Poor man - Dave is fascinated by cars but cannot get them, like Kyle, for reviews for weeks in a row. In conclusion he has to buy them, keep 3-4 months and simply flip them later for others, in search for new experiences. That might be what is attracting viewers to this channel after all.

Keep the lucid. I think the viewers would very much like to see how the car does once the charger surge is fixed and how it lasts and improves over time. Everyone knows what the Taycan can do and there is a lot on the road. The lucid is still special at this point.

Plaid is fastest for a few seconds only, it gets of the line faster in track mode for 3 secs in a straight line, that doesn’t mean it will get you to your destination faster because it got off the line quicker. The 3 seconds gain off the line are irrelevant in day to day usage.
The Taycan needs 2 secs to really get going and can hold higher top speeds for longer, no track mode needed

I think if Dave drove a dual motor Taycan, he would like the acceleration. Due to number of options he wants, a previously owned Taycan is better financially. But it’s adaptive cruise control and interior space may not satisfy him.

I am a model X owner, can agree w/ the the squeaks and rattles that I have a service appointment for, but love the interior design and it also just feels like “home” for me. Also w/ Lucid, that big vertical screen is so low, out of line of sight, seems so distracting to touch anything on it. But haven’t driven it myself though.

Dave, I think you should consider a 2023 Model X, maybe with Enhanced Autopilot. I have had mine for five weeks and I love it. It is super easy to enter and exit, the air suspension is smooth as silk, I love the HUGE front window (and the visor gets out of the way), I got three years of free supercharging, and three months of free FSD. The lane changing works perfectly and changes Interstates like magic. I also love the power doors (front and back), the fantastic sound system (22 speakers), the noise deadening feature, and the auto direction select when you step on the brake. The acceleration is amazing, and there are no rattles, clanks or squeaks. The price was the lowest I have ever seen for an X, and Tesla gave me what I wanted on my Model Y trade in. The X looks so much like the S, but all the extra height and room is real nice. Plus your dog would love to watch Netflix on the extra screen in the back seat with dog mode keeping her comfortable! If you haven't driven an X lately, I hope you will.

Exactly. Funny I agree the Model S visor is in the way and feels so small inside vs exterior and no auto doors. But now I’m really impressed how much the Model 3 came up because we first got the Model 3 Performance. Sportiness and visibility is on point while our older 2018 ride on 20” wheels is harsh and noisy. But now I love our 23 Model X Plaid for all your same reasons. We just finished two road-trips and I still want to drive it for no reason. I don’t mind the turn signals at all and love the yoke because you can rest both hands on it unlike a round wheel. Comfy, roomy, techie, and just endless power. It’s no cushy Mercedes but I can add mood lighting and a front camera, custom wheels, and every aftermarket accessory with the extra money. BTW Great long form informative video 😉🤙🏼

My dad used to remember to put on his seatbelt right before going around a sharp curve with low suggested speed. He'd shout out "SEATBELTS" and hold the wheel with his knees while he put his on just before the apex.

I went through this dilemma few months ago when my Air Touring was about to be built. Even with the old pricing, the Model S Plaid got similar range and was much faster. Long story short, I picked up a Plaid and love the thing. It does everything right and is a great value. If I could afford another 70-80k, I would be in a Taycan GTS Cross Turismo, but that's just not in the cards yet

  • @brentmsdn
    @brentmsdn 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I would only get the Y or X, because it's much easier to get into than the 3. I don't like to have to bend on one knee and also pivot to get into the car, because I've injured my knee doing that before.

Dave should drive the new version of the Plaid. Bought one 6 weeks ago- much better build quality than the early VIN version. Had an August 2021 Plaid and new one is has no real rattle issues like the early one as well as all the features/ upgrades made. New glass roof, higher thermal capacity calipers, round wheel, tilting center screen, refreshed tail section etc. Besides being almost 30k less. Had a M3P in between the 2 Plaids and much prefer the newer S. Feels like a different class of car.

Think you should keep the lucid coz it has the drive, speed, comfort, and the software just keep improving - maybe it'll have a dog mode soon once it catches up on all other priorities. Yes infrastructure is still gonna be an issue, but if the new charger network pans out by 7 auto makers, you might just have a fix for that in a year. Besides you'd have to drive 5 hours straight at 80mph to use up 400 mile range. I'd personally rather just charge my car at destinations than having to stop all the time just to juice up. Last but not least you'll be able to make contents with it when model 3 is kind ubiquitous.

Just watched this again. Excellent discussion of the state of the EVs I would consider. They all have issues that make them not quite what I would hope, and you guys talked about the issues I have with each. At the moment, Lucid is ahead, but the software, charging, and corporate longevity issues are significant. The noise level and poor ride quality of the new Tesla products rule them out for me, even though I love the software and charging ease. Thanks again!

Loved it when Dad said Kyle knew how to push all the buttons at age three. Great dig, I immediately knew the buttons he was referring too. That said I cant see you being happy with anything other than a Tesla, they do most things right. If you can live with your model 3 for a while longer you will get to see a test of the new version, and decide if its one you can live with. Maybe the model Y is really your car. Get Kyle to put in a softer suspension for a comfy ride, you'd have more room, and could still have Bailey mode too.

  • @robertrobinson3597

Dave, great video! I have a data point for you. Tesla doesn't like buttons! I have a very nice Acura MDX. Yesterday I counted the buttons. I was shocked. I expected 50. The actual count was 85! This didn't count any controls on the two screens! No wonder my bride can only remember less than 20! Three different nav systems are loaded on the system. also CarPlay as well as Acura's system. For two elderly drivers, this is beyond overwhelming. I'm an old school engineer, trained by experience that less is better, but also deeply into tech. Worse, if I want any upgrade in S/W Acura wants me to buy a new car! These decisions by Honda have to have been made in 1990 by someone a lot older than me! The Acura is a really nice car, but the sunset for Honda is a lot closer than they know!

Kyle, get your Plaid sorted. I have a Plaid that I bought new in Sep. of ‘21 and the only rattle I’ve had is the notorious rear seat latch. That was quickly fixed with electrical tape around the latch. Other than that, it’s been easily the quietest of the four Tesla’s I’ve owned. I think you’re doing a disservice to the Model S by making it appear that issues with your specific car are indicative of the entire production run. Setting that aside, you would enjoy the car much more if it was corrected.

I really enjoy all of the out of spec video content, I did watch the whole thing ( I need to get a life ) and my take on the video is that now that Dave is into the U tube world he will never keep a vehicle long enough run out of warranty and barely long enough to have to recharge. The CCS charging network will be resolved eventually but still a few years away from no worries. If the charging network were perfect there would be no reason to get rid of the Lucid but I think you would be looking for the next exciting thing anyway so no vehicle is safe for long term with Dave. Looking forward to your trip back home video in the Lucid, look at it as a challenge and your up to the task, have fun and be safe.

So, I just finished the driving portion.
Id like to add: Your S and likely Kyle's S are "Production Ramp" cars. Elon has always said that cars made during the Production Ramp would be lower quality and have more issues. Hes always suggested to wait until the production is at normal capacity. Kyle has always had issues with his S, so I wouldn't let that drive sway your decision.
Lucid has made it clear they will NOT partner with Tesla on charging, and that makes it useless to me.. I tried to road trip my Rivian and id much rather have a Tesla... but the only reason im keeping my rivian is because they ARE partnering with Tesla.
Id go test drive a brand new Model S, and see what it is like now that production is where it needs to be.

And with Rivian also committing to switch to NACS, just order yourself the R1S. And now with the newly available dual motor With a few less HPs, It sounds like it may be the perfect car for you considering all the arguments you brought up in this video. Hope to catch up with you next time you're in Marco

    LUCID is the best EV

I feel like I live in crazy town. I've been on three road trips with a CCS EV of 1,500 to 1,800 miles to Florida, Outer Banks, and Boston, and it's been . . . fine. Once I had to wait because it was busy, maybe twice something was slow. The other 30 or more charging stops were just fine. Maybe we charged at 80 instead of 200 a few times, but I don't care if I'm charging for 30 minutes instead of 15. I'm not rolling in at 3 percent, I don't care to maximize the charging game. I've never been stranded. For 1 or 2 road trips a year, CCS is . . . adequate, and maybe it costs me an extra 30 minutes per day of charging time. I'm not making TH-cam videos, and I don't care.

Why don’t you bring the Tesla Model S Plaid to a professional audio shop and give it a stage 3 demping? Makes the car a little heavier but it fixes so many unwanted noises. I have it on a Audi A5 convertible from 2012 and it fixes a lot of noises because it has not a stiff chassis.

Spoke to a Audi RS e-tron GT owner a few months ago and he is so much happier with sound demping. It is also a big plus for the standard sound system.

Whether a car rattles or not is more important than acceleration? Also, Elon is a tall guy and finds the Model S to fit him fine. Not a typical case, because Dave is 6 foot 5 inches tall.

One may think, then it all goes wiggy because he’s driving a rear wheel drive Taycan. A 4S may have swayed him. But he’s too price conscious for a Porsche.

Also have you considered an Audi etron GT? Gives you taycan 4s performance at a RWD price plus they are offering some good incentives this month. Might be worth checking out

This isn’t a fair comparison, you don’t have the lucid air sapphire which is currently the fastest production sedan on earth

….. lol sapphire at 250K sorry that’s ridiculous in the current EV market. The Lucid GT performance is the sweet spot 90 K used and the Tesla plaid at 70K used both great choices

The styling and appearence of the Telsa to me is superior to both the Lucid and Porche. Plus the UI is far better. The navigation and huge screen really stand out compared to the others. Plus the Tesla can be used for entertainment as well. I think you need to get the hyland model 3 performance so we can get some great videos on that one.
