One of the things drones will prioritize is keeping your factories running. This means that if the factory output is full because it has nowhere to put the things (conveyors are backed up, storage is full, next factory in line not taking any...) the drones will take from the factory output first (or the first available place in the chain that has removal allowed as conveyors will turn them off) over other things in order to get production running again. So they will ignore other closer sources (elevator, storage bins) to do that first.
In other words, they weren't taking silicon from the elevator because your factories had backed up and they prioritized fixing that first by taking from the first spot in the chain that allowed taking out resources which was the storage bin downstairs.
*hint* if the contract has a "truck" next to it, it's for the Moon. If it's a "rocket", it's for Earth.. :D
As for the Elevators, they might need to go into a storage crate for the drones to pick them up! they can't collect directly from the conveyor elevators
Ah yes, convoluted UI strikes again
Ahh, I never looked at the symbols. Cool Thanks
You'd have a much better time fulfilling contracts with the flight control center properly piped with conveyors, aye.
A few things of note:
1. While you got the tech upgrades for the extractors you DID NOT upgrade any of the machines themselves. There is a roman numeral I in yellow on the extractor detail tab, that's where you can upgrade it to higher levels. It doesn't appear until there is an option to upgrade.
2. You mentioned that you noticed the bots won't take from belts if it's a closed line, but never made open output belts on the top-side elevators for them to grab items from. It should not be needful but doing so could fix the problem of them going down below to get items instead from topside. To play it safe, run a line into a cargo crate with an output belt from each of the topside elevators.
3. The bulk storage containers can be added to the outside perimeter of the mining operation and belted back to the central area or directly into the factory that will use the item for both regolith, slag and rare earth materials. That will free up the back and forth of the bots hauling items around. You could even try reusing a line heading back by adding a filter only for the item coming from the bulk storage( if seperating regolith from rare earth for example).
4. I think there is a problem if you remove the bot reconfigurators without replacing them but I may be mis-remembering. Try adding back the removed reconfigureator.
I waited until watching all the series released to see if you caught any of these issues but didn't notice that you had( unless it happened in the missed recording time). I do hope you'll put out a quick 6th simply to try and see if the problems you've had are addressable with these few new ideas, but else look forward to you restarting the series after if launches into early release.
In my second series, I am doing many of these things. And the new changes to the Ai have made the game must more pleasurable to play, I hope you will check it out!
The bots weren't delivering because the mines with no belts are powered and set to the same priority.
The bots are moving raw resources to the smelters.
All building related work takes priority over any delivery to production.
I think those bulk transport bots from the preview build are absolutely essential, the prohibitive cost of bots makes this early game so damn painful.
Nice to see a continuation in the series. You encountered a lot of things I needed to learn, once you got a few things going with the game mechanics it becomes much easier, but didn't want to spoil anything for you . I will say that I don't feel comfortable with how my drones act until I get at least 30 drones , usually I like to have 50 but I heavily use conveyers. Also getting a rover and cargo going helps a lot with research and resources in the beginning.
The new series (with the Exclusive) title shows off how the devs fixed many issues with priority, etc
It looks like at night you need about 600 power and your batteries can only provide ~300. Build more batteries so more can discharge? @34:40 for example. Or am I not understanding?
Yeah, that's what is needed for more charge. I researched Big Batteries in my next playthrough, which can help with that.
Looks like this is the last one in the season and the fixes look really good in the 1.0 preview season!
If you want to force the bots to empty a cargo container, just build something cheap on top of it. They can't build until they clear the area so they will prioritize moving the stuff first (make sure they have somewhere to put it) and once they finish clearing, just cancel the construction.
Good idea!
Maybe make single resources storage on the surface and turn off pick up on the underground ones
Enjoyed this series, but I can see where the bugs would make it super-frustrating. Hope to see more with the new build you showed earlier today (assuming it solves enough problems to be playable).
Check out my new series (titled with Exclusive), there, they fix a lot of bugs, and the gameplay is AMAZING.
Moon contract nay, nay nay...ok
Was a good series until you started blaming the game for your faults. The priority of the drones is NOT delivering things between building, its moving resources, belts are for moving between buildings. FINALLY you found out to stop delivering rare earth materials and things started to move. Personally i would have set the priority on the building i wanted them to focus on, but thats just the easy way.
And finally you seem to think you have 100 drones, you have 12 and what 5 are set to mine... I wonder why it was "slow".
Regarding more drones, in the demo earlier this year you could buy more on the market
A few suggestions.
Do not rely on drones for doing what other things can handle.
Belst cannot pick up from the ground but transport between buildings.
Drones are there to pick up, as nothing else can do that, and that should be their 1st and only priority, when not delivering goods to fill orders or bulding buildings.
Maybe slow down building, to be able to afford hooking them up completely.
What are you using 5 landing pads for? 1 should be more than enough until you have a much larger production, and far more drones to deliver simultanius orders.
If your drones deliver from the wrong location to the landing pad, maybe line up each type of resource you want to sell, right next to the landing pad.
There might be issues with the game, as it is under development, but if you ask me, just an added challenge to workaround problems. Problemsolving is the real fun in Pre-release software.
Just a few examples of solving issues without having a fit and blaming the poor drones, drones are the ONLY thing that can pick up stuff from the ground, what do you think there priority is? And even though they did not take the Rare Earth mats closest, at least it got some, now it gets none, it has lowest priority. If you ask me, none of the issues you were bitching about seem to be even close to gamebraking, honestly it shows a lack of creativity, and in some form a lack of adaptability to a game that may require you to play differently, cos its a different game.
Your suggestions are weird, to say the least. You have no idea what I am thinking, so stop trying to be psychic.
OBVIOUSLY belts don't pick up from the groun,d. What a ridiculous thing to say.
Drones are needed for many tasks, and that's how I rely on them.
If you didn't understand my issues, then talk to the devs, since they have been making changes to the game for the last few weeks because MANY other players have mentioned the same things I do.
