    Keep the Camera AA samples at a minimum (3 or 4) and switch the adaptive sampling on. Then set the max AA samples to something like 30 or 50 and set the adaptive threshold to something in between 0.02 and 0.01 (this way you don't force the engine to get clamped by the Camera AA and you tweak the quality via the threshold).
    I would say that my main complaints with this beta are the following:
    1) the need to "Pre-Populate the GPU caches" (it's recommended) before even starting the render, which can take up to 15 minutes (yes, fifteen minutes). Thanks God it's just one off and you don't have to do it again, and on top of that it makes the next renders start without delay.
    2) No support for Area Lights.
    3) No support for "Closest" filters, blockers or decay.
    4) No support for light filters.
    5) No support for shadow matte.
    6) Selecting a specific GPU (I have three installed) crashes the software (so I have to leave all my GPUs active for the renderer).
    A lot of work to do and a long way to go for this feature to be production proof.
    I still find the interactivity way way way faster on CPU than GPU (but render times are of course faster on the GPU).

      Will definitely stick to Redshift until Arnold GPU is mature. If the only point is the possibility to be more cost-effective with a CPU farm, I think it doesn't make sense. Just give it some time and the GPU farm will get cheaper. The other thing I am concern about is the development for c4d/Houdini knowing Arnold is an Autodesk product. I think it's a bit more healthy to have a more independent render engine. One question Chad about the switches you have in your layout for changing the viewport background: can you tell me who's doing it? Heard of it before but can't find it online anymore. Many thanks.

    Hi There! :)
    Can I ask these question?
    1.) I want to be a 2d motion graphic designer, do I need to learn 3D and Cinema 4D
    2.) Can I use Blender for 3D animation
    3.) Why Cinema 4D is the industry standard for Motion Graphics? Why not Maya or Blender?

    • @OGHearty
      @OGHearty 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) Not necessarily, but having some 3D knowledge will help a lot. For example, how to work in a 3D space.
      2) Yes you can, all 3D programs are capable of modeling, rigging and animating. I would advise learning Maya if you are passionate enough about 3D animation, Blender is a good start, once you realize what type of 3D animation you want to pursue, you will later on either choose Maya, Cinema 4D or Houdini once you become really good in 3D.
      3) The MoGraph system. Cinema 4D is THE choice for 3D Motion Graphics. Maya has MASH, but it still isnt good enough. And Houdini... Well, in Houdini, you literally create the tools yourself. But if your main interest is 3D motion graphics, then your main programs should be Cinema 4D and After Effects. So get going and start learning!

      @BENBOBBY 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know the technical reason why out of interest? Naively I would have thought the GPU would be faster as in games they render hundreds of frames per second with virtually no lag

    • @25knightcrawler
      @25knightcrawler 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BENBOBBY My two cents: Firstly you'll have to load everything from disk into ram and then again have specialized a structure to pack data and send to the GPU which takes up some more time. You would have to do this everytime you change something in the scene. Games are faster because they use a different technique called rasterization. With ray tracing or path tracing there is an issue of thread divergence where more scattered the rays are the slower the performance. GPU threads run in lock step and if there is scattered data access or different parts of the code executing for different rays then you would see really bad performance

    most renderers now a days tend to use one control for their glossy,reflection,AA,motion blur/dof,GI etc. at first I was not happy that I cannot control one aspect of it but the reason for it is that it will became much faster when your test and for final settings just change one setting even corona and vray works like this... this method is the reason why people like corona because you can control your render quality with just the noise value. even Clarisse' path tracing renderer works this way just one parameter to control the noise quality.

    As a long time Octane render user trust me i know. Its one thing dealing with small scenes its another when scenes gets gig's heavy. though the rendering itself may be fast often the updating of info and data can severly bottle neck GPU workflow. because all the gpus have to be updated then re-synced. so again 10 secs is nothing be thankful.. =

      @@cgpov they cant Chad unless they write their own GPU implementation from the ground up. Something a lot of people are not talking about (we discussed this internally during beta) was the issue with Optix API for ray-tracing does not allow for local sampling. It cant do more samples on GI/Spec/etc. This is why it's forced to run as a pure path-tracer randomly firing only primary rays. They either need to find some crazy workaround or Nvidia needs to further develop the Optix API to allow for local sampling. Both are a very tall order.
