With travel restrictions lifted within Scotland, me and Piers decided to head to Golspie to ride the Wildcat trail.
We chose Golspie for a couple of reasons, first of all we wanted to avoid the any crowds and figured it would be relatively quiet. And secondly I wanted to hit it again while it is still currently the longest single mtb descent in the UK. A title that it is soon to lose to Nevis Range, once they open their new blue trail.
I'm pleased to say the this place is just as good as I remembered and a damn sight less scary in the dry.

I heard the midges in Scotland were bad, but the one that followed you down the trail was very persistent!

I was at Nevis range on the Saturday and it was not busy it was pretty average amount of people there 👍

You can see where I grew up from there. I love those trails. The standard plan is, climb up, drink water but never pee on the way up, save that piss for the statue! While pissing, remember that a lot of the rich landowners in Scotland don't have great family histories with regards to human rights. Ride the descent and have an ice cream! It is a great day out and fulfilling in so many different ways.

drone image is better than ur camera.
It’s a GoPro, that’s just how they look, there isn’t really anything you can do to make the image look natural. Equally, there isn’t an equivalent camera that can give you as much of a field of view.

@@McTrailRider interestingly polls suggest it’s preferable to keep the monument. If you noticed, it had steel plates on some parts as some folk tried to hammer away the foundations. So whilst what he did was an outrage, it actually serves a purpose in education to keep it.
So many of us that grew up there had serious plans to destroy it. It´s better that it stays and we remember and look at the legacy it has left. Think of it like an outdoor urinal with an important message.

Fairly local so been going since 2008. Broke my cheekbone there in 2011 :) They taped that bit off a few years later ! Really bumpy up the top now tho.

It’s not overly loud, but there are definitely quieter ones out there.

excellent vid, lucky with the weather and still too cold for the midgies ., takes me back to the days when it was new , doing it with the boys from InverG , the GMBC and Doug ( barque mb ) , 10 miles on Ben Nevis must be a blast but still not as long as the 18 k from Ronda down to San pedro .. ty R
The weather was one of the deciding factors when deciding where to go, as it usually is. Doug had left a comment on here about his experiences here👍

My first mtb xc race was Golspie back in the 90s long before there were any official mtb trails. Straight up the front on a walkers track from the town to the monument, then down the back, round the side on an old washed out landrover track to join back up with the walkers track. 3 laps was a killer but such a fun race and typical of the Highlands mtb racing at that time. 75% of the field on rigid frame and forks and everyone enjoying every second.
That sounds brutal! But I suppose back then, it probably felt amazing.
Skydio 2 is such another level when it comes to active track, really adds a whole other dimension to your videos. Loved it ⚡👊🏻

Standard MTB riders. After each run you have to make excuses of why you didnt perform as well as you could have... why does every rider do that.
I’ll have you know I’ve big’d myself up many a time after a run 😜 I’d say we were more just talking about how awkward and difficult we found the trail on this occasion.

We were for our first time in Scotland and only had the chance to ride in Glentress forest that weekend. Parking was full but there were not too much people on the red trail. Probably the only child under 10 was mine, and we could go down absolutley flat out as the track is quite grippy and the section with the drops are quite straight. We reallly enjoyed the descent there and we'd love to go back to Tweed Valley one day to try the well known enduro tracks.
This trail you shown here make us thinking to add it to the list, but unfortunately it's too far for us.
The Tweed valley is great to be fair, and yes, this one is too far for most. Thankfully Scotland had many other great places to ride too, so you’ve got m even more choices.
Fair point about the Duke of Sutherland, but had the monument not been there you would not have looked him up. So in my eyes, even though he was a heartless fuck, history is history and it should stay. Loved the ride by the way. :)

Excellent vid, thinks. I have ridden the black there twice now. the first time in very thick fog second was snow so I really have no idea where the track goes lol. I yes pull that statue down, its a horrible stain on my family name.
Sounds like you need to go back then...... in good weather of course.
Having seen your video we diverted to Golspie from our holiday in Altnaharra and were not disappointed! It's a great trail and even spend a night at Brora after you mentioned it in your spiel when at the top. That was brilliant as well. Thanks!!

Golfie was totally fine that weekend and conditions were incredible! Sunday just passed was absolutely crazy though, busiest I've ever seen it.
I was there on the Saturday of that weekend and it was surprisingly quiet.
I think most people had the same idea to miss the first weekend 🤔

I rode Glentress on the Sunday after restrictions lifting. Aside from the car park being busier than normal at 9:30 the trails were fine, have seen it worse for sure.

Spent the whole day today cleaning and tidying my house , just sat down and watched this vid soooooooooo jealous ha ha. Some awsome trails , how long did it take to ride up to the top, could you do a couple of runs in a day 👍👍

@@McTrailRider I bought the Mavic Pro when it first came out to do just that sort of filming. The ads said it could but it was hopeless. Sold it for an 800 quid loss! This Skydio does exactly what I want but Ive now been made redundant due to convid so can't afford it! Such is life!

I had the Mavic 2 Pro, and it was a nightmare for this kind of thing.
@@McTrailRider I looked into this this morning. The Mavic Air 2 is a better drone for consumer flying and aerial photography. The Skydio2 (allegedly) is primarily designed for autonomous active track flying and is superior to the mavic in this...I clearly need both!

Another great video showing your beautiful country. I appreciated your commentary on the monument, being from the US South that's had it share of monuments to historical figures that perpetuated and defended the atrocity of slavery.

Great vid mate. Amazing weather! I've done Golspie a few times but that new off-piste stuff looks awesome so I'll be heading back up this year for sure. Really liked the drone footage and it gives a good insight into how well your suspension was working.

Granted we don't have the mountains compared to Scotland, but we have our own magical scenery.
Your drone footage was good, and obviously not as doable through the wooded slopes....but great work bruds, like I said...Keep em coming.
Some of the best trails out there are in smaller hills, you don’t need a huge amount of elevation 👍
Loved the video and the trail looks epic. Before I embark on a 10hr (by Google) each way drive, what else in the area is worth the ride (waymarked preferable or at least a decent GPX file) Or if you fancy giving 3 ebikers a guided tour for a weekend, that would work too ;)
Contin, Balblair, Learnie red rock and Evanton are all great and close by. You can find them all on Trailforks.
Went to GT heading out from peebles at 830, wasn't too busy then, did a loop of offpiste & back to Peebles early afternoon & carpark was full, trails weren't as busy as you would expect

Havent been on mt MTB for over a year but Golspie is still my favourite - i remember it so well. Also remember your first video with the e-bike where you missed the deer and nearly overcooked one of the jumps at the bottom - still remember the "OOOH SHET"

A drunken conversation once lead to a 1700 mile round trip with Golspie being the destination.
It didn't disappoint and rode a rake of other stuff too.
I have a week at the end of May in the Highlands, Torridon is a must that trip but may well tap you up for suggestions.

Lovely to see you both session the hits!! Spent some time in Dortmund in Germany in the woods north of there with very pro MTB German pals and we spent all day walking back up to do re hits of hits. Me not as well as them lol but lots of fun and muesli bars Great vid!!!

I am a Canadian living in the Strathspey valley and am new to Scottish mountain biking. I am headed to Golspie in a week and am excited. Thanks for your videos man. Went to Glentress on Friday evening ,on the first day the travel restrictions being lifted. Was expecting it to be mobbed but it was actually really quite quiet! Though I bet the next day was packed.
Maybe loads of people had the same thought process as me

We went last summer. This trail is superb... I also thouroughly enjoyed Balblair. Well worth the trip north to explore them, and the natural riding there.
Balblair will be getting hit very soon I reckon.
One of the best I've ever rode, spent plenty a weekend up there campaign and looping back up to do the first forest section. MTBikers should add this to the top of their list if they've never been there before. Great video.

1200 feet, eh? I'm just gonna not tell you how long my longest local descent is...
Well that’s the height of it, and this is the longest single man made trail that continually descends. We’ve got 4000ft plus descents available that can take over an hour to get down, but they aren’t Mtb specific though.
No kamikaze deer this time😆. One of my fav trail centres. Drone is working well.
I did go round that corner half expecting to see a deer 😜
