Similar to Cyberpunk with its ambiguity, Jin’s story is done. I wouldn’t want to see V make an appearance as the main character in Cyberpunk Orion simply because Night City has ample space for other stories and narratives to follow Sure, you can continue it, but in terms of the series looking at other parts of Japan, it would make a lot of sense to incorporate a different Ghost protagonist in a competely new era with each and every iteration.
Yeah I wish there was a way they could’ve done a story with him again but I don’t really know what they could’ve done with him. His story was complete and if they just pulled something out of their asses for Jin people would be very disappointed and say that it wasn’t as good and didn’t live up to the first game. I’m glad they are using a new time period and character. Who knows maybe he will come up in legend

The Legacy of Kain remasters was the only thing that got interested in that whole State of Play. And maybe Ghost of Yotei. Also, Ubisoft continues to be Ubisloppy.

Because the PS5 Pro is still using a CPU from 2018-2019. And Zen 3 and above, will wipe the floor with the the PS5 Pro. Especially the 3D models.

Only game that caught my eye from that showcase was the Lunar collection. Even though the first game got a remake on PSP they opted for the original PS1 style graphics which I have no problem with since Lunar 2 didn't get a remake. Lunar is one of my favorite RPGs and I'm so happy to see it's finally getting some kind of re-release. Because physical copies of Lunar 1 and 2 are NOT Cheap lol.
We’ve reached a point of diminishing returns on these consoles. I think older generations lifecycles will stick around longer after their successor takes off. It’s getting closer and closer to the cell phone style retention rates.
In case people didn't know, the Timesplitters trilogy is available to purchase on PSN, they're not ports but emulations of the original PS2 games, and they play really well in case anyone is interested
How will PC audience react to "better graphics for 10 dollars"? People will make a mod containing the entire thing plus no PSN required. Sony will fight to get it removed, it will stay downloadable somewhere. It's business as usual with PC. That said, all owners of Mafia II and III on Steam got those renamed to Classic and got remasters for free. Only first Mafia Definitive Edition was sold as new purchase but it was basically full blown remake. 2K got it right and had just a little bit of issues with consequences of removing PhysX and some effects to remaster Mafia II because it caused bugs at release. I would never expect Sony to give me free upgrade like that. Even from 2K it was quite a surprising move.

Rocksteady in name only, no-one working there now worked on the Arkham series so the only experience these devs have is the Sushi Squad game. Rocksteady is DoA

Ghost of Yotei stepped on its toes a good bit, but I still think Shadows will be a decent game. Keep in mind that the last AC I played/beat was Black Flag, although I own Unity, Syndicate, Odyssey and Origins.
Thank you for covering Level-5's showcase. I had been a big fan of a number of their RPGs and was disappointed when they announced a while back that they were scaling back on publishing games in the west. It was a fun presentation and I'm glad to see a focus on simultaneous worldwide releases with some titles.
OMG, I dunno how I didn't think about it before... The top USB-C port on the Switch 2 will probably have a sensor bar attachment, giving you precise pointer controls, this is so much better than my initial idea of having it built in on the dock because this way you can still use it in table top mode.
I don't want Rocksteady to make the next Batman game. It's not the same people that made the Arkham games. They disrespected the character and Kevin Conroy. They've lost the privilege to work on such an iconic franchise. Give it to a developer that is passionate about the character.
The Horizon Zero Down remaster is an absolute embarrasment on PC when all you have to do is inject it some textures and mod it to your preferences, no need to shell out even a cent for it to look as good as you want it to be. Ah! It's also quite infuriating that you still need to link to a PSN account. No single player game should be forced to have this useless requirement!
The particle effects, wind sim and the diversity of the movement of the grass and stuff seems pretty next level in ghosts 2, that's definitely what makes the original look of its time
I remember I claimed Horizon Zero Dawn for free when Sony did their Play At Home initiative back in 2021, but I never played it, so paying $10 to hop into the remaster isn’t something I’m opposed to
I got it for free then too and played about 8 hours almost right away and haven't gone back to it since. I have been tempted to play it because almost every person I tell that to says I need to get back into it. Maybe the remaster will get me back into it since it'll look like less of a visual downgrade from the games I play on my PC.

Gamers unwilling to shell out the American price for a PS5 Pro for a normal PS5 in Japan must choose between their PC, Switch or PS4. Capcom must be IRATE that a large chunk of their Monster Hunter audience won't have access to the game. It will be interesting to see what happens in Japan over the next few years. It is definitely going to reshape the console landscape.
@@Angry_Canadien - I can understand that sentiment from a PC player, but if you have the patience to be upset when a PlayStation first party exclusive goes to PC, you’re gonna feel the same way if you get a PS5 for Yotei and that game gets ported years later.
There seems to be a few key contingents, probably with some crossover. 1. Person who watches any given presentation, Xbox, Nintendo, Sony, Gamescom, Game Awards, TGS... says "there are no games coming" 2. Person who doesn't want to pay any money for anything ever.
Lunar 1&2 remastered made me cry! I have been begging gungho for those. Ghost of Yotei is awesome and that monster hunter wilds trailer was sick plus a release date. Sucks it releases same day as new like a dragon. Also fantasian is getting a physical! Soul Reaver 1&2 remastered also nice but wish had blood omen 1&2 too but at least first game and dino crisis going to psn. Also nier x stellar blade. It wasnt best show but was decent
Unicorn Overlord is awesome. Also it exemplifies how the multi-platform strategy helps a lot. Aegis Rim: 13 Sentinels took waaaay longer to get there as it was PS-exclusive for many years.
Been hearing, the narrative that Ubisoft pulled AC Shadows because they want to avoid comparing it with Ghost of Yotei. I'd say that makes a lot of sense, since I've already watched videos of people's criticism on its historical accuracy on things like the architecture and customs of the time. (assets being randomly placed on roofs when they were historically added in specific types of buildings rice fields with no irrigation systems, and being raised in the wrong season, etc) When you compare a game like that to something like Ghost of Yotei, I imagine they already can tell their game won't measure up.

Personally i think that State of Play was solid, the midtake people make is that they go in expecting massive announcements and that's not always going to happen, i'm excited for Ghost of Yotei, Lunar Collection and the Legacy of Kain Remaster and the Astro Bot DLC will be great, i wanted more from that game
How solid ? What's the point of doing a state of play when 90% of games are multiplatform? No new IP, remasters, only one exclusive game (a sequel) will be released on PC shortly after ... They could've kept that show and just revealed Ghost in a blog post ! We didn't see the same thing ! Even the Xbox showcase had more Xbox exclusive games and many more first party games. PS: Lunar Collection and the Legacy of Kain and other 14 games in that show are multiplatform !
I think it is reasonable for people to have expected something massive this year though. With Sony just recently announcing the PS5 pro, a lot of people were thinking Sony would have new games lined up to make people want to buy it even more. Sadly this wasn't the case.

From what we know so far, the Switch 2 will have around the same power as a PS4. This should make it fairly easy for devs to make Switch 2 and PS4 versions of games simultaneously. We may see that the PS4 has very long legs.
Hardcore gamers may get tired of remasters but maybe Sony is looking at it from an attachment point of view: look at how many systems were sold via how many games were sold. In Sony’s eyes there are still a TON of players who haven’t been reached yet and that’s who they’re targeting…..
I'm an "actual" sonic fan. I either want games, comics or stuff LIKE Sonic Prime (the netflix show). I don't want merch, IRL events, mobile titles nor anything to do with the live action movie (because I actually respect the source material depiction of characters).
There is nothing surprising about Ubisoft pulling out of TGS. There is too much backlash with Assassins Creed in Japan right now. Companies are very sensitive to not putting their employees in hostile environments. If an employee gets hurt, that’s a lawsuit worth millions of dollars and a massive hit to the company brand and Ubisoft is not willing to risk that.
I still have physical copies of the originals, but if the remaster is any good, I’ll get it as well. Doesn’t change the fact that I absolutely need to see that series remade to be as great as I remember it when I was younger.

PC audience here. Both Horizon games looked undeniably gorgeous, and as the PS5 is barely the equivalent of a mid-tier PC from 5 years ago, there is literally nothing Sony or Playstation can do to make it look better on the PS5 than a modern PC. Also, I played both Horizon games, on PC, back to back. Graphically, they are nearly identical. 7800X3d w/ 4080. 64 GB DDR5 6000 MHz cl 30.
One thing overlooked from the PS state of play is the seemingly change in stance by Sony towards early access. Pal World is not saying it's at full release status bit also Towers of Aghasba specifically said it was early access. The whole reason Pal World wasn't released at the start on the PS5 was said to be sony's previous stance on early access games.
Rocksteady going back to Batman is like BioWare going back to Mass Effect. Most of the original team that worked on those games are all gone and replaced by social activists. The new product will be similar in name and name only.

I give it a solid D. There were a lot of things missing. Santa Monica, Blue Point, & Insomniac I find pretty bizarre to think they all weren’t ready to show anything.
I cannot stress enough how weird the Horizon situation is. The only game I've paid to upgrade was Death Stranding to Director's Cut which was also $10, but included a ton of new content even if it didn't really effect the story. Song is offering no new content at all, prettier textures and still charging money? Any other publisher, that'd be a free "4K texture pack" DLC.
Not a fan of the stick to what you're good at mantra. People go into game dev to make games not a single game. If RS wants to make another live service shooter let em, if they want to make a turn based rpg let em do that too. Don't force em to be the batman house forever. Plenty of studios found success making things different Tham their normal stuff.
If you don't think of the Lunar series when you think about the Sega CD through PS1 eras, then you just never actually played the games. Lunar was the epitome of an RPG in that era.
It delivered... just not as much as I wanted. I get that Capcom loves Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter, I just wish they would show that love to about a dozen other IPs they currently own. Same deal with Sony not releasing Bloodborne Remastered. It's a broken record at this point that they keep releasing everything but BB Remastered. It's like Square-Enix releasing every obscure 3rd party title remastered except Terranigma Remastered which was arguably their best action game on the SNES. A solid 6/10, 2 of which come from Lunar and a new Ghosts game being revealed.
Ubisoft has recently shown a figure of the assassin creeds characters with a one legged torii gate that is known as a symbol of the nuclear bomb attack. This is wildly inappropriate and just plain stupid.

I’m really excited for Ghost of Yotei. It looks gorgeous and I can’t wait to see all the gameplay improvements. I think maybe somewhere down the line they’ll revisit Jin and end his story properly too with a Tsushima 2. There’s still the second Mongol invasion that happened and I would love to see Jin finish his story, so to speak.

Inazuma Eleven is a game franchise that really hooked me, despite the fact that I cannot stand Soccer/Football and sport in general. It's like Pokemon, but you recruit players for your team/party and they can level up to improve their stats and learn "Dragon Ball"-esque super moves. The stylus controls on 3DS also felt really fun and intuitive to me. The one with the time travel story mode on 3DS is wild. I am looking forward to June 2025
I’m confused as to why Ghost of Yotei takes place more than 300 years after the events of Jin Sakai’s culture change, but I know I need some type of playable closure to his story before I get attached to Atsu.
Not heard much about The Wolverine. But then, as cool as it is to be Wolverine. His powers are almost no different from your typical game protagonist. So I can't pretend to be excited. Just curious.
It's good that Sony doesn't forget their classic games and games released recently like astro or Stelar blade. The old games are always a good way to get nostalgic and it's good that they don't forget about their recent single player games and not just release-forget. I was happy seeing Stelar blade x nier and I can't wait to go back to it
The PC introduced the idea of DLC, paid upgrades and microtransactions they have been core to the PC experience for two decades. A small remaster fee is nothing compared to what PC players already pay for. PC players will pay far more for skins of a gun in CS than the cost of the Horizon remaster.

Ghost of Yotei stepped on its toes a good bit, but I still think Shadows will be a decent game. Keep in mind that the last AC I played/beat was Black Flag, although I own Unity, Syndicate, Odyssey and Origins.
Ubisoft undid themselves now they need to fix their reputation 1st. Show examples of good play alone is not enough.
Thank you for covering Level-5's showcase. I had been a big fan of a number of their RPGs and was disappointed when they announced a while back that they were scaling back on publishing games in the west. It was a fun presentation and I'm glad to see a focus on simultaneous worldwide releases with some titles.
OMG, I dunno how I didn't think about it before... The top USB-C port on the Switch 2 will probably have a sensor bar attachment, giving you precise pointer controls, this is so much better than my initial idea of having it built in on the dock because this way you can still use it in table top mode.
I don't want Rocksteady to make the next Batman game. It's not the same people that made the Arkham games. They disrespected the character and Kevin Conroy. They've lost the privilege to work on such an iconic franchise. Give it to a developer that is passionate about the character.
The Horizon Zero Down remaster is an absolute embarrasment on PC when all you have to do is inject it some textures and mod it to your preferences, no need to shell out even a cent for it to look as good as you want it to be. Ah! It's also quite infuriating that you still need to link to a PSN account. No single player game should be forced to have this useless requirement!

The particle effects, wind sim and the diversity of the movement of the grass and stuff seems pretty next level in ghosts 2, that's definitely what makes the original look of its time

I remember I claimed Horizon Zero Dawn for free when Sony did their Play At Home initiative back in 2021, but I never played it, so paying $10 to hop into the remaster isn’t something I’m opposed to
I got it for free then too and played about 8 hours almost right away and haven't gone back to it since. I have been tempted to play it because almost every person I tell that to says I need to get back into it. Maybe the remaster will get me back into it since it'll look like less of a visual downgrade from the games I play on my PC.

Gamers unwilling to shell out the American price for a PS5 Pro for a normal PS5 in Japan must choose between their PC, Switch or PS4. Capcom must be IRATE that a large chunk of their Monster Hunter audience won't have access to the game. It will be interesting to see what happens in Japan over the next few years. It is definitely going to reshape the console landscape.
I bought a PS4 just for Ghost of Tsushima, I guess I’ll keep the tradition going and purchase a PS5 for Ghost of Yōtei.

Lunar 1&2 remastered made me cry! I have been begging gungho for those. Ghost of Yotei is awesome and that monster hunter wilds trailer was sick plus a release date. Sucks it releases same day as new like a dragon. Also fantasian is getting a physical! Soul Reaver 1&2 remastered also nice but wish had blood omen 1&2 too but at least first game and dino crisis going to psn. Also nier x stellar blade. It wasnt best show but was decent

Unicorn Overlord is awesome. Also it exemplifies how the multi-platform strategy helps a lot. Aegis Rim: 13 Sentinels took waaaay longer to get there as it was PS-exclusive for many years.
Vanillaware's games really fly under the radar for how great they are. Nice to see them get some well-deserved success.
Been hearing, the narrative that Ubisoft pulled AC Shadows because they want to avoid comparing it with Ghost of Yotei.
I'd say that makes a lot of sense, since I've already watched videos of people's criticism on its historical accuracy on things like the architecture and customs of the time.
(assets being randomly placed on roofs when they were historically added in specific types of buildings rice fields with no irrigation systems, and being raised in the wrong season, etc)
When you compare a game like that to something like Ghost of Yotei, I imagine they already can tell their game won't measure up.

How solid ? What's the point of doing a state of play when 90% of games are multiplatform? No new IP, remasters, only one exclusive game (a sequel) will be released on PC shortly after ... They could've kept that show and just revealed Ghost in a blog post ! We didn't see the same thing ! Even the Xbox showcase had more Xbox exclusive games and many more first party games. PS: Lunar Collection and the Legacy of Kain and other 14 games in that show are multiplatform !
I think it is reasonable for people to have expected something massive this year though. With Sony just recently announcing the PS5 pro, a lot of people were thinking Sony would have new games lined up to make people want to buy it even more. Sadly this wasn't the case.

From what we know so far, the Switch 2 will have around the same power as a PS4. This should make it fairly easy for devs to make Switch 2 and PS4 versions of games simultaneously. We may see that the PS4 has very long legs.
Hardcore gamers may get tired of remasters but maybe Sony is looking at it from an attachment point of view: look at how many systems were sold via how many games were sold. In Sony’s eyes there are still a TON of players who haven’t been reached yet and that’s who they’re targeting…..

There is nothing surprising about Ubisoft pulling out of TGS. There is too much backlash with Assassins Creed in Japan right now. Companies are very sensitive to not putting their employees in hostile environments. If an employee gets hurt, that’s a lawsuit worth millions of dollars and a massive hit to the company brand and Ubisoft is not willing to risk that.

Was better than expected. Something for everyone although not heaps for anyone.
PC audience here. Both Horizon games looked undeniably gorgeous, and as the PS5 is barely the equivalent of a mid-tier PC from 5 years ago, there is literally nothing Sony or Playstation can do to make it look better on the PS5 than a modern PC.
Also, I played both Horizon games, on PC, back to back. Graphically, they are nearly identical.

One thing overlooked from the PS state of play is the seemingly change in stance by Sony towards early access. Pal World is not saying it's at full release status bit also Towers of Aghasba specifically said it was early access. The whole reason Pal World wasn't released at the start on the PS5 was said to be sony's previous stance on early access games.

There were a lot of things missing. Santa Monica, Blue Point, & Insomniac I find pretty bizarre to think they all weren’t ready to show anything.
I cannot stress enough how weird the Horizon situation is. The only game I've paid to upgrade was Death Stranding to Director's Cut which was also $10, but included a ton of new content even if it didn't really effect the story. Song is offering no new content at all, prettier textures and still charging money? Any other publisher, that'd be a free "4K texture pack" DLC.
Not a fan of the stick to what you're good at mantra. People go into game dev to make games not a single game. If RS wants to make another live service shooter let em, if they want to make a turn based rpg let em do that too.

If you don't think of the Lunar series when you think about the Sega CD through PS1 eras, then you just never actually played the games. Lunar was the epitome of an RPG in that era.
Shadow 🦔!! I can't wait for Sonic X Shadow Generations!! Shadow been my favorite Sonic character since I was kid.
It delivered... just not as much as I wanted. I get that Capcom loves Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter, I just wish they would show that love to about a dozen other IPs they currently own. Same deal with Sony not releasing Bloodborne Remastered. It's a broken record at this point that they keep releasing everything but BB Remastered. It's like Square-Enix releasing every obscure 3rd party title remastered except Terranigma Remastered which was arguably their best action game on the SNES. A solid 6/10, 2 of which come from Lunar and a new Ghosts game being revealed.

I’m really excited for Ghost of Yotei. It looks gorgeous and I can’t wait to see all the gameplay improvements. I think maybe somewhere down the line they’ll revisit Jin and end his story properly too with a Tsushima 2. There’s still the second Mongol invasion that happened and I would love to see Jin finish his story, so to speak.

Inazuma Eleven is a game franchise that really hooked me, despite the fact that I cannot stand Soccer/Football and sport in general. It's like Pokemon, but you recruit players for your team/party and they can level up to improve their stats and learn "Dragon Ball"-esque super moves. The stylus controls on 3DS also felt really fun and intuitive to me. The one with the time travel story mode on 3DS is wild. I am looking forward to June 2025

It's good that Sony doesn't forget their classic games and games released recently like astro or Stelar blade. The old games are always a good way to get nostalgic and it's good that they don't forget about their recent single player games and not just release-forget. I was happy seeing Stelar blade x nier and I can't wait to go back to it
The PC introduced the idea of DLC, paid upgrades and microtransactions they have been core to the PC experience for two decades.
A small remaster fee is nothing compared to what PC players already pay for. PC players will pay far more for skins of a gun in CS than the cost of the Horizon remaster.
