Shin pads of my youth were massive, with ankle cushions, but oddly they seemed a lot more comfortable, these days on the street courts or in coaching arenas I don't require them. Having said that I'd go with something that covered a good proportion of my shin KB
My take on shin pads - don't judge your shin pad choice off what the pros do!! Assistant referees with earpieces, VAR, 20 cameras filming the game in slow motion with retrospective bans available has totally cleaned up professional football and "leg breaker" tackles are almost a thing of the past. None of the above can be said for Sunday League though. Still some madmen going around flying in for stupid dangerous tackles, so when they fly in for you, you want to be protected.
I’m a small/light shin guard guy, but it’s because it’s more comfortable, the touch is better (sometimes it hits the bottom edge of the shin guard which is so annoying), and if you really think about it, unless you have cinder blocks for shin guards, they won’t protect you from and super serious injuries. They mainly are for protection against minor cuts and bruises but it won’t make the difference between a broken leg or not.
I mean if you get sturdy shin pads, they will actually distribute the impact rather than have it in the same concentrated area so it will theoretically protect you from the cusp between broken or not
I used to wear the smallest shin pad as I could because I trained will the Nike training socks and never wore shin pads because I felt more free without them. However, last season I went into a 50 50 when the other guy came sliding in but I touched the ball first and touched it past him and then instdad of him sliding into the ball , his studs went into my leg and broke my leg (btw his studs were showing and was a very high tackle and was a red card tackle). This then made me miss 6/7 months of football and I'm still trying to get back to my old self. Afted breaking my leg, I do feel like I'm not the same as before and get pains during the game on the leg where I broke it. So when I play football games I do now wear a pretty good size shin pads to cover my legs but in training I don't wear shin pads. After breaking my leg, it's definitely important to wear shin pads because I used to believe that I was never gonna be that guy to break a leg until it happened last season.
Wreqeh sorry to hear about ur leg man I’ve torn my acl twice blew but I sorta disagree with u on shin pads because you can wear the most protective shin pads out there but if the guy did/does go studs up in to ur leg the shin pads aren’t going to protect u from breaking a leg
I suffered a broken tibia several years ago and it is the most excruciating pain you can imagine. A couple of weeks ago-- I did not wear shin guards-- I got kicked on the leg twice, one kick left an egg-sized lump in the middle of the leg and the other kick left a big hematoma just above the ankle, that eventually travelled down to the lower part of my foot and caused swelling of the leg for a few days. Yep, I'm all for shin pads, the bigger, the better
The Wilson shin guards are really good, I had them for three year and still use them. I have never felt any pain from getting kicked in the shins since I started wearing them. They are light and have straps, but you can also slide them in if you want and they feel really comfortable either way.
I use carbon fiber with storelli leg guards. As a keeper I value a lot of protection in game. My testimony on it is a tackle I had where the opponent and I had a tough tackle and he was carted off field, and it broke my carbon fiber shin guard. Which was replaced for free because of a lifetime warranty🔥🔥
I think it depends on how you feel while wearing them. Like if you can move around the pitch comfortably wearing large shin pads then go for them. Obviously you have to consider your physical abilities. If you are lean and thin like me you should go for medium size at least. These are just my opinion. Best content as always.
I like to wear my G-Form shin pads for game as I’m a defender and it’s a must. But for training I enjoy not wearing any shin pads because we don’t try to kill each other in training
Team small shin pads right here, for 2 reasons. First: big propper pads won't make a difference when it comes to real inrjuies, they only protect you from bruises etc. Second: they reduce the sensation of free movement and over all makes you feel a bit "clumsy"
I would say for younger players, maybe even up to the age of 18 shin guards should always be worn, and they should be the most protective possible. This is because players bodies are still developing and are more susceptible to serious injury that could really screw up their physical development. Once they're 18 sure go do whatever you want you're an adult.
I am I the only one who watches the uni sport skills every single day wow I definitely developed after watching this channel for skills 🔥🔥 KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!
I agree that big shin pads are not so light and don't feel so free but small shin pads like those kroos was wearing aren't so comfortable don't offer this pure secure fit that makes you feel premium . Also big shin pads are more protective and if you take the right size then it would be in my opinion the best option
I play hockey so I don’t get the big deal. You get used to the gear. Seeing as footballers like to lay on the ground and cry for 10 minutes anytime they get poked. I use regular size not too big not too small and clear stretchy hockey shin pad tape and never had issues. I forget about them after warmup for sure
Shin pads are important every player for defenders attackers midfielders ang goalies too cuz every one has one ramos in team to break your leg also when shin pads gets hitted by ball u feel no pain
hey guys, you might not read this but if you do, i’m very grateful for that. i have a good short story about the beautiful game. my father grew up poor and he always used to play football barefoot, he even cut out pieces of cardboard to make shin pads. now he moved to america and can afford these things and when i came in and first played football, he bought me some shin pads and somehow i HATED wearing them because they were so thick and bulky. i played many games where i made some shin pads out of cardboard and believe me when i tell you they are far more comfortable as if you were wearing nothing. but of course since i am in shitty america, i had to buy shin pads to play in or the refs wont allow me to. but i do prefer the “perfect” shin pad: not too big, not too small (but a bit on the smaller side) thin, and flexible, basically something that has that cardboard feel to it😂 it’s a weird coincidence that even tho he never told me about himself wearing cardboard shin pads until a couple of years ago, i always wore cardboard shin pads when i was young (of course i had to sneak them and replace the bulky shin pads when they weren’t looking since they don’t allow me to play in them) i hope someone also played in cardboard shin pads😂
Alejandro Miranda bro shitty America? This is the country that gave your father a chance at raising a family, and the reason ur here right now so count your blessings. You are in the best country in the world.
This is very late comment but shinpads is a must especially if ur that type of guy who goes on 50 50s alot. Enjoyed the video guys Interesting views and comments, based on the majority of comments I can’t help but think if they’re all relying on their shines and ankles to control a football ⚽️ then maybe that’s the issue they need to address rather than blaming the size and position of a shin pad?
BIG SHIN PADS are the best. I've always loved big shin pads because it feels more comfortable and it covers more area and I like it. Also it feels like a giant soft sock on your leg, well it depends on the type of shin pad but I like the big ones to my taste.
I don’t train with shin guards, but in matches when I need to wear them, I like guards that fit most of my shin, but not too far down because of the shin pad touch
If youre going to break uour shin itll be the lower half. The half near the knee has more muscle protecting it . The lower half is basically skin and bone no matter how mucular your legs are . So low cut shin guards are fine but you will get some nasty welts if they kick above it but breaks i doubt
It’s basically like this: some players would prefer NO shin pads at all. Why? Because they protect their shins by avoiding tackles they anticipate the opponents tackle and MOVE out of the way. I was once that type of player a speedy winger who LOVED over zealous defenders jumping out of the way and leaving them swearing because they not only missed the ball but also me. And even if I did get a knock it wasn’t too bad because my weight was off that leg so back then I wore the smallest shin pads the ref would allow. (Shin guards were mandatory but no rule said how big they had to be) but... I then got older and slower and time after time I got whacked far more often as for going in to tackles IF your doing it correctly YOU should NOT be making foot to shin contact or even shin to shin you should not be hitting anything BUT BALL. I still hate big shin pads because the ball bounces off them oddly and I find they get in the way when trying to cushion a ball that may bounce up just as you try to trap it and you end up using your shin or lower leg to trap the ball without a shin pad or a smaller one I have no problem keeping soft control but with a big bulky shin pad the touch is off as you have less feeling. Kind of the same for boots some prefer boots with padding others want to feel the ball.
I personally hate shin pads because no matter with which ones I have, I feel bulky with them on my legs. So I often go for the smallest and lightest ones, like the Nike Mercurial Flylight in a small. To my surprise I actually enjoy wearing those shin pads since I litterally can not feel them at all.
I’m on the side for shin pads and I only recently decided that shin pads should be worn because a week ago I was playing and went shin to shin with a kid and the impact was so hard it broke my knee so I’m out for the season I cannot walk and now need surgery, make sure you wear your shin pads
Can you guys review those shin guards? I usually go to the webstore and not be able to tell which one to get because idk what each one has to offer, especially the ones on the table.. I of course have heard of the C6 agility but that is way too much for shin guards for me. Cheers and keep rocking!
I usually pick the bigger one, not the biggest ofc, at least i can feel safe whenever i got charge or slide. to be honest, i didn't find it annoying at all unless it flimsy and touch my ankles. i found the strap or tape is more annoying than shin pad but if you dont want to use Shin Guards at all i recommended you guys to train Muay Thai.
I am too I'm an central defender or an right-back I prefer playing as central defender but I'd go for medium but I use big and protective when we have to play against a dirty opponent aggressive playing against the rules and ref does nothing

Defenitely not those with ankle protection. They make it more difficult to enter your shoe and they will downgrade your level of play

I like shinpads with no ankle protection. The concept is so stupid and it will not allow you to play freely football. Your controls will get worse.
Blij you’re right, it also feels so good when someone steps on your ankle and you can’t play anymore. Hasn’t it happened to you before?

You have not gotten a direct hit on your leg bone then yet my friend. If you feel your leg there is no protection what so ever to the leg bone.
I mean if you get sturdy shin pads, they will actually distribute the impact rather than have it in the same concentrated area so it will theoretically protect you from the cusp between broken or not
