To be honest I keep hearing professional say this but I don't agree because if you were to sleep on your left side and cut the blood flow off to your arm and I don't think that's going to be very healthy if you continue to do that I don't think this is a very sound study and I don't agree with some of the professions that are saying because if you cut the blood flow often enough you can have heart problems so I don't agree I think the only good position would be the back in my opinion

The sunnah way of sleeping is sleeping on right side
As narrated in the hadiths below, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) used to sleep on his right side putting his right hand on his right cheek.
    Narrated Al-Bara ibn Azib (ra),
"When the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) used to retire to his bed, he would lie on his right side and then say, 'O Allah, I surrender my soul to You and I turn my face to You and I entrust my affair to You and I seek Your support with hope and fear of You. There is no refuge from You but to You. I have believed in Your Book which You sent down and Your Prophet whom You sent.'" (Bukhari)
    Hudhayfah (ra) said,
“When the Prophet (pbuh) went to bed at night, he would put his hand under his cheek, then say, ‘Allaahumma bismika amootu wa ahyaa (O Allaah, in Your name I die and I live).’ Then when he woke up he would say, ‘Al-hamdu Lillaah alladhi ahyaanaa ba’da ma amaatanaa wa ilayhi al-nushoor (Praise be to Allaah who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).’” (Bukhaari)

+Deceived Society When you reach 45 years of age , you should sleep on your left side to prevent stomach acid from draining up into the esophagus . The valve at the top of the stomach that usually prevents acid from entering the esophagus looses it's elastic properties . The acid then drains into and will burn a hole in the esophagus . This is a very common problem among seniors and causes major problems . So if you are over 45 yrs old and don't have heart problems , it may be a good idea to sleep on your left side .

having a medical background i think this speaker is ignorant about human anatomy.sleeping on the left side affects your health as the heart and stomach occupy alot of the left side.the heart cannot pump the blood well and you feel numb due to lack of blood circulation.the liver on the right side exerts its weight on the left side thus affecting the organs on the left.while sleeping on the right is the best position of sleep giving the heart enough space to pump blood to all parts effectively.i am sorry for the misinformation given in this video.

No, sleeping on left side side is bad for heart disease because the left anterior descending artery is highly susceptible to plaque formation. By sleeping on the left side you are applying additional pressure on the LAD which can trigger angina, arrhythmia, or heart attack. If you don not have diagnosed heart disease and you experience strange chest discomfort when lying on the left side then you should investigate quickly to make sure you do not have unstable heart disease.

Good info, I have always slept on my left side for all the reasons mentioned, especially to help the stomach empty completely by gravity, and to take pressure off the liver, so it can work better to detox your system during sleep. BTW, to all those saying it puts pressure on the heart, that is utter nonsense. It is impossible to squeeze or put pressure on your heart by laying on either side, because your heart is protected by your breastbone (sternum) and your ribcage. The sternum must be cut with a saw to perform open heart surgery. CPR can squeeze the heart, but that's because you are using alot of force during compressions, not just simply lying on your side.

I watched this video a couple of weeks ago and decided to try a ten day period. I did five nights on my left and five on my right. I ate roughly the same things and went to bed at the same time. The five days I slept on my left side I had pleasant dreams and woke feeling refreshed. The five nights I slept on my right side I had bad dreams and a couple of nightmares and woke feeling a little depressed and ended up being a bit short with people. Result is that there really is a difference; if you want pleasant things in life then sleep on your left, if you want to be in a bad mood then sleep on your right. Nobody was more surprised at the reults as me, as I am the ulitimate sceptic, but on this occasion it really does work.

Whenever you go to bed, perform ablution like that for the prayer and lie on your right side"
      SCIENTIFIC facts:
It’s best to sleep on your right side, because your liver is your heaviest organ and if you sleep on your left then it will cause you discomfort, because it’s squishing your stomach.
Sleeping on the right / left side with the hand under the cheek:
      1. organizes the heart pulses.
      2. permits the sleeper / asleep person to breath in very natural, perfect way.
But who sleeps on his tummy, suffers the following:
      1. temporal dyspnea
      2. his neck’s vertebra get harmed and will have pains on the long term.

you are completely wrong, Today science tells us the best sleeping position, medical science tells us that its health to sleep on ur back or on ur right side which we (muslim) were told 1400yrs ago by our belove prophet muhammad (saw).
Sleeping on the right side does not let the weight of stomach & intestine to suppress heart, hence blood circulation is not affected.
By sleeping on the right side, the heart remains in the topside, one will not have a deep sleep. A little noise can prepare some one to face any contingency. It also develop the habit of early morninng rise

He said prop yourself up a little with two pillows and sleep on your back. From the first time I did this I've not experienced the CTS since, I was compressing the nerve. Also for those of the female persuasion sleeping on your side does cause premature unsightly wrinkling of the neck/chest area.

I wanted to share something with you that has really greatly helped my sleep... I sleep on a double futon. It's neither stiff, nor too soft... It applies pressure like acupressure. And I find myself sleeping for a while in each position, rotating my body and it's almost like getting a really good massage. Also, I take a calcium/magnesium capsule about an hour before bed. I sleep deep and wake up very refreshed...

Sleeping with the bed raised 6 inches / 15cm at the head end (Inclined bed therapy) assists the digestive system, the lymphatic system, cerebrospinal fluid circulation and boosts blood flow, while lowering the heart rate by 10-12 beats per minute and respiration rate by 4 to 5 breaths per minute. This also increases oxygen sats. Your body temperature will become more regulated, cold hands and feet in bed will become a distant memory. Varicose veins also deflate over a period of 4 weeks. If you examine your veins while on the bed in the morning, you will see a huge difference. Over months, varicose veins become flatter and more normal looking. Puffy eyes in the morning will also become normalised. Use blocks, bricks, books or furniture raisers to obtain these and many more positive changes in your health and well-being.

Conversely, laying on your left side causes your stomach to work harder in moving food towards the small intestine (pyloric sphincter) which is on the RIGHT side. Laying on the right side allows for gravity to aid the stomach contents in gastric emptying, while laying on left side causes your stomach to work against gravity. I've noticed this with others and myself. Laying on left side produces bloating and gas, pain, discomfort and cramps in the abdominal region.

I can only sleep on my stomach! I used to sleep on my right side up until I was fifteen years old, then I joined the merchant navy. I tried to carry on sleeping on my right side but I kept rolling back and forth when the ship was rolling. One of the old shipmates said the best way to get to sleeping is to lay on my stomach with my left knee pressing up against the bunks board, that way you don't sway back and forth, so from then on and up to this day I can only sleep on my stomach. When I lay down on the bed to sleep I do at first lay on my right side but have to eventually turn over on my stomach to fall asleep.

I don't believe anything from what she says. Contrary to what she said, I always slept on my right side and never had heartburn, and always had a bowel movement when I woke up. Sleeping on my left side squeezes the heart and you cannot breathe properly.
Gravity would not let the stomach empty down easily, as the pylorus which is the exit of the stomach, is on the right side. Sleeping on the left side would give you more heartburn, as the food stays in the stomach, not getting to the pylorus, then heartburn begins.

The best sleep my wife and l ever had together, was in Las Vegas at the Luxor. Every night when we hit that comfortable king size mattress and huge fluffy pillows, we fell asleep within seconds. We both had a wonderfull sleep. And, when we woke up in the morning, we were both in awe at how well we slept. l don't know if l slept on my right or my left side, and neither does she, but we both agreed that it was awesome. And it wasn't just that night, but every night for the week we were there. And it wasn't because we were drunk or worn out from gambling. We both agreed, it was in the quality of the mattress and the pillows. And just for your information l'm 74 and she's 32 and we never sleep on our back.

Dennis Sphatt.....I knew that I shall receive negative reactions simply because I mentioned something about Islam and I was hesitant to join in the topic, but I wanted to share something that I know about this issue ( sleeping on right or left side).
Dennis...Do not be confused between Islam as a religion and what those crazy terrorists do, they are using the name of religion to justify their politically motivated agendas.
Those people (isis, taliban, elqaeda, ...etc) are very good tailors, they take verses from the Quran away of their context, and tailor them to fit their purposes and only fools and ignorants follow them. Today Dec, 16 a 12 years old boy was arrested by German Police for trying to implant an explosive device in the Mall for Christmas and he has links to isis, I am sure that this boy does not know how to pray, it is a disaster.

Its perfect and without doubt that sleeping on right side is right. It is good for heart and digestion both. The stomach drains into the intestine on right side. Don't go to sleep soon after having your meal. All of this is scientifically proven and also was amazingly and wonderfully taught 1400 years ago by the Greatest human ever, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

ght side is singled out for a number of reasons, such as: this lets a person wake up more quickly; it also allows the heart to lean towards the right hand side. Ibn al-Jawzi said: the doctors have stated that this position is more beneficial to the body. They said to start by lying on the right for a while, then turn over to the left, because the former aids peristalsis and sleeping on one’s left side facilitates digestion.

True. Science and Islam go hand in hand. Everything that is revealed in the Holy Quran is confirmed by modern science including the existence of extra terrestrial beings (jinn) as well as earths similar to ours (Surah Talaaq), the stages of foetal growth in the womb, the tectonic plates and fold mountains. Only ignorants rant on about things they have no knowledge of and criticize the Book and it’s adherents without ever reading it. It takes patience and perseverance plus an open mind free of evil.

If you have a fatty liver which MILLIONS of people have they tell you to sleep on your RIGHT side because the liver is on your RIGHT side and if you sleep on your LEFT side the extra weight of the liver will be pushing down on your heart. So never mentioned that in this video lol.

I don't agree with the theory as sleeping on the left side you get wet dreams and it applies immense pressure on your stomach

Sleeping on your left side can present with some serious, perhaps, life threatening problems. #1: your stomach cannot empty well, leaving you with undigested food and increase in fermentation and gas production. This can erupt into the esophagus during the night causing discomfort, heartburn, really bad morning breath and the gastric contents may even empty into the left lung causing pneumonia. #2: Sleeping for long periods of time on the left side can cause increased pressure on the heart. For people with arrhythmia, heart failure, valve disease, even hypertension the excess pressure can worsen symptoms. Sleeping on the left side for short periods of time is OK for people who can do so comfortably. Sleeping on the right side can help empty stomach contents into the small intestine, relieve excess pressure on the heart and improve overall sleep.

I've had that too but when your heart gets better you can sleep on the left side. It's a sign your heart is in good condition if you can sleep on your left side.

obviously this doesn't apply if you have congestive heart failure or cardiac hypertrophy. If you haven't already, go see a doctor :)
