    Here is my review of the Moza Racing R5 Bundle. This is Moza's Racing's budget-friendly direct drive system, and is the cheapest direct drive racing wheel bundle on the market currently.
    In this Moza Racing review, I will also answer common questions like "is direct drive worth it to upgrade to", "is 5.5 Nm of torque enough", and "moza racing r5 vs fanatec csl dd".
    You can learn more about the Moza Racing R5 direct drive bundle, including where to buy it, here: mozaracing.com/wheel-base-r5

    I got rid of my CSL DD to get this and have not been disappointed one bit. Much more practical for a desktop racer, much smoother force feedback, and just get the brake mod for $30 and it's a wonderful system. The wheel is surprisingly good and the quick release is so much better than the stock fanatec offering it's just ridiculous.

    Mike,
    I bought the Moza R5 bundle a more than a month. After 2 weeks the on/off button on the back of the unit stopped turning the unit on. I immediately contacted support and was sent a list of programs to try and resolve the problem. Pretzel logic from support. If one cannot turn the unit on how do you know if the programs worked. Three weeks ago, after I tested the power adaptor with a multi-meter (which gave me 33 amps instead of the required 36 amps) and after several more contacts with support, it was decided that the power adaptor was the reason for the problem and a new one would be on its way. Still more contacts, but finally today they said the power adaptor would be shipped tomorrow. I have asked for shipping confirmation. All of this being said, I am NOT HERE TO COMPLAIN about the support or the wheel itself, as I was very much impressed by while it worked. I just think people need to consider the idea that if something goes wrong, can it be fixed in a timely manner and how far away China is from your hometown. Within the first week of dealing with the Moza support, I purchased a Logitech Pro setup. Awesome wheel. I know you probably don't want to get into a discussion on your channel about this, but the location of the manufacturer and support might be something to reference during reviews.
    Keep up the great videos as you have provided me with a lot of really good information.
    Sincerely,
    Lyle Tortuga (Jack Crow)

    Just bought the R5 bundle yesterday, can't wait to get it online and in use. I guess I fit the demographic Moza is targeting and as you described, the casual PC sim racer who's been using a gear/cog driven Logitech for a bit and wants to dip my toes in the DD world without spend thousands of dollars. I do wish they had an option or bundle that didn't include the pedals or, like you suggested, maybe another entry level wheel. And to be totally honest, I was pretty set on the Fanatec CDL DD but those things have been out of stock for months and there's no way I'm paying what the scalpers are marking them up to.
    I do like how I can upgrade the wheel down the road if I want though. I wish they also had a power supply upgrade to increase the torque, but coming from my G29 I am really expecting the R5 wheel base to be next level for me. Man, this really is an expensive hobby!

    bought this as my first wheel ever.
    was kinda shocked about the FFB strength so i took it down to 30% first then worked my way through 100% FFB. but i must say, the wheel is smooth and silent (big plus on silent as i play a lot at night). table clamp is strong enough to handle the 5.5Nm as well. pedals are good for first timers but i plan on getting the brake mod soon. being small also makes it easier to store as i don't have a dedicated rig for it yet.
    overall i wasn't disappointed with it. i may not be as fast in Dirt Rally 2.0 than when i'm using a controller yet, but i'm having more fun using this compared to a controller. glad i bought this instead of the T300RS GT.

    Fantastic Review and great video, Mr SimRacing604. I have to accept that I will never be a rich person, so everything I buy will have a "budget" element to it. So after watching this, I think I have my next wheel and my first foray into the DD metaverse so to speak. [:]-)

    If they had just a base and wheel combo, I don't want the pedals.

    • @flyingphoenix113
      @flyingphoenix113 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a lot of people feel that way. The SRP load cell pedals seem fairly well regarded versus the CSL load cell pedals and Thrustmaster TLCMs (especially if you get the alternative spring/elastomer kit). But, these SRP "lite" pedals are a massive downgrade. One of the few Moza Ls thus far.

    • @buzzfightbeer8023
      @buzzfightbeer8023 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They sell it as a bundle as the pedals are higher profit than the wheelbases. That is how they keep the price for everything lower as a whole. Pedals are probably VERY cheap to manufacture.

    • @tver
      @tver ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can buy the base (clamp) and wheel separately, but that wouldn’t be much cheaper then the bundle indeed.
      The pedals themselves are likely the breadwinner for Moza, being very cheap to produce as metal stampings.
      The pedal set resale value is also very limited since (unlike the SRPs) they do not work stand-alone, unfortunately.
      However.. for those of us starting out, the pedal set with the brake performance kit might still be good enough, being equal or better than the T3PMs.
      When the time comes to buy the regular SRPs or something even better (i.e. CSL Elite V2) the pedals (and/or the sensors and control box) might be repurposed/modded to form a handbrake and possibly even a hand clutch for the ES wheel..

    The only thing I can think of, as to why it doesn't support console is because they probably know they could not keep up with demand. This would sell like hot cakes on my opinion.

    The r5 bundle is perfect for casual desktop racing. It’s almost borderline too much. It also feels like a solid piece of equipment compared to the t300rs that I upgraded from. I’ll probably keep the base forever.

    I have ordered this bundle with the brake mod thx to your reviews and am eagerly waiting on the shipping. Couple things to note would be that there are supposed to be options for console use( I wouldn't call it compatibility though, maybe its ok. I'll prob find out soon enough anyway)but the biggest and most import reason for choosing the Moza over the csl dd is availability. I can actually own a Moza! The csl has been sold out for months and months. Who knows when theres going to be some on the market with all the global economy logistical monkey turds. Thx for all you do Mike :)

    the standard profiles by moza are good but definitely not perfect. took me a couple of days to tweak the settings. also note that the pit house software needs to be running for the rev indicator to work edit: the table clamp is SUPER solid and all metal (not like the cheapish plastic fanatec uses)

I checked out the link here for the Formula wheel, which would be a must have if I went with the Moza. Having spent a fortune on the SF1000 Ferrari wheel a couple of years ago, I'm hoping there will be a bundle of the Formula wheel and R5.

    • @SixxiePlays
      @SixxiePlays ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonasclementdk Hi yes have seen the reviews and considered that but as Mike mentioned I can get the Fanatec setup @ 16:07 mark for 600, The T818 base alone is 650, even with the T818 being 10nm, personally I can't justify 650 for a base alone. Yes, I can use my existing Thrustmaster rims on the T818 but I'm on T3PA's pedals so looking for a complete overhaul. The Fanatec setup I have picked out comes in around 700 with P1 wheel, and Mclaren CSL Elite GT3 Wheel added on.

    • @jonasclementdk
      @jonasclementdk ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SixxiePlays Fair enough. I'm holding on for the T818 personally, as I currently have a T300 with T-LCM pedals. Not sure I'll take the plunge but just swapping the base is what makes the most sense for me!

      @SixxiePlays ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonasclementdk I totally get it. I follow a professional GT3 racing driver David Perel who drives for Ferrari and and he’s also heavily into sim racing. I’ve heard him say the first thing to upgrade should be the pedals. And after racing on friends equipment I’m noticing my pedals aren’t cutting it. Even playing around with the brake saturation I’m learning tons of time can be lost/ gained in braking alone. So that’s kinda pushing me for a complete overhaul.

They have been sold out for so long. They may as well not exist. If ever they become available I will probably buy the dd pro, I’m just feeling bitter right now because they can’t make a product available to purchase.

    Hey Mike
    I think you forgot 2 more negatives for this package besides no console compatibility:
    No upgrade path for the wheelbase to more power and no loadcell for the pedals you basically have to replace the gear for incremental upgrades as beginners start growing in the sport/hobby.
    And regarding console compatibility you Fanatec is the only manufacturer that has 2 wheelbases that offer compatibility on all three platforms if you purchase the right wheel.
    That is what I am doing now and the ease of use can’t be overstated!
    Mind you availability for Moza in Asia is a lot better than in North America
    My buddy is waiting for his R9 for 4 months and it’s been delayed twice with no date offered by the seller.
