It took me about ~350 hours to play through the main story of Final Fantasy XIV (A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker). It was a slow summer at work 😬. ayy behemoth crew. great video! glad you're enjoying the game. i started back in may of 2021 and its like the only thing i play now and i still have a ton of stuff to explore and do lol
I definitely know that feeling of being so filled with love for FFXIV and wanting so badly to talk to people about it. I've been playing for a year now and I'm still desperate to get more of my friends to play because ugh, it's just so good. I hate that people kind of dismiss it because it's an MMO. It's honestly such a unique and incredible story experience because you get so attached to your WoL and they're the hero. I played WoW for well over a decade and I never felt even remotely attached to my characters in that game like I do to my WoL.
YES! Like, you almost want to evangelize the damn game. Every single gamer I talk to who doesn’t play this one, I always try to talk them into it lol. Similar experience with WOW- loved the game for the time I played but never got attached to the characters. Meanwhile XIV has made me cry happy and sad tears on multiple occasions and the characters that I’ve been journeying with for a year feel like friends.
I get this same thing from people too. They'll play literally any RPG, but when I say to play ffxiv and it's even better than all the other ones I recommend, they just won't play it because it's an mmo and they don't think they'll like the combat
If they dismiss the mmo aspect of it, spin it as an RPG you can play with others because you can now run the entire ARR and HW without the trust system
I was genuinely saddened to hear that you felt so compelled to watch guides and were stressed out over not understanding boss mechanics. The community is super welcoming and understanding when sprouts make mistakes. It has happened to all of us! We all died to x mechanic that one time, we were all confused at first. We as the community are here to help you make it through the dungeon, not to make the game stressful! If we all die, its a part of the process of learning, and we are always happy to help. Don't feel like you are letting your party down if you make a mistake, its human!
Yep only time I ever watched guides was for extreme or savage fights. Otherwise no one cares and most people explain things. I think its because she rushed through it too fast! I don't think you can learn the game properly and focus on all the story and finish in 2 months. I have played like 7000 hours. Probably 500 just to finish the base game
Maybe because she played WoW before that this kinda of mentality that you cannot make mistakes when doing group content is stuck with her. That game's community is defo not as newbie friendly as FF14 is.
Yeah. I used to do guides, mainly because I'm a healer and when I mess up, the party wipes... but I stopped watching guides since Shadowbringer because the story captured me so much and I didn't want to spoil myself anymore.. so now I go in blind every time. Sure, there have been wipes but it happens lol.
Ayup same here. I only ever got grief for one fight and it was one of the (normal) Eden raids when it was still end game content (tho in my defense, another member was saying “y’all should’ve watched a guide” so I literally typed on controller that I hadn’t needed guides to clear previous normal content. Got called toxic for it but yeah. Either way, well. I never did need a guide for anything in the MSQ or normal level raids. I still successfully cleared all the things I wanted. Guides are for EX and Savage content imho. :p
For sure! I started playing this game last November, and I had never played an MMO before. I didn't know what I was doing at all. But everyone was so nice and supportive. No one ever told me that I sucked or that I needed to do better. Instead they actually explained the mechanics and gave me helpful tips. I never really looked up any mechanics or anything, I just wanted to experience the game for the first time and not have to do a lot of homework. Now, if I ever start doing the Extreme and Savage content then I definitely will, but that's a whole other thing. I've been playing for like 1500 hours now, and I think I've met 7 people that I found rude or unpleasant. And only 2 of those were actually mean and toxic. Overall the community is so nice. It's almost unreal at times.
Final Fantasy 14 is deffo my forever "MMO". There is just something satisfying about having a clear and concise story that blends in with the multiplayer content that fits so nicely compared to other games. Also Soken's music is baller and Nobou Uematsu couldn't have picked a better heir to the Final Fantasy Soundtrack.
@@GhostAeonWolf I'm of the mindset that FF14 is more of a MORPG than an MMO. i can't really put it in words, but nerdslayer Studios did a video about it and I happen to feel the same way. Here's the link if you are curious th-cam.com/video/QIsv6ESBFrU/w-d-xo.html
I started a year ago and I always did all the dungeons blind, and I still go into new content blind to this day. I don't think there's pressure to know the mechanics upto and including extreme trials. I would only suggest it for savage and ultimate.
I also started about a year ago and agree with this. I did watch videos before trials for a while after I died 5 or 6 times during one of the Alexander bosses, which made me want to ignore the 6th battle rez... I don't really bother watching videos anymore. FF14 -- at least the more recent Normal raids -- is really good about telegraphing boss mechanics in such a way as it is possible to figure out what is going based on one's knowledge of all the other bosses that one has already seen. And even if you don't figure it out immediately, you'll just get battle rezzed and can continue having fun pressing buttons and improving rather than going afk because being a corpse is dull. And the other players are quite chill about your screw-ups since your screw-up is unlikely to wipe the group, and will instead just slow things down a bit.
Definitely maybe for savage but even the first time I go in blind. Then after I see things I’ll look up a guide or something. But yeah the savage in the ultimate that’s when you really have to be on the ball because one mistake could really ruin your day.
One dungeon I did at level lik 46/7 and literally loaded into it with a whole bunch of other sprouts and 1 veteran player on an alternate character I guess and after like 3 failed attempts we had a "team meeting" with the veteran player explaining the mechanics real quick and we did it next try 😅😅😅
I've been doing the exact same thing as you. After an actual YEAR of my best friend talking about and trying to convince me to play FFXIV with her, I finally caved and started playing (I'm 33 and I guess I was avoiding it because I didn't want it to turn into a WoW situation... Like... I have a 8-5 job now you know??). I have been playing for only a month and I already blazed through Stormblood and on my way through the patches leading up to Shadowbringers. Having a friend that is already invested in the game helps immensely... She is also enjoying my reactions to the story and watching the cutscenes with me. Honestly, this is my favorite MMO. Everyone is so understanding and kind (I never felt like I was inconveniencing everyone by being a sprout), the story itself is so GOOD and I am absolutely invested, the game is pretty, I can play dress up with my character (I have an off-brand Lara Croft glamour I often use because of course I do).... Everything you said in this video I agree with wholeheartedly.
Haha yes! Exactly why I held off for so long too. Like yo, mid-30s status and I need to be responsible! 😆 I love that you have a friend to play with! I would totally want to see a sprout's reactions to everything too. Please come back and tell me what you think after Endwalker. I'd love to geek out over the story with someone else who's blasting through it!
From what I've found, unless you're in high end content, no one really expects anyone to know mechanics in story dungeons and raids. As a healer main for 2 years its actually very endearing seeing sprouts fail in the story combat content that I also did back when I joined. 😊
16:00 I maintain that ARR is better than people remember. I just went through it again on an alt, and with a full grasp of the world's politics and dynamics, as well as knowledge of what happens later, the story beats are *immensely* satisfying. ARR is my second favorite story in the game, behind Shadowbringers.
People tend to forget that a lot of us bought into ARR. ARR alone was enough to convince us to play, back when ARR was all that existed. And we enjoyed it even through the jank and delays (Crystal tower was orignial supposed to come at launch, but got pushed to 6.1. We stayed playing even though endgame amounted to "Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep". Though I won't deny the pacing issues between ARR and HW, that felt completely different when you only had to deal with it on a patch by patch basis.
I'll be honest, as someone who is currently drudging through ARR's MSQ, your claim that ARR "is better than people remember" only suggests to me that later story lines are not as great as people praise them to be; Which is more concerning than anything. The only saving grace is that maybe the relative difference comes from earlier quests having been reworked over the years, having become slightly better (but really, they are still not good; Worst of all, several climactic moments, where the story builds up well get ruined by poor creative decisions).
@@OzixiThrill I think he's saying that from a post-MSQ standpoint, which is pretty fair. ARR lays the groundwork for the world building the next expansions provide, and looking back on it, you start to appreciate that the base game incorporated those aspects that were later built upon. Going through the base game for the first time, with no inkling on how it will expand in the future, it's easy to see ARR as just a mid-level story with an OK payoff, at best. But like others have said, I promise the story quality ramps up significantly with Heavensward, and the time ARR invested in its world building will be worth it.
@@OzixiThrill not at all, IMO. I’ve been replaying ARR on an alt as well and it has the same pacing problems its always had and is relatively dull compared to the expansions, but ARR sets up so much that doesn’t really pay off until later. Were it not for ARR the expansions wouldn’t hit as hard as they do.
I have been trying to get my sister to play this game with me for years! She refuses because it's an mmo but I keep trying to tell her it's not as daunting as it seems... Thank you for this as I will be sharing it with her and hopefully she feels compelled to at least try it out with me!
I hope she at least tries the free trial, its the best reintroduction into this game. If you are wise, you can stretch your free trial for a long while but I think soon I will subscribe, this game is much easier then the initial ff 14 release after the beta. The game was not enjoyable to play back then. I couldn't even get a party to do Tam Tara because the duty finder was practically non-existent back then. At worst now all you will have to do is wait 15-20 minutes to do a duty/raid
Wow, your thoughts on the game and mine are so similar! I’m in the same age range and a lifelong gamer as well, Chrono cross was a favorite of mine too, and I had played and loved the entire FF series but never touched XI or XIV, and I fell in love with it too once someone talked me into trying it last year. Love love love seeing your experience, it was so relatable! This is a game that I love so much to the point where I’m slightly sad I’ll never be able to experience it for the first time again. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Your excitement to talk about it was downright infectious and made me smile. Hope you keep playing and loving it! And because my FC leader would smack me if I didn’t put it out there: if you ever want to revisit the FC idea with some good folks who geek out about the story and the game as a whole, come visit the 903rd Marauders over on Sargatanas sometime :) Wishing us both many more awesome adventures!
"This is a game that I love so much to the point where I’m slightly sad I’ll never be able to experience it for the first time again." yup. this right here.
Thank you for watching!! Your comment made me smile! This is exactly why I made this video! I wanted to share my love for FFXIV with others who get it 😄
I became a walking advertisement for the game, I know the feeling. Hope you feel better about the people anxiety as you continue playing. One thing that helped me a lot is just saying a simple "hello, first time" and it makes a difference with 95% of people. Also people crap on A Realm Reborn a lot but it is just a product of its time and how it was developed. It lays a lot of ground work for the rest of the game, the post patch stuff gripped me and then by Heavensward I couldn't stop playing.
As someone who’s played since open beta it still delights me to see new sprouts and newbies. It warms my heart to see their joy and wonder at this incredible world. I don’t even mind if they make mistakes/cause wipes, cuz we were all there at some point 🥰
I played the original ff 14 but I didn't enjoy it, regular monsters were a pain & I even waited 30 minutes for a party to do Tam Tara, I recently started playing again & this game is completely different then when it first started out.
@HeatherJustPlay It's a fun class and the memes are amazing too 🤣Big time the story for it is fire! I can't wait to progress through the main story some more LVL 34 main story quest to do. The side quest content is to good!
Welcome to FFXIV! Absolutely loving how much you seem to be enjoying your time with the game and the community, it's super refreshing being able to take a break from the real world and just immerse into this ever expanding fantasy world haha. Very much keeping an eye on this channel moving forwards, you're very natural on camera and Id love to see more of your journey in FFXIV as you maybe catch up on old side content or as you join us moving forwards from patch to patch in the lead up to the next expansion.
One of the best experiences for veterans (at least some) is watching new players do the content for the first time, it's awesome and makes us kinda jealous you are experiencing it like we wanted to again!
I’m the same way! I get so nervous and anxious playing with other people. But I found that everyone is really nice and some people just enjoy helping because they love the game so much ❤️
That's what I was about to say. People in dungeons will 100% know there's a first timer with them thanks to the Bonus announcement, so if you tell them that it's your first time, they will be super understanding and forgiving if you get hit by mechanics. And if they're jerks, just report them; SQEX cracks down hard on verbal abuse and griefing.
Great watch! Really cool to see the perspective of someone who went throguh the whole game in a relatively short timespan. Glad to hear you had a great time!
glad to have you as a fellow eorzean! someone once said "you either quit in ARR or become a living advertisement for the game" and i think this whole video (esp the outro) is a testament for that. great video!
9:54 I can understand that concern, especially coming from WoW, but the FF14 community is so forgiving and kind. I can honestly count the bad experiences I've had with randos on one hand over the course of three years.
I think I've only had like, one dungeon run that was really bad, party wise. Every other time, even though there were a handful of wipes and whatnot, people were very understanding. I'm sure with savage and extreme content the pressure goes up but as, far as normal content it's like 98% good vibes.
I agree. I'm pretty sure the only time where people would be annoyed over wipes is on a farming party that they request people to knoe the mechanics on
It's actually expected for new players to not understand everything. That's the whole reason for both the sprout icon and the first timer bonuses. Go in blind to everything but Extremes and Savages. No one is gonna get on your case. The mechanics are incredibly forgiving, and if you do wipe, who cares, you just teleport right back to where you died and pull again.
This is always such a lie. How come I've had more crappy people experiences in ff14 than in all the time I played wow? This community has a huge thing about propagating the lie that the community is better, but I'm pretty sure its that the community isn't as able to talk to each other as much as they can in wow. How can anyone say the community is good when every novice network chat exists (the closest thing to wows trade chat)?
@@pacifiedbeaumonte im sorry for the poor experience you have had, sincerely. But its far from "always such a lie", because, for most people, the experience is that way. I can say i am able to count on two hands the toxicity i have encountered in ff14 in the year and a half i have played it, but i also PvP a ton. And most of those were more of a snarky comment, rather than anything full blown (only 2 of those cases). The Novice Network is, sadly, notorious for how toxic it can be. But its vital to also know that action speaks loudly. If you wipe in a dungeon on wow, theres a high chance the group will break apart. I have had that happen only once in all my time with 14. If someone said they were doing new content blind in WoW, they would get chewed out for being selfish. In 14, you get words of encouragement or a quick rundown. While your experiences are valid, know they are in a minority. The reason the community echos how great their community experience is, including sprouts who are brand new and have no loyalty to led them to "lie", is because that is the case for them. I hope your experience gets better. Im hoping it was a bad luck streak and itll get better sooner rather than later.
I really adored all the points of why you enjoy FFXIV, and it is definitely a good way to enjoy the game as i can definitely relate and it is the way i play it as well. I remember when i first started i flat out REFUSED to do any sort of group content, but a friend of mine held my hand. I super didn't want to play with other people. And this was BEFORE they introduced the AI companions to do it with. I would love to see more of your takes on various parts of the game, and how you as this type of player see it. Please keep up the good work! It was such a pleasure to watch your videos!
That's insane, I just had the same experience, having finished all of its story in exactly 2 months after coming back to it from barely getting into any deep into A Realm Reborn. I restarted it back up in late June this year and recently just finished it a few days ago, whilst doing the raids & the optional trials of each expansion every now and then. The community is so patient with you, I absolutely adore it. They're what kept me going through this game, alongside the story of it all and the AMAZING soundtrack. I'm so glad to see you've had a similar experience, it really is The Critically Acclaimed MMORPG that just keeps on giving.
Thank you for sharing your experience ! Honestly, I had skipped 11 and 14 as well for the longest time because they were MMO. But then a few friends started playing FF14 and decided to try it out. I fell in love with the game. Started on free trials, was a complete newbie, didn't understand mechanics, where to look, how to move and interact (keyboard & mouse), etc. It was quite overwhelming at first. But it was fun learning, taking my time and getting better with other players helping me. I understand the pressure of wanting to do good, and looking for guides before going into dungeons and trials. especially when you're going as a healer or a tank. Fast-forward two years later, with +6000h into the game, I still have so much to do and i'm still enjoying the adventures and the shenanigans with friends. All in all, welcome to Eorzea and happy you're enjoying your stay
Omg there aren’t that many content creators in behemoth! So I am very happy you’re here! If you’ve watched any dungeon guides from MTQCapture or any ffxiv content from SlytheFox then rejoice because they’re also Behemoth natives! Honestly so happy you love this game, ngl your brother converted you the way the community memes haha!
Oh how cool! I watched a lot of MTQCapture's guides! And is the meme you're referring to the one about the "critically acclaimed" etc etc? lol it worked! 😜
Welcome to the community, you just taught me something new. I had no idea about LunarCon and I having been playing for over a year. I'm in Zalera as Ern Revan if your looking for ppl to play with.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I too started playing FFXIV this year, but I'm taking it much more slowly. I've only just started getting into Heavensward. Still, I can relate to your new player experience and your anxiety about playing with others in new content. Definitely the community is the best I've ever met in any game - they have been so helpful, kind, and understanding for newbies, as long as you're humble and willing to learn. I wish you all the best as you continue your FFXIV journey!
Great video and welcome to Eorzea! If there's anything us FF fans love it's seeing new people getting into it and loving the game. And hell yeah Im on Behemoth too! Maybe I'll see you out there
8:50 Don't worry about guides for dungeons~ You can if you want, but honestly, most of the community is understanding. So if you walk in, 'hey I'm new, anything I need to know', they'll usually give you a simple run down of mechanics (or tell you to follow a marked player) and let you do your thing.
I got everything to 90 a few months ago and I swear just when you think you’re done there is more content and that is my favorite, always something to do!
I feel bad that you felt the need / pressure to watch a guide for everything! It's 100000% unnecessary and everyone is super understanding if you say that you're new. I hope you feel comfortable going into content blind someday! I think it's scary at first but you get used to it pretty quickly, and not having spoilers is really nice Also not having anyone to gush to about the game is very relatable. And you risk turning away your friends if they feel fed up with you bringing it up all the time haha
Same friends got me to play, they only now play occasionally. I mostly play with npc's as well. I however have been playing for a while. Love the story! So well done. No dungeon fear except when tanking omg noooo, but I do it. I heal and dps. There is so much great information from the community, anything you want to know you can find or ask it's what I do as well. Keep enjoying the game, glad you love it. Loved your vid.
It’s crazy how close our experiences were. I picked it up in April 2020, and had the same loves and setbacks. I play almost daily now with an active FC so lots of people who like to do duties together, high end stuff or old stuff they want to take others through etc it’s great. I tried wow for two years and it was a chore, I tried liking it.
it's absolutely wild clicking on video youtube recommended me and finding someone summarizing my summer! I picked up FF14 in May when my summer break began and I played through Realm Reborn in like three weeks, loving every second of it. I immediately bought the giant pack of expansions and committed to finishing Endwalker before the one-month of playtime included in the pack ran out. soooo I basically speedran the entire game. it was a haze of trying to remember mechanics and lore while learning how group content like raids worked. I didn't learn what materia was, I never visited the Golden Saucer, I only followed the main story. I finished the MSQ through 6.0 literally on day 30. while I'm not new to MMOs, having casually played Guild Wars 2 since the beta, I was constantly surprised about how much I cared about this game in such a short time. I fell in love with the random people playing music in Gridania. I watched video guides for the dungeons so I could learn what tanking was. every time someone encouraged me to take charge in a trial, I was super nervous, but I had this huge smile on my face. and the story! I screamed, I laughed, I theorized, I got passionate. by the end, I was crying alongside all the characters I'd gotten so attached to. i'd been hesitant to play FF14 for a long time because the UI scared me and I didn't have confidence in the story. I thought it would be a grind fest, or the story would be mid at best. I played it on a whim and i'm so glad I did. beyond the incredible story and the fun mechanics, it's a rich and vibrant community that i'm so excited to be a part of going forward! having now played for a few months, I can't see myself stopping anytime soon. p.s. i'm currently doing the 6.2 raids and I still have the sprout by my name. bet that worries some people when I jump in to main tank lol
Firstly, immense kudos to you for getting through the story in two months ( I’ve seen this across my feed a few times and have always been so impressed by that ) but secondly, welcome to Eorzea!! I’ve been scoping out a lot of FF14 TH-cam, and it’s been really fun getting everyone’s impressions about the game ( I’ve done my own bullying of getting some friends to join and play ) and it’s so wonderful to see the glowing testimonies above the absolutely real and genuine fear of “Big MMO” and player anxiety. I genuinely didn’t like FF14 when I first started playing because I had no idea what I was doing, I wasn’t having fun with the class I was playing and it was just a really sour time until finding a good group of friends that supported me through the game, and allowed us all to just indulge in the story together! I’m so glad you’re having a good time, and going at your own pace! Have fun exploring the numerous things that you can do and experience because this game IS HUGE! But pacing is always important, and helps keep the hunger for the fun alive! I hope you’re able to find good friends to play with, that you can experience the thrill of raids and that you enjoy every moment spent! 💛 Also I’m Taygete Astrophel on Famfrit! It would be so fun to play together some time!!
Waaaay back when, about 4/5 years now, I remember holding back on playing XIV because it was suscription based, but unlike other people, I was *sure* I'd get hooked on the game and that's why I was avoiding it. Then they expanded the trial to be unlimited time but up to lv35 (This is before they expanded it to all of ARR/HW) and I was certain I was making a mistake while I was downloading the game. This many years later, and sure enough, it was a terrible mistake. I can't leave this game for long periods of time, because it's just so good. I've finished the story, but there's so much cool side content, and even PvP (Crystal Conflict in specific) is so much fun. And now I'm bound by the "Pay it forward" mentality of the game. I got helped so much when I started, even though I was avoiding people for the most part, but my Free Company constantly gifted me high level gear each time I had issues or reached a milestone, like gifting me a crafted high quality level 50 gear when I leveled up my first crafter job. I just can't help but help people back, be it helping them through dungeons or even playing Uber Driver for them so they can reach aethercurrents or key story parts faster. It just melts my heart seeing them grow to love the game as much as I do. In this super hostile videogame environment we're in, where being toxic is considered a strategy to win versus other players, FFXIV is such an unusual oasis of positivity, and I'll do everything in my hand to keep it as a safe haven for people, or as other call it, the "Gamer's retirement home".
I think there was a part of me that also knew I'd be hooked 😆 And yes, I'm still relatively new but I feel the same whenever I see sprouts because people were so helpful and kind to me! I've never heard it referred to as the gamer's retirement home but that's the perfect description for it hahah.
This is such an awesome video! As someone who unfortunately was enticed to story boost to play with people (who shortly there after quit playing) I have missed out on a LOT of details of the story even though I'm already done with Endwalker and have over 2000+ hrs logged on the game. With the introduction of New Game+ I got so excited I get to go back and enjoy the story and take my sweet time to do so! WELCOME TO EORZEA!!!
The great thing about this game is the sprout system. You'll have a 🌱 icon over your head which tells the community you're new. There is no pressure on dying and most of the time the group will have you covered. It's only when you get into optional harder content that more will be expected of you. People are usually very good at helping and keeping the story spoiler free. We want you to enjoy what we got to enjoy.
I started playing about a month ago, im halfway through Shadowbringer, lvl79 warrior, with like 6 days of game time. I've never been so sucked into a game before, and I've played a LOT of games. A month later and I haven't gotten burnt out in the slightest, its almost scary. I love this game.
There is one run I had back when I was a newbie that I will never forget. I also used to be very anxious about not carrying my weight so to speak, and so I would read text guides about the dungeons and bosses before embarking on them. The Heavensward dungeon called The Aery used to have a mechanic where there was an NPC in the final fight you had to keep alive. If you didn't it was an instant wipe. I was a dps with no way to heal other people, so I just took note of it along everything else. Duty pops, all goes well, and then we get to the end. And then the NPC's HP starts to go down. And we fight on. And I the NPC's health keeps going down. Nothing I can do. The NPC's health reached zero. And with their death we followed shortly after. And in the ensuing conversation it turns out I knew to heal the NPC and the healer didn't. They claimed they had never had to do it before. It can be tough being the newbie, and feeling everyone knows what they're doing and you don't. But oftentimes veterans never knew the entirety of the mechanics themselves, or have forgotten them over the long years the game has been in service. Nobody expects you to be perfect, and helping someone knew usually brings joy to XIV players. Just keep playing, and before you know it you'll be the veteran the newbies look up to.
"I wanted to experience the game, but I had to read up on the mechanics so I didn't cause the party to wipe." THIS IS SO TRUE. One of the few times where I didn't do this was the Tsukuyomi boss in Stormblood, and man... it was an experience to play that without reading up on it beforehand. I felt a bit scared, not knowing the mechanics, but once the boss music started playing, I felt so ecstatic. I felt as if I was in command of the army doing my best to keep everyone alive in the face of the unknown (played as a tank.) That experience alone is why Stormblood happens to be my favorite expansion, even if the reviews aren't too pretty about it. The dungeon music, boss, and raid music is amazing to me in that expansion. I'm currently on a new free trial account and going through the story again. I'm excited to experience Stormblood again and I can't wait to go experience Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail.
Thanks for making this video! I have some questions for Heather, and other players whom prefer the more solo aspects of the game, What do you like to do after completion of the MSQ? My wife started playing around the middle of SHB and really enjoyed her time. She just recently got caught up with MSQ and suddenly lost interest in playing. I was trying to get her to do the other content with me and the FC, but many of the concerns that Heather mentioned (feeling anxious, having to look up guides, not knowing what to do, and generally feeling lost etc) came up for her even though we mostly play with a family/close friends FC and linkshells. I really feel that this, coupled with some moments where a few bad actors made themselves known and were rude to her during roulettes, really turned her off from playing the other amazing parts of this game. I am still trying to get her motivated to play, but she mostly gets on now to do Island Sanctuary, a holiday event for glamours, or will wait until new MSQ is added and have me play her character through it lol What gives here? Did she never really like the game? She's got several hundreds of hours played and it wasnt until reaching current MSQ that it all just changed for her. What do solo focused players do once they reach the multiplayer part of the game?
I love your comments about ARR because I feel the same. I've been playing since ARR launched, so I often make story alts just so I can play ARR and be a sprout again. It's exactly like the pilot episode of a show in the way that it beautifully sets up and introduces you to themes and characters that you're going to know for the next 10 years. I'm also excited you got to partake in Lunarcon! I was lucky enough to do it the last 2 years and I think it perfectly encapsulates the close community we have.
Wow since ARR launched! Honestly I think I might make an alt to do the whole thing again. I started New Game + but it didn’t play the very first cutscene in the wagon and I was like… WHAT ELSE IS MISSING. And yes, Lunarcon was SUCH a treat! 😄
I've been playing since Heavensward was the new expac and I love seeing people getting into the game and discovering a love for it. This was awesome to see
You are 350+ hours in so you might already know this, but after seeing the 24man clips it seems you playing with full effects on. There is a setting to limit skilleffects to the necessary ones + your own. 24man content is next to unplayable without this options since you dont see anything. Next thing: if you are any DPS job, you dont really need to lookup any casual content. As tank/healer you also dont need to do it, but the pressure is certainly higher since these are the main factors to not wipe. If you are a DPS next to nobody (only butthurt players) will be mad at you if you die even 5 times in a fight. Sure most players want jsut to get through any dungeon as fast as possible, but most are considerate enough to revive your ass as often as needed and try to provide a good time (especially if its the first time in a dungeon). Sure there are some assholes out there. Its not a perfect community. But in general you will have absolutely a good time even without preparation!
Haha yes I finally did learn about limiting full effects 😆 Makes so much more sense because I don't know who the heck could understand what's going on otherwise lol. And yes, agreed. Thanks for chiming in about that, just in case others read your comment. You don't need to prepare!
@@HeatherJustPlay also as a DPS main turning down the size of the Summoner pets helped me too. I am a DPS main so I try to stick with healers as they cannot heal in Narnia and it makes it easier to use my support buffs and hit the party. As for FC I stumbled upon a sprout friendly casual FC by accident. It's been wonderful
@@HeatherJustPlay yes, you can. type: /petsize all small (or medium / large instead of small) try it at least until you see small Titan - it's super cute :D
Glad you enjoy the game as much as the rest of us! This is the first of your videos ive seen, but thanks for making it! (Also youre not the only one that wishes they still had their sprout icon lol theres lots of yall)
I'm definitely in the same boat as you on the story. It's a good story, ARR. People shit on the voice acting, they call the story bad or boring or whatever, they say skip over all that stuff, and so I did. I skipped a solid chunk of story, only getting the gist of it. When I started hitting Stormblood I got curious about all the content I skimmed over, and honestly I really wish I hadn't. I even go back to watch full plays of the original 1.0 story, just to get an idea of what it was like. I am just THAT invested in the story. I always feel bad when my friends or guildies get to the end of the game in a week, meanwhile I'm chugging along slowly, enjoying the main quests and side quests for all they're worth. My friends tell me to hurry up and reach end game content and I feel that pressure to just skip it over. I'm happy to say I did not do that for Shadowbringers and it made my experience all the better for it. I'm happy I didn't fall to peer pressure and I highly encourage everyone to do the same, and to discourage people for complaining that a new player is "wasting their time" watching cutscenes or not knowing exactly how a dungeon boss works in older content. Thankfully toxic players like that are few and far in between, so it's wonderful to have an experience everyone can enjoy.
So glad you're enjoying XIV! I had a similar experience where I love FF and JRPGs but had skipped over FFXI and XIV because I thought I didn't like MMOs. And maybe I still don't but this game is so much more than that that I will never put it down. My fiance introduced me cause he had played since HW and I joined in late Stormblood so I've been playing about 4-ish years now. I'm way invested into the game and learning its systems and have gotten so many friends into it as well, I'm always happy to answer questions or help with content (Golden Grin on Mateus btw) As someone who has anxiety I totally get being worried about playing with others but the community is pretty great and more often than not you're going to have people who listen to you in an instance and answer your questions or take it a little slower if it's your first time. But more and more instances are being added to Duty Support (solo system) so everyone can learn at your own pace. Also for any who don't know, if you get level-locked out of MSQ, just do the last dungeon you unlocked. Dungeons give a ton of experience or do your leveling roulette for the day if you haven't. It does happen with the more contracted 2.0 MSQ nowadays but nothing a few dungeon runs won't solve. I love this game and I love seeing more people love this game. It's a great thing and I can't waitt to enter the next major arc with everyone who has joined over the past couple of years.
I think what I love about XIV the most is that they focused on making a great RPG and FF game first and MMO second. Often in MMOs there's a feeling of aimlessness or lack of progress, despite following their stories closely and, in some cases, that can make you feel more like an NPC than anyone relevant in the story. Like, where other characters are far more important to the story than yourself. Having you play the WoL from the start immediately fixes that by having the story and the Eorzea itself change around you, instead of the other way around. I do believe that, in a very distant future, when the servers go offline, they'll be able to preserve this as a single player experience and it'll still be just as amazing as it is right now.
Since you said you want to go back and check out things you missed AND you said you're into lore, you should check out a series called the Scholasticate (12 quests total). Big picture: it's the story of how Ishgard's founding myth got past down through the generations from one archbishop to the next. There are a couple of requirements, one of which you've done for certain. (1) you must finish Heavensward. (2) You need to finish the Hildebrand questline from 2.x -- not that Hildy is in this, and it's a very serious quest line, but you need to meet someone first from that questline before you can do this one. (3) You need to complete the level 56 quest Keeping the Ledger from the NPC named Mathye in the Jeweled Crozier (market) area of Ishgard (x: 6.3, y: 9.4). Mathye also offers the first quest in the series titled Contradicting Convictions. Anyone into FFXIV lore in general and Ishgardian lore in particular should do this series.
So I am subscriber between 1200 - 1210 and I am putting this comment here because my sweet Heather I am so proud of you for just being you and doing this channel and making it engaging for everyone to watch and I can't wait to see back on this channel in 1 year and celebrate your accomplishments! Truly keep going in following your heart!
To sort of share my own starting experience cause your video really got me to remember it, mostly from the community aspect, my friend convinced me to play by saying he would play with me since I was sort of off and on about it, long story short he got us into this random FC and ended up not playing with me but I loved the story so much because of where I was at the time that I just kept going and the FC was there for me if I ended up wanting to do anything that needed a group and they were all just super awesome, so I guess I sorta had an opposite experience than what you were talking about in your video, I may not be in the same FC now but most of us are still friends and hang out from time to time which is just amazing, in my new FC I met my current BF and we are getting married in game next week and as wild as it might be to say this game has just made me a happier and better person overall, the story is absolutely amazing, all the things you can do and all the people you can meet just encourage you to try everything, and believe me I consider myself a decent player while my BF is more hardcore, he laughs at me everytime I die cause I get so sad and upset cause I’m trying so hard to be “good” cause it doesn’t really matter cause I’ve died less than some others in the party, anyway I wanted to say thank you for making this video cause now maybe I can use it to bring in more friends who are skeptical and also as a p.s. Behemoth is the best world on Primal haha
the pure fact that being the person dying the most during a raid gives u the most commendations already speaks volumes to how encouraging and loving the community is ^_^
It is always welcome to hear a new players perspective. Specially after I pretty much benched everything until 6.0 without playing anything elso from the time I started playing. It is true that some instances can induce anxiety... been there when I started playing as a tank, and hope you have encountered the best of the endgame players rather than the low end of them... not everything is sunshine and rainbows. Glad to hear you loved the "ecosystem" allowed by the devs and built by the players and fans of different areas or content... I hope you can go throw side content as it is almost everytime important for both world building or weaving in important story plot points. In the end, enjoy the journey as your own personal WoL.
Honestly, skipping A Realm Reborn cut scenes could be problematic because it sets up the history, and the world, all the key players, and a lot of side quests with elements that become important later. Like the crystal tower series. Some of those quests should be part of the main story questline in my opinion. So when people suggest not to skip. Don't skip. Or if you have to because of time constraints, you can rewatch the cut scenes in your Inn room. There's a book on a table that has them stored.
Agreed! I hope no newbies skip A Realm Reborn. Also, the Crystal Tower series is actually part of the main storyline now. I had to do it in order to take on more MSQ.
Love to see this. Sounds like it was a great experience! I love the paralysis when you were raiding--I feel like those kind of gaming experiences have been amped up to 100000 today. You're not really looking at your character in those situations, but the numbers--those glorious numbers that tell you how strong your character is 🙃I've been told that the game is a HUGE social hub, and that there's a community of people that play the game just to socialize and create characters. I think it's great--I want that part of the internet to flourish. Are you going to keep playing the game, or are you moving onto a new one? I used to play WoW before high school, and to the level of trying to get "Realm First" with the raiding guild I was in. I stopped playing shortly after I started HS. I picked it up again in 2020 when the lockdown was happening, and was surprised to see how much has changed. There are some gameplay characteristics that are shared with FFXIV like customizing gear, and a randomized group finder for dungeons and raids. Biggest drawbacks are that the community is driven towards end game, flavor of the month plays, and I don't think the single player experience is as valued as it seems in FXIV. In the end, I deleted my characters along with the game because I wasn't having as much fun as I thought I was having. 😆 Glad to hear Final Fantasy is still a successful franchise. My favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy Tactics. I've actually spent the past two days binging lore and lets plays for it. Been holding off from playing because a remaster is rumored to come out soon. I have been wanting to try FXIV out some time, and you have compelled me even more. Though I might try to get some friends to play with me before I do. Funny coincidence that you're doing a video on a game set in the same world. Keep it up 🙂
I think I'm going to stick with FF14 for a while. There's still so much to do and I love the story so much that I was thinking about re-doing it all again with New Game + 😅 Yeah I don't think I could ever go back to WoW since a lot of the reason why I played was because of the people I was playing with and there's no way they're gonna try it again lol. I think Tactics is the only FF I haven't played. If there's a remaster, I'm in for sure! You should totally try out 14 - start with the free trial! Unlimited hours! 🤩
@@HeatherJustPlay Wait until you go through the side quests and other content. There's so much world building, interesting characters, and lore! Please check back with us after you've done the Hildebrand quests. 😉
Awesome video. Thank you for making it. Started playing myself around May 2021, now around 82 days played. Experienced almost everything the game has to offer besides pvp and current hard content. I'm satisfied with that, at 36 years old myself, I find the hard stuff not to be my cup of tea anymore.
im 29 but i love the pvp the most, it's like caffeine for me. the adrenaline I get always helps keeping me awake when working lol. try the pvp! you might love it. it's short and you don't have to commit to it like doing savage or something.
It's so good right ? I didn't feel the pressure to perform like you did, and I failed numerous times but people are just so nice about it. They see the sprout icon and they just want to help. And that attitude is very contagious, I do the exact same now. I even get excited to see sprout cause they are usually so excited about the msq and want to share.
Hey Heather! Excellent video, I'm definitely gonna use this as a pitch for friends on the fence about playing, especially since we're in the same age group. If you're ever looking for people to play with or want to learn how to play a new class, I'd love to hang out and lend a hand!
Just a quick note/tip, if all the battle effects are to much (esp. for 24 person raids), there are settings to adjust which ones you see. Try having only your party's battle effects on or only your personal effects on so you can easier see AOE markers, floor effects, etc. Hope it helps!
Welcome to the FF14 community is so good to have you! I am glad you have enjoyed the story so much and the game as a whole! I will say one thing don't ever feel pressured to look up a dungeons mechanics. For like you mentioned spoilers on who the bosses are kind of ruins the mystery. If you mess something up its fine ^^! Ask for help or try to learn on the fly! I know its easier said then done heck I myself want to be perfect and not mess something up like a boss mechanic but outside of savage raiding I don't think it really matters if you mess up. Anyways I hope you continue to play FF14 and have a great time with it. Play it your way and have fun on your journey as the Warrior of light!
Love this video! I am really impressed with how patient and optimistic you were through your playthrough. And I feel bad that you felt pressured to know a dungeon's boss mechanics on your first attempt, as I'm sure you're now aware that most players don't mind when sprouts are clueless or not as fast, as long as you're having a good experience. In fact, it's generally frowned upon when players rush to a boss before a sprout is finished watching their cutscene. Welcome to FFXIV! I'm sure your friend's list is going to be bursting full if it's not already.
Congrats on making it through the entire story! (a bit of an incoming rant) tbh, it always irked me how a community that prides the game on having a good story, suggests it's newcomers to skip ARR and "to get to HW." I'm also very sure you've been told that SB wasn't very good. But the reason why HW was so good was because of the build-up from ARR. ARR was where Alphinaud begins his development. It's when you met Moenbryda and learn about Aurasite. The Crystal Tower and The Void. It brings Midgardsormr and confirms Omega's existence. It's how you met Aymeric and Haurchefant, both of which set you on the path to reach HW in the first place. And what makes EW so special was how it made every thread and expansion in FFXIV matter, ESPECIALLY ARR and SB. And SB was never bad. It just didn't make people cry like HW and ShB did. I really hope "skip to HW" stops with the advent on Endwalker.
Part of the problem ARR had was that some of early dungeons, including the ARR ending ones, were really bad until this year's updates. Run-cutscene-run in Praetorium was awful but, with this year's changes, it's become quite decent.
This is very similar to how I felt when I started playing FFXIV when Stormblood launched. I chewed through the MSQ in about 2-ish months as well (my pace was obviously a little slower than yours), and... I've never looked back, and never let my sub lapse. I go on break, play other games, go on gacha game binges or try out other MMOs, but I'm always coming back in to play regularly.
I have been playing Final Fantasy 14 since the launch of it on ps3 and I have been enjoying it every step of the way. Now that I have it on my pc and PlayStation. I tend to look back and be like holy cow I went on a journey. And now I get to help others enjoy theirs. I am always down to hear other players excitement about the game. I also love it when players gush about it.
11 was the best game I ever played in my life , I don't play games anymore and haven't played 11 since 2016 but I still think about that game and occasionally watch streams on it
I played the game when it first came out but had to stop because of money being tight at first, so the original grind of early plays was though but enjoyable still. I came back like a good year and half ago due to being injured from a car accident and it became my passion and dedication. Went from lvl 1 to 90 and loving it. Meet friends on the game and the anxiety of playing with others was my only issue, but the community mostly is open and understanding. I play as a tank main and dealt with anxiety of messing up and causing others to lose a long run, but they just walked me through it. I grew to love this game after being gone for over 10 years and coming back to it. Just got my wife into it and she loves it after 2 days.
I started playing FFXIV back in June 2021, I really enjoyed it then burned myself out and took a 3 month break. I got back into it shortly before EW came out. Now I can't put it down, it's so much fun and the story is amazing. More than once did the onion ninjas get me. I'm near the end of EW and can't wait to get into 6.2.
I did the EXACT same thing! I made a whole video essay on FFXIV just so I could talk about it and send it out to the ethos while low key trying to get my friends to play. I still am only playing solo and dream of the day that my friends give the game an honest shot. I fell in love with this game and it's easily the MMO that I will always come back to. I put in 200+ hours and have yet to start Heavensward if that says anything. I also started to drive my partner crazy with talking about it so often. I love that you focused on the community, your initial feelings and relationship with the game. It's a very personal connection. I wanted to focus on the specific in game pieced that made me fall in love with it; aesthetic, narrative and gameplay progression. I have never been so involved with a game that treats it's playerbase with so much love and respect, it's such a welcome change in the industry and that makes paying for the game all the more worth it.
So a heads up, I have been playing FFXIV since HeavensWard, and to this day I geek out about the story, this includes ARR to EndWalker. I will continue to geek out till I no longer play this game (which I will continue till the shut down the servers or I am no longer here lol). I am glad you enjoyed the story as much as you have, currently one of my co-workers/good friend of mine is currently playing through and is currently in mid ShadowBringers and every time he gets to a story beat that happens that makes his go "wow that is awesome" we just chat it up and just gush over how great the story is. Also to talk about how you feel about going into dungeons blind, I have done this since the start even with dungeons that was in ARR up to the time I started. I have learned just saying "first time" in chat helps out as if its "difficult" trial/dungeon and a wipe happens most players will be okay with that, also asking in chat what the mechanics are you will find out at least one player will help you through with what to do. I love seeing a new person in a dungeon and will take it as slow as that new player wants.
Hi Heather, I watched that vid last night and it really summarized my own crazy run in FF14 over the summer. I couldn't express myself better than you did regarding how newbies experiences all the anxieties when joining the community. While still in ARR, so many times, I wanted to give up playing for it felt like a soap opera with a boring combat system. I came from Lost Ark if that help to understand. Initially I was only planning to use the subscription to finish the main scenario and move on like I usually do on so many games. But now I share your excitement for I found myself being drawn so much into the story and its characters, they feel like family and a place for comfort to get away from all the crazy #$%t that happened in this world. No other games ever gave me such a warmth feeling and my FC who helped me along the way is priceless. I was trying to visit your world and seek Oliver to give a big hug, but seems like the system dont allow it. :)
I haven't heard anything about Lost Ark but yes, the FFXIV characters feel like family! Sorry we can't meet in game but thanks for sharing your story here 😄
the clip of you looking at all of the animations going off at the same time was 100% me my first time running the labyrinth of the ancients 3 years ago haha immediately after that my FC-mate who was running the patch content of ARR with me was like 'yeah turn off other people's animations just so you can actually see everything' and it was a lifesaver haha
Aww man I felt this video on so many levels. Being in my 40s and having irl friends who are so busy "adulting" (kids etc) that don't play as much games as I do, and you want to share a special moment in a game and you end up sounding like an idiot when you gush about it lmao. I been playing FFXIV since 1.0 and there's been so many moments when I wanted to scream, yell, cry and share with someone irl but none of my irl friends are rpg gamers.. So frustrating sometimes. I've met some really nice people in my FC so FINALLY I have people to geek out with when new patches and expansions and features are announced but I totally understand what pushed you to make this video. Welcome, and trust me when I say the team behind this game really give a fuck and are something special. So don't feel weird about diving in head first with your time/money etc.. The memories I have from thousands of hours over the years are truly special.
Omg since 1.0!! Crazy - that's awesome! I have the biggest smile on my face reading your comment about how much joy FFXIV has brought you over the years. Makes me so happy!
Yoshi-P understands that not all gamers are built to be thrown into multi-player content blind. That's why he, and the rest of the devs, have been going back over the previous expansions to improve the single player experience. I love Trusts, and I will generally do a dungeon a few times with Trust NPCs before I jump into Duty Finder, just so I have a grasp of what I'm supposed to do. I don't think a good single player experience is a bad thing. Some MMO purists want everyone thrown in together, and they can't or won't see Trusts for the awesome gateway-to-group experience it really is--but Yoshi-P does recognize it, and that's what matters most.
I've been in a few Discords & fcs where they weren't interested in the story. So glad I found Syndonic Scribe's discord. I was in line for their panel at lunar con. & The Jesse Cox line. That mad lad stayed there for almost 10 hours to get everyone through
Hey a lot of the comments here are talking about the topic of the video, but I gotta say for a new channel your production with both audio and video are incredible. Keep it up. You'll get those subs in time. Seriously there are people in the space for years with more scuffed setups.
One thing as a FF14 player that I find endearing about new players is how excited they are to see things in the game I've glossed over for so long. Whenever I play old content its like I'm able to experience it again through them with fresh eyes. I think in large part of what makes the community so eager is a shared memory and emotion of being that newbie, learning that fight, or seeing that cutscene. Which I think goes so perfectly with the themes of the game!!!
It's wild to think I first tried out this game back in the 1.0 days. That didn't last long and I shelved it until after Heavensward was released. I'm just now getting to the end of the MSQ all these years later. I kept getting sidetracked trying new jobs, side quests, crafting and gathering, but I finally committed myself to completing the darn story and I'm almost there. It's been a journey! So much so that going back to places like New Gridania actually feels nostalgic, haha. And yeah, I still get anxiety about group content. You explained how I feel perfectly! I always worry I'm slowing down the group who has run the dungeon 100s of times already. That juicy exp bonus for the daily roulettes always gets me over my discomfort and it's usually fine so I don't know why I worry. I'm sure it would be different if I had friends to play group content with but my social anxiety keeps me playing mostly solo. And being in my late 30s with no kids, I feel ya on everyone being married with kids and too busy for such things as FFXIV, haha.
Man your review made me soooo damn happy. I've been playing this game for 1,5 years now, with only few breaks in between and I love it to bits. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you have questions despite not being a "newbie" anymore, feel free to let me know.
Savage and Ultimate are really the only things you should have some idea of mechs unless you are going in blind doing first week prog or that is how your raid group is set up. Also don't hesitate to let you're healer and party know you are new. As a healer main I appreciate the heads up so I can keep an eye on you and as a mentor so I can help you with mechanics. The atmosphere in XIV is so much more chill than most MMOs until you get to the end game high tier content.
Honestly, for the vast majority of dungeons you really don't need to know the mechanics, cause almost none of the dungeon mechanic will straight up wipe your group. And for the most part, the FF14 community is very welcoming, so don't worry about it.
Hey loved your video! Pretty much mirrored my experience. I love this game and it's hard to explain to others. I'm on behemoth so I'll reach out. If you ever need or want someone to run a dungeon, trial, raid with you let me know! I'm what you call a hardcore casual player. I meander and take my time getting through msq. I'm easily distracted and love discovering new things in this game. I had a LOT of anxiety about group content just like you. Luckily I found an FC that is super supportive of any style of play. They really helped me a lot when I was ready to try group content. I was terrified of tank and healer roles. Now I'm in a raid static (can't believe it actually) and I'm working on leveling up every job. I have alts that I created JUST to replay ARR again cuz I really didn't pay attention the first time and regretted it. I loved it so much that I've played through ARR 3 times now! In game I'm Raunwyn Walker. FC is PRISM. See you in game!
I've been playing FF14 since February of this, and I had a friend who helped me with stuff I didn't know about. I'm still in the post Stormblood story mainly because of the side content or leveling other jobs. I was barely in the Stormbloods story because I wanted to get the Garo sets and mounts. Frontlines isn't easy to get 10 wins with a garo title equipped. You could play the story or you can do other content that opens up new dungeons, raids, trials, etc and you can get to know more of the lore
Seeing the news about the new expansion reminded me of this video. Watched it again this week and it inspired me to resub and jump back in! Thanks again for such a great introduction.
Aww this makes me happy. I haven’t played in like a year but I’m feeling the same. With Dawntrail around the corner, I might have to jump back in too! 🤩
Great Video. Always love to see the Perspective of a new Player. Specially since they started to revamp the old ARR Dungeons and letting to play it solo with NPC's. Playing this Game now for nearly exact 9 Years. (2.0 came out on August 27 2013) but i also played it in the 1.0 Version. Its good to see how they make this game more convenient for new Player and make it more and more beginner Friendly with every expansion. You can really see the Team still has the Passion and Fire for this Game even over the last 9 Years. Welcome to Eorzea 😆
It took me about ~350 hours to play through the main story of Final Fantasy XIV (A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker). It was a slow summer at work 😬. Also, if you want to play together, my character's name is Oliver Benley and I'm on Behemoth! This video is SPOILER-FREE!

ayy behemoth crew. great video! glad you're enjoying the game. i started back in may of 2021 and its like the only thing i play now and i still have a ton of stuff to explore and do lol
Playing the entire FFXIV in 2 months is like watching 5 seasons of a TV show that lasted for 10 years all at once, it just feels so good
YES! And I couldn't get enough!
I just did it in 5 weeks. I feel it.
*lost fans begin sweating*
I definitely know that feeling of being so filled with love for FFXIV and wanting so badly to talk to people about it. I've been playing for a year now and I'm still desperate to get more of my friends to play because ugh, it's just so good. I hate that people kind of dismiss it because it's an MMO. It's honestly such a unique and incredible story experience because you get so attached to your WoL and they're the hero. I played WoW for well over a decade and I never felt even remotely attached to my characters in that game like I do to my WoL.
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! It's just so, SO good.
What server are you on ?
YES THE MUSIC. I can't believe I didn't mention the music at all in this video.
why is "mmo" in "" ?
get into hunts, we had last two weeks like 260 people in every zone.
@@GhostAeonWolf I'm of the mindset that FF14 is more of a MORPG than an MMO. i can't really put it in words, but nerdslayer Studios did a video about it and I happen to feel the same way.
Here's the link if you are curious
th-cam.com/video/QIsv6ESBFrU/w-d-xo.html
@@phinks5368 Let me guess: Aurum Vale? 😏
@@phinks5368 sounds like Aurum He-i mean Vale. That place is a pain in the ass haha
Don't be anxious, everyone was just as bad when they started. You're bad because you're new, that's nothing to be ashamed of.
@@HeatherJustPlay Will do! 😁
Have fun with shadowbringers and endwalker story! They truly are incredible experiences
You guys are the GOATs.
Yay! I hope she does! 🤩
Started a couple of weeks ago. You really hit many similarities I feel with this game. Great video!
"This is a game that I love so much to the point where I’m slightly sad I’ll never be able to experience it for the first time again."
yup. this right here.
THISSSSSS.
Welcome to the community! \o/
Awesome video! I'm still a sprout a lvl 55 Dragoon. I love this game so far!
Sprouts unite! 🌱 I'm so glad I started with a dragoon! I feel like the class quests for the dragoon really add context to the storyline!
@HeatherJustPlay It's a fun class and the memes are amazing too 🤣Big time the story for it is fire! I can't wait to progress through the main story some more LVL 34 main story quest to do. The side quest content is to good!
Dragoon best job.
Dragoon is probably my favorite job in the game right now. It feels so damn good once you get your complete rotation
You’re in you’re element! So glad you’re enjoying 14 and happy you made this video!!!
Very impressive, I just finished shadowbringers 5.0 loving everything about the game!
Enjoy the ride!
Sweet summer child 💕 get your tissues ready and prepare to be crushed in EW!
5.3 is so good as well!
@@zackfair6203 5.3, 6.2 and 3.3 are the best patches for sure! 😎👌
Aww this comment made me so happy! 🥹 Thank you! More videos on the way! 😄
I just started! I'm excited. I'm level 34 and LOVE IT so far! Ty for this video!
I think it's scary at first but you get used to it pretty quickly, and not having spoilers is really nice
Also not having anyone to gush to about the game is very relatable. And you risk turning away your friends if they feel fed up with you bringing it up all the time haha
Amazing Video, Forge Ahead!
Awww this makes me so happy! We had such a similar experience! Glad we both gave FFXIV a try 🤩
I stopped playing in April 2022. Work scheduled changed. I miss it so much. I played from 2013 to 2022. I miss it.
Also I’m Taygete Astrophel on Famfrit!
I've never heard it referred to as the gamer's retirement home but that's the perfect description for it hahah.
went searching to see if it was spoiler free, description said it was! thank u in advance
THIS WAS ME!!! I was obsessed. Like many days of sunrise to sunset, straight playing 😅
"I wanted to experience the game, but I had to read up on the mechanics so I didn't cause the party to wipe."
THIS IS SO TRUE. One of the few times where I didn't do this was the Tsukuyomi boss in Stormblood, and man... it was an experience to play that without reading up on it beforehand. I felt a bit scared, not knowing the mechanics, but once the boss music started playing, I felt so ecstatic. I felt as if I was in command of the army doing my best to keep everyone alive in the face of the unknown (played as a tank.)
That experience alone is why Stormblood happens to be my favorite expansion, even if the reviews aren't too pretty about it.
I have some questions for Heather, and other players whom prefer the more solo aspects of the game,
What do you like to do after completion of the MSQ?
I am still trying to get her motivated to play, but she mostly gets on now to do Island Sanctuary, a holiday event for glamours, or will wait until new MSQ is added and have me play her character through it lol
What gives here?
Nice recap! I'm happy the algorithm reccomended your channel!
I've been playing since Heavensward was the new expac and I love seeing people getting into the game and discovering a love for it. This was awesome to see
Yep I started in April that year, so months before HW. Now I have barely played it for 4 years, just the story and thats it.
You can turn down the size of summoner pets?? Thanks for the tip!
@@HeatherJustPlay yes, you can. type:
/petsize all small (or medium / large instead of small)
try it at least until you see small Titan - it's super cute :D
Oh wow thanks for the tip!
I'm way invested into the game and learning its systems and have gotten so many friends into it as well, I'm always happy to answer questions or help with content (Golden Grin on Mateus btw)
As someone who has anxiety I totally get being worried about playing with others but the community is pretty great and more often than not you're going to have people who listen to you in an instance and answer your questions or take it a little slower if it's your first time.
This was the video I needed to get back into FFXIV after a long hiatus. Thank you!
Thank you Ash! 😭 Your words mean so much to me friend! 💜
Omg you met your BF in game!! That’s amazing!! I actually met my husband through TH-cam. Love how much joy this game has brought to your life! 💜
the pure fact that being the person dying the most during a raid gives u the most commendations already speaks volumes to how encouraging and loving the community is ^_^
It is always welcome to hear a new players perspective.
Glad to hear Final Fantasy is still a successful franchise.
There's still so much to do and I love the story so much that I was thinking about re-doing it all again with New Game + 😅
Yeah I don't think I could ever go back to WoW since a lot of the reason why I played was because of the people I was playing with and there's no way they're gonna try it again lol.
I think Tactics is the only FF I haven't played. If there's a remaster, I'm in for sure! You should totally try out 14 - start with the free trial! Unlimited hours! 🤩
There is a lot of love for FFTactics in FFXIV, specifically, a whole 24 man raid series in Stormblood and a end game zone in Shadowbringers.
I'm too scared! 😱
PVP is a huge part of the game. Trust me you are no where near done with everything. 7000 hours here and still lots to do
As a FFXIV newbie myself, for me this is the best MMO experience ever. The FFXIV is the most friendly i met yet. Best game
Thank you! And I only have 4 friends on my list so feel free to say hi haha 😅😄
I was only told that "it gets better at Heavensward." Nothing about SB. I loved all of it!
I’m always shocked at how nice the veteran/mentor players are. They always have advice and seem always ready to help
Just watched your video! I can't believe you haven't started Heavensward! I'm so excited for you and the journey I know you'll be going on! 🤩
Thanks for sharing your expérience about ffxiv, i'm an old player. My girl friend just started it. I hope She will love it as much as you dis :)
Thank you so much! This means a lot 😊 Already working on my next video!
Wow 1.0 days! That's amazing. Also great to meet you! Thanks for tuning into the livestream! 😄
I'm so glad you gave ff14 a chance! Welcome to this awesome community, adventurer :)
Oh wow! What's a raid static? Yes, please say hi and let's connect! 🤩
Awesome video! Would love to see much more TH-cam content from you in the future. Amazing video quality and really well thought out discussion.
Thank you! More videos on the way! 😊
@@HeatherJustPlay Do it!!! I’m finally REALLY hooked this time. I’ve been playing consistently. I just entered Stormblood. So. Good.
Wow since the 1.0 version! Congrats to you! That’s amazing! Makes me happy knowing that you still love this game after all these years 🤩
