Paxton was a phase and she was impressed by him! That's all in my opinion, they are better as friends and i loved their last Scene so much! It takes my like 2 weeks to get over shows being over!!!!! I definitely recommend this show!! This show and Ginny and Georgia are probably the most realistic high school shows!!!! Was anyone else really let down by S4? Like s1-3 were amazing, I’ve rewatched them so many times, but when I watched S4 it just didn’t have the same energy, it felt like it was missing something, but I just can’t figure out what. Maybe I was just sad it was ending that it didn’t feel real! But I don’t know how I feel about Ben and Devi ending up together. I just can’t forgive Ben for what he did to Devi after they slept together. It was so hurtful and cruel for him to completely ghost her and move on with Margot after they slept together. That whole thing was stupid and I think it was a way for the writers to kept Devi and Ben apart until the last episode. I actually can’t believe that Devi forgave him after he slept with her, ghosted her, got a new girlfriend, stopped talking to her because Margot said so and then Devi is just like oh yeah no worries Ben we can be together. Like what the actual heck! Plus there’s still a huge part of me that wanted Devi and Paxton to be together, they really didn’t get a proper go. They were only together for 3 episodes in S3 and that was it, it wasn’t enough time together. And even Maitreyi (who plays Devi) said in a recent interview that she is team Paxton, sooo there’s that too. I honestly think the seasons could have been way more stretched out, there could’ve made like 6-7 season of this. The first 4 seasons at school, and then after school. But I also want the backstory of Devi’s mum and dad, and a season where Devi and Paxton end up together, I think they were better together anyway.
People have been complaining about the real life 11 year age gap between the actors playing Paxton and Devi since 2019. 17 and 28 in the first season, 21 and 32 in the most recent. I like the actor who plays Paxton, but I think the age difference and the fact she wasn't even a legal adult when he was almost 30 in season 1, made it harder to write romantic scenes between them, and the feeling just continued into the other seasons. The creators probably recognized it was more appropriate to have the actors playing Ben and Devi getting more physical on screen, they had good chemistry, and it worked out that a portion of fans prefer Ben and Devi to Paxton and Devi.
paxton was never going to end up w devi. she was infatuated with him and used him as a coping mechanism for her dad's death, so he was important for her character growth, but they were always better off as friends (this is proven especially by their s4 dynamic, which is MUCH healthier and more enjoyable than the immaturity and instability of their previous dynamic). he taught her a lot about herself and she helped him in similar ways but realistically their story was never really about romantic love, and instead about lessons in self confidence and pushing the people you care for to change for the better. he's a valuable character, but it was obvious that ben and devi would be endgame from the very first season lol.

Every season was ending with a Ben cliffhanger, even season 2, where she was with Paxton, but still the season ended on Ben realising Devi wanted to choose him. So I do feel like it was always Ben from the start. The story just focuses on a lot more of that, and there was so much to learn on the way. Paxton is not just nothing to Devi. They learned so much from each other. But Ben is more a romantic partner to Devi, and Paxton was more a dream, and later luckily, a really good friend. I don’t think that’s sad, I really love how their friendship grew.
