    The plasma spray system is generally used for alumina, zirconia or titania based ceramics, while the air cure utilizes a proprietary inorganic/organic polymer based ceramic.

  • @Cerakote
    @Cerakote  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The plasma spray ceramic coating system involves heating a ceramic powder via a plasma jet onto a substrate. The flame accelerates the ceramic particles, converting them to molten droplets, which collect on the substrate and solidify to form the coating. NIC Industries air cure ceramic coating involves spraying a liquid ceramic, which hardens naturally in ambient air.

    While the C Series is the best performing high temperature coating available in the industry, the Cerakote H series coating has better overall performance when used on non- high temp applications under 500F. Keep in mind that H Series can be used on most firearm components other than optics and can be cured between 150F and 300F depending on the material being coated. Please refer to our training manual in the resources section at Cerakote, com for specific cure schedules.

    Can the Cerakote C series air dry be used like the H series and be oven cured on parts that are safe to expose to the oven curing process ? In other words can I bake cure my slide if I apply the c series air dry Cerakote ? Thanks for the help and great video but even better product

    i have used cerakote on many of my customers and my own firearms and will never go back to duracoat and am looking into doing other products like engine parts, do you think this coating would hold up on a drag race motor?

    Is Cerakote C more durable then Cerakote H when used in a non-hi temp application?

  • @Cerakote
    @Cerakote  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The main difference is in the plasma system a user starts with a solid powder, and must use the plasma flame to convert the solid into a liquid, which then converts back into a solid after being coated onto the substrate. The air cure system begins with the ceramic already in liquid form, and then converts to a solid once coated on the substrate. Another difference is the cermaics involved in each process.

    I understand that the H series is a better corrosion inhibitor but how does the C series compare to H in abration resistence?

    Hi,mind to share what is the different of air cure ceramic coating spray system compare to Plasma spray ceramic coating system?
    Thanks

  • @Cerakote
    @Cerakote  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    While both the H and C series coatings are extremely durable, the H series is a better choice in a non-high temp application because of its industry leading corrosion protection. Please call us at 866-774-7628 if you have any further questions.

    When applying c-series how long should I allow that item to cure before I add the stenciling and second coat?

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It just has to be tack free, which depends on humidity (the more humid, the faster it cures), but generally that's about 30-45 minutes. May be best to do a test piece to get a better read on when it becomes tack free in your area.

  • @Cerakote
    @Cerakote  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The H-Series has a hardness rating of 9 in ASTM testing, while the C-Series has a hardness rating of 6 to 7. You can see all our test data at CerakoteGunCoatings(dot)com.

    Does the part not require a degreaser soak prior to blasting in something like simple green when this product is going to be used?

    • @Cerakote

      You will want to make sure the part is clean prior to blasting, but it does not require a soak in degreaser.

      What the hell are you talking about? You do so do it - do you actually know what Insulkote is used for??? Let me just share what NIC says about this product:
      From their website - Insulkote (Oven Cure)
      Item: W-209Q
      Description:Insulkote is an oven cured ceramic coating that is typically used as an internal thermal barrier coating on exhaust. The most common use for Insulkote is as an internal coating for exhaust pipes, headers and manifolds.
      - So - do you know what "internal" means???
      My Application trainer does this all the time at his shop - Ive seen heaps of different pipes and headers etc with this coated on the INSIDE!!!
      I already have been Certified and gun coating with their products for years and have also been using their Prismatic powders - I'm booked in for my Automotive applicators certification next month and was inquiring of people that may already use it how they do it to compare with the methods I will be taught - which IS part of the certification....
      Clearly you have no experience or are a certified applicator....

    Is there a color that can be used as a grey primer?

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, Cerakote does not require a primer and we do not recommend putting any other coatings over Cerakote as they will not adhere properly.

    i work in a manufacturing environment with gas fire pits, our engineering team has been researching basalt to be used as a so or flame retardant an heat dispersion, how would cerakote hold up against direct flame engagement under diffrent weather conditions?

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      H-Series will have temperature stability up to 500*F, while the C-Series will be stable up to 2000*F an any weather conditions.

    C-Series should only be used for high temp applications between 500F and 1700F, such as full auto and suppressed full auto applications. All other applications, including semi auto suppressed firearms should be coated with the H Series Cerakote. C-series should also be used to coat optics and other substrates which cannot be thermally cured between 150F and 250F.

    why after the sandblast do not wash the part with acetone for example? if I wait the part completly dry before paint ?

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can just blow it off with some air and you'll be ready to coat. You could blow off, then wash again in acetone, and let completely dry but it adds another step and there could still be wet acetone on the part that would not allow for optimum coating adhesion.

  • @billy99100

    It says the parts can be installed 24 hours later.. But then it says Do Not Use parts until fully cured 5 days. I read on your website. The video says you dont need to wait the full 5 days? Can I install my exhaust and run my car 24 hours later?

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Parts are about 90% fully cured after 24 hours, so you can install the parts, but we recommend not running them hard until a good 5 days of curing.

      @@Cerakote thanks for the quick reply! Would it be necessary to spray the inside as well? And also what life expectancy does this have and about how long would this last before it starts chipping or burning off? Or should I be able to expect many years out of it?

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends a lot on the use of the engine - there are several top fuel drag teams that use it successfully, though unfortunately we can't say who per NDAs. But if the big boys are using it....

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You wouldn't want to fully cure the base coat if you are doing two coats (colors) - there is no reason to do two coats of the same color as one coating of 1 mil will provide best results.

    • @Cerakote
      @Cerakote  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately yes - once Cerakote is cured, it does not adhere to itself. You want to be sure to liberally apply the coating to fully wet out the part.

    • @Cerakote

    • @Tuffenough4u
      @Tuffenough4u 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He is referring to the plasma applied coating that was originally developed for the nuclear industry that leaked it's way down to aerospace and automotive industries over time. Not sure why it concerned him enough to post about it "as if you guys made some sort of false claim", because the idea of self application is more or less a pipe dream reserved for the rich and or major parts manufacturing facilities. It's not even in the same category in regards to application complexity and accessibility and not worth mentioning in retrospect.
