I love that the whole 12 minutes of video is recorded using the Remus lenses. A lot of reviews just have like a tiny bit of b-roll that looks cool but you cannot see the whole thing. Thanks for making this video!
@@findingefilm hah! All good dude! I know, I posted a long friggin video! Yeah I totally agree, I wish they would add that in. I actually show with it WITHOUT the monitor and just used the cameras LCD… it’s still workable but you’re obviously looking a funky unsqueezed image, but it’s doable! 🙃
Thanks for the video! I'd be interested in seeing them mounted vertically to get the more square format out of 16:9. I'm sure you've seen the video, where you turn the camera sideways and mount the lens facing the new up direction. Would love to just see the difference in FOV between the three lenses mounted that way! 🙏
very good! Could you tell me how these lenses work on the micro 4/3 sensor, on the Panasonic Gh7, in relation to edge distortion? Is it smaller or larger than on a camera with a super 35 sensor?
As a lot of people might already mentioned, I really like that you put many different videos together. You said it could be boring, but this is what I want to see in a Lens Review. I don't care about the people talking in the foreground, all I want to see is how the lens performs 😂 I think it's very good that you've mentioned all the specifications, such as which camera you used, which flare option, which focal length, etc. Not every TH-camr is intelligent enough to mention such things in a review. 🥲 I ordered the 45mm with the new silver flare option. Maybe I get the 65mm aswell if I really like those. I am really hyped for mine. Thank you for making the video!
dude! heartwarming comment! THANK YOU! I'm so glad this is what you were looking for! I just subbed to you so looking forward to what you put out there! Thanks again friend!
Thanks for sharing your take on these. Nice to see them in someone else's hands! These things get really nice over T5.6. The flares come alive, sharpness is really good. You just gotta feed it more light.
Awesome examples of the Blazar Remus lenses. Real world usage! Nice job. I am considering these vs the great joy 1.8. I do like the remus more, but i am afraid of the softness and CA issues at wide open.
Man thanks for sharing! Excited to get these soon. 2x is probably better used on 4:3 sized sensors, 1.5x is great for the majority of sensors. Open Gate I believe they call it.
I am very excited for these lenses! If I can find an excuse to buy the 65mm this year I totally will! I've seen that the softness on the 100mm cleans up nicely if you shim it following the blazar yt channel.
Thanks George! I just put a link in the description for the ones I used. I recommend +1 or +2 for closeup shots, but always good to have +4 and +10 in the event you need to get SUPER macro! Hope this helps!
@@dandobi My man, may I ask you one more question? Out of the 4 - 33 (announced recently), 45, 65 and 100; which two focal lengths would you recommend? I am an amateur filmmaker looking to shoot documentaries and short films. I can only get two (on a non-existent budget) and would love the combination to be versatile. I was thinking the 45 and 100. Would love to know your thoughts though.
@@watzmaaname yo yo! hah, yeah the 45 and 100 would be my picks if you could ONLY get two. I wouldn't think too hard about it, you'll have a wide and a super tight... you'll be good : )
hey there! thanks! I did not shim the lenses at all! I think some shots might be cleaner/sharper than others... all dependent on if I nailed focus and what stop I was at! hope that helps!
Really nice review. I’m a subscriber now! 😊 Which option did you buy, considering you are using a Sony which I believe it uses e-mount? I own a Sony fx3 and I’m a bit confused because I don’t now which option should I get, PL or EF. Can you help me? Thank you very much! Big hug from Portugal ❤
Hey dude! Yup! On Sony over here. I would go with PL to be honest. Very versatile and can go on a lot of systems in the event you change what you’re shooting on in the future ✌🏼
Great video. Btw did you shoot this in super35 mode or with active stabilization on(it crops by 1.3)? I am asking as I would have expected more distortion twards the edges.
Oh man! I was thinking the same thing. All the videos I’ve seen of this set show egregious distortion. To the point where if someone walks across the frame, by the time they reach the side they are super skinny. I know that’s to be expected to some extent with anamorphic but it didn’t look good to my eyes. This is the first video where I’m now actually considering them. How did you manage to make them look so good?
@@galenbeals3538 Btw, if you check LaLa Land or even the recent Ren Faire you will notive these egregious distortion very present and embraced :D In the meantime I got my own set so i'm like 99% that it was cropped somehow. Worth mentioning that you can very easy the distortion in post to the point where the edges are more usable.
@@joshsmith3219 Yeah, sometimes I'm fine with it but a some of the footage I've seen it just rubs my the wrong way. It's just not something that I personally prefer. My preference for the vintage anamorphic look is the blurring/softening at the edges rather than full on distortion. But again, that's just me. However, if it's easy enough to lessen the edge distortion in post then I'll probably end up getting them since the whole set is less than most single anamorphic lenses.
Just a follow up: I did get my own set and am delighted to find that the distortion that was present in some other videos here on TH-cam is not at all an issue on my camera. I have a ZV-E1 which is the same 16:9 sensor as the FX-3. My theory is that the videos where the distortion was really bad were most likely shot on cameras that shoots open gate (Full frame Panasonic, Blackmagic Cinema camera 6k, etc.) This allows you to show the entire frame without having to cropping off the extreme edges to fit it into the 2.39:1 aspect ratio. This is normally a great thing since you're not having to throw away the sides of the image but in this case, I think that extra bit of side view is where most of the extreme distortion shows up. SO shooting on 16:9 cameras essentially crops out the distortion... At least, that's what I think that's what's happening. Feel free to correct me if you think this is wrong.
@@galenbeals3538 I think you are correct. But yeah the only reason you dont see the extreme edge distorition is because you cut it out, by it with your sensor size(by using APS-C or smaller), or on post production :D I also got my own set in the meantime, and shooting a comercial on them as we speak :D
Great video, real and raw…not boring at all 🙏. Hope to see more content with the remus lenses.
