would just stick with RL friends, I guess.

    honestly its because ff xiv is a rpgmmo imho, instead of a mmorpg; If you'd take away the Online aspects, you'd still have a functioning great RPG.
    Also unless they changed it, about the boost to other classes, this only applies if your first one is max level, otherwise the other classes will not get said bonus

    • @unimplied
      @unimplied  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      I'm not sure if they changed it or if there's a lot of conflicting information out there, but the armory (experience) bonus is for ALL levels! You don't need a maxed character to benefit from it, just the ability to change jobs. You also won't get it if you're the same level (i.e. both jobs are level 75).

    Please help me, i want to like that game but i am a crafting guy and it feels so worthless. I leveld Alchemy to 20 but all potions do basically nothing worth mentioning and the 5min shared cooldown dosent make it better. Than i leveled Cooking but food feels also worthless, i dont mind 3% more ep or 10% more spell speed witch makes my spells cast in 2,98 sec instead of 3 sec xD wtf? Than i cached some Fish but i dont need them and it seems like nobody do -.- so i can sell them for 1 gil per fish to an npc. I want to like the game and playing it makes fun but as soon i start thinking about what am i doing here it feels like an complete waste of time. I Loved New World for its great crafting progress. But New world is an dead game now thx to the community hating it into the ground. If crafting in FF14 is only worth for endgame hardcore raiding, than it looks like the game isnt for me.

      I think you're thinking too much on the quick and now, and forgetting the journey. Yes the stuff early levels are worthless products, but you're misplacing their purpose. It's not about the products' usefulness in the field, it's about the exp to get you to the higher recipes. They're stepping stones for you to learn better and better crafts.
      Crafting is its own endgame. You supply the rushers with every type of small to large increases to their stats. HQ quality, be it gear, potions, foods etc. Good gil from that. Other than just alchemy, become an omni-crafter, and make bank for making base materials from gathered items, furniture for the housing fanatics, and clothing glams for the glam hunters and rp'ers.
      There's a lot of crafts for different people, not just for gearing the raiders. It's just how you want to craft, for yourself, for others as the one people look towards for supplies, or for the sweet money money.
      Getting to the end takes time, but a long the way you can make some things that no one makes anymore and people still need from time to time. The market is always different from server to server.

      Low level crafting for gil requires you to make gc turn in items or furniture. Theres very little else that holds value from past expansions, let alone all the way back in ARR.

I offered even skipping, but there are just times where you just have to give up on them and move on. Theyre still playing WoW Classic (again if you count Vanilla in there), and Old School Runescape.
