As a professional fighter, one of his favorite tactics was the liver shot (both punch and kick), and he popularized its use in MMA. Bas is known for his charisma and has capitalized on his celebrity status since retiring from fighting in 1999. He works as a color commentator in the MMA organization WSOF . He has appeared in numerous tv shows, movies, and video games. He also coaches MMA and has authored several instructional materials.

I've doing these since 2002! Back then I had ordered TAPES, that's right, tapes LOL But as I was a musician, I put the content on my computer, mixed them up, even made some 5 minute rounds, etc.

Bas makes the best instructionals. I have his Street Fighting DVD & his Big DVDs of Combat probably the best ever made. I have seen other tapes from various fighters like the Gracie's and others and I noticed that most of them leave out small details that really make a difference. The others dont really tell you everything which tells me that they dont really care about the students. Bas is an awesome teacher and coach.
I just bought the big DVD set! I know this is two years later but I'm excited! Haha

Bas' stance and combos come from Kyokushin Karate: the only thing that he learned from Muay Thai was punching the head and fighting in the clinch. He doesn't use a traditional Muay Thai stance as its easier to get wrestled with
Those are Muay Thai stances tho
Actually, The traditional Muay Thai stance is 50 /50, fun fact all the stances that Muay Thai fighters use comes from Muay Boran.
@@ryu3019 It's not the same stance as Shogun Rua's : Shogun uses the traditional stance. Bas himself credits Kyokushin for his stance.

@@ryu3019 Kickboxing was brought to Holland by a Dutch Kyokushin fighter called Jon Bluming: he had 2 famous students called Jans Plas and Johan Vos. Jon Bluming owns Meijiro gym, Jans Plas owns Chakuriki gym and Johan Vos owns Vos Gym. Bluming learned Kyokushin from Mas Oyama and then later on learned how to punch to the face from Kenji Kurosaki and Akira Fujiwara.

This was a long time ago, Bas rutten has aged quit wel and is still in prime condition
