    Nice tip!
    BTW - I just discovered, if you control+click on the Chain window you can zoom in :)

    Wow-great video....just bought a PYLE PTED 06 desktop drum kit, and I've watched about 3 different automation vid's for Ableton and buddy, you've explained it the best!!!! Thank you so much. Chris MacKinnon Montreal, Canada!

    Can you make templates for a DrumKAT version 3.5.

    Great video, spot on. You mentioned automating MIDI from a Roland TD-50. Would love to see a video on that!

      Thank you so much! I would love to! The TD-50s are beasts, can't wait to get my hands on one again!

    Is it possible to make a DrumKAT 3.5 template?

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve personally not used a DrumKAT yet, but having a quick look it seems like it’s a very similar process to the SPD-SX in terms of MIDI!

    Really enjoy all your videos man, you explain things so clearly.
    Was just wondering if you could do a video on the SPD SX regarding how to make your own backing tracks or click tracks and what's the first step in doing so.

    Harry, I bought an Alesia Samplepad 4 in hopes that I could set it up as a midi controller to use with Ableton Live 12. I don’t want to use it to control the clips. I want to use it to play the drum racks within Ableton. The device is not in the drop-down menu of control surfaces in Ableton. Is it possible to configure this?

    • @DrumElectric

      Oh interesting! I’m surprised I haven’t made a MIDI control with the Alesis Sample Pad 4 video yet. I’ll get on it as you can do this (I believe!). If you send me an email, I’ll let you know when it’s out!

    Great video. Any chance you could explain how to implement the TD-2O into Kontact Studio Drummer? As a layman, I'm trying to use the midi from this VST. Thanks!

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much!! I sadly don't have a TD-20 to hand, but it should be a case of going from USB-out and into Studio Drummer. I tend to find it works best when going through a DAW like Logic, but Kontakt should work stand-alone too. You may need to dive into the TD-20 settings and change the MIDI outputs to match that of Studio Drummer though, and that could take some time! But it's worth it in the end!

    Thanks for this vid! Is there a way to send patch changes from ableton to the spd?.. For situations where I still want my SPD to be the source of sounds.

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is! Although sadly at the moment it's a bit more complicated than I can put into a TH-cam comment. I'll be making a video on it soon!

    Hey! Do you find any latency issues when you’re using the SPD to play samples in a drum rack? Even at a low buffer size I’m having a latency problem would love to hear some suggestions!

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Interesting! I’ve not had any latency issues and use it to trigger samples on Ableton more than I do built in. How big are your sample file sizes? I wonder if it’s taking a second to load. You can also check if there’s a small gap in front of the sample audio by zooming aaaaaall the way in on Ableton

    • @lukeygee123abc2
      @lukeygee123abc2 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ hey thanks for getting back so quick! I was just using the 909 samples stock in ableton so I think fairly small + with transients right at the beginning. Do you use a Mac with the M1 chip? I have an inkling my 2019 MacBook can’t cop it 😭

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @lukeygee123abc2 a great choice in samples! I do use an M1 Mac, but had a 2017 Touch Bar MacBook Pro that just about handled it. What does Ableton say at the top right when you hit the samples? If it jumps to like 300%, then it’s a computer thing. If it doesn’t, then something else!

    • @lukeygee123abc2
      @lukeygee123abc2 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I figured it out! It was unchecking the delay compensation in preferences, as well as playing with the driver error compensation so that overall latency was zero. That meant that when I recorded audio it was really late with where it landed on the audio track, but to hear the midi device it worked well. So not optimized for recording but seems to be working for playing midi devices. Thanks for the help - I used your swapping drum rack patches within different chains in instrument rack tutorial today too. Cheers!

    Does the spd-sx have to have any particular settings turned on or off in order for your spd to be recognised by Ableton? I watched a video that said local control must be turned off, soft thru off, usb midi interface on and midi sync on auto. Did you have to change these settings when you first used your spd as a midi controller? Thanks legend!

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Hannah! I didn’t have to adjust those settings my end, the only thing I changed was in Options Menu change it to Audio/Midi, rather than Wave Manager. If it’s still not triggering where you want to, check out the MIDI note settings on the SPD itself, sometimes you’ll have to change the number and it’ll appear! Some kits have all the pads as the same midi output

  • @hannahmorgan2238

    Hey, one more question. Im programming my SPD to trigger samples live and to a click. Do you know how I could set each samples quantisation so it is locked in with Ableton click even if I trigger it a little out of time?

    • @DrumElectric
      @DrumElectric  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Hannah! Great question. I'm not 100% sure on that one sadly - The only way around that I can think of is to assign the pad to unmute the MIDI/Sample channel that has the quantised notes in. This would make the SPD more of a mute/On - Off switch though. If you find out, let me know!

    Great stuff man, didn't know this was possible but did notice your BT1 change by itself in a previous video! I'm only using Logic right now, I'll need to see if they have something similar. Especially after the latest update which essentially just copied Ableton haha
