WOW.. All you need now Guy is a voluminous Rickman Top Box for the full touring look !.. then a sidecar and a trailer and you'll have a mini Goldwing !!..
Nice to see you back! Regarding black and silver number plates: Initially, in 2015 the DVLA said that that vehicles manufactured more than 40 years ago (Historic) were eligible to display the traditional black and silver number plates. Then they realised what they had done and changed it so that from the 1st January 2021 and going forward, only those vehicles with a construction date prior to 1 January 1980 will continue to be able to legally display black and silver number plates. So with a 'W' 1980 registration date/plate you are skating on thin ice, depending on when the bike was constructed.
Good morning Guy, great to see you are back making videos, perfect timing to stop and have a cuppa on a Sunday morning 🙂🍵, I think you may have just missed out on being technically allowed the black and silver plate, it needs to be first registered before 1st Jan 1980 AND historic registered, it used to be '73 so now my CB750 is getting one to replace the yellow tea tray🙂
Hi Guy nice to see the Benly coming out of her winter sleep Will look out for her at Peterborough saw her last year But missed you and your son for a photo
Good work. Did many miles on the back of my mates CM200 Custom back in 1981. Everyone laughed at that little bike, but it was bomb proof, used no fuel, and was actually pretty comfortable. The fairing and panniers look very similar to what I had on my 400/4. Whatever happened to Rickman? Be a good story. Nice one. Safe, happy travels 👍
Any historic vehicle pre 01/01/1980 can display and black and silver plate. Anything after 01/01/1980 black and yellow plates regardless of historic classification. If you hold the grinder at an angle it will cut the radius a lot easier.
Looks great Guy. Well maybe a topbox to finish it off. Old school buying stuff making it fit brilliant that's how we had to do it. All too easy nowadays. 👍👍👍
I had a 1980 cm400t custom -- talk about unstoppable. Really, the brakes worked poorly. Bought it for $50 in 1986 and sold it for $850 in 1989. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.
Back in seventies I had the older models which had removable lids & the rear brace bars went upwards to the bolt holding the rack to to frame not forward to the footrests .
I met you at the NEC a few years ago and we talked about the lack of aftermarket touring fairings for the plethora of "retro" bikes on sale now! Would you consider getting replica Rickman products made for Royal Enfields, Triumphs, and all the other bikes out there that could then be used all year round again? That Benly looks PUCKER! When I first looked into bikes, this was one of my choices (back in the 1970's!) I eventually bought an old XS650 US import, instead! I would happily relocate BACK to the Cambridge area if I could get digs (flippin' expensive to live anywhere near that part of the world!) and a job like that!
I was a dispatch rider in London back in the day Cx500 , then a benly , made more on the benly than on the bigger bikes w1 to w1 3.30 pound easy money Engine went on me benly !
1:32 hi guy hope all is good with you just wondering if you could post what model carburetor you used to sort out the honda 200 as im having the same issues cheers ,
Hi Guy. If the Benly was first registered after 1st January 1980, it can’t legally have a black and silver plate despite its historic status. I wouldn’t worry about it to be honest 😉
@@sjv6598 true - up to vehicles registered 31/12/1979. After that date - yellow and white plates only. The ‘historic status’ date is a rolling 40 years but there is a cut off dates for plates 😉 Google it 👍
Hey guy. Nice to see another vid. A quick note on editing though. It’s a good idea to lower the audio during grinding etc. Those listening with earphones can get quite the shock with the sudden increase in volume, like myself screaming in the kitchen. Haha. Nice vid nonetheless. Thanks again.
"The most important thing to do next...." I thought this was going to be some pious lecture about eye protection. ".......is to move your tea to another place".
my understanding is that it must be in keeping with the age of the bike or car therefore if the Black and white number plats were fazed out before the bike was registered for the road then it cant use one - Historic registration is not connected to this
K reg 1972 was the last year you could have silver and black plates. I had a K reg Yamaha YDS7 in 1978 and I put yellow and black plate on to make it look modern lol.
Next, you will be signing up to just eat as a food courier 🏍 🤣🤣🤣 great video mate and great camera work to 👍
Makes the bike compliments the fairing

Great to see more upgrades on this bike, keep the vids coming 👍👍
One step closer to a 1970s Japanese Police Bike! Good to see you back.
Dean.
Can't wait to see you getting them ready and having them in situ. Talk about a blast from the past☺
Welcome back Guy.👍

I’ve read if it’s over 40 years it can have black plates.

I turned it right down on the volume and put the subtitles on which are as ever comical. As Guy was using the grinder subtitles said music.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll try to get it sorted.
Where’s the inevitable top-box ? 😮
You are only allowed black and silver plates up to around 1972.
"The most important thing to do next...." I thought this was going to be some pious lecture about eye protection. ".......is to move your tea to another place".
Your bike is the future of motorcycle.
Are you the son of Henry Cole and Allen Millyard?
Rather than that Cole fella taking the micky out of the Benly, perhaps he could mention that the entire story is on your TH-cam channel.....?

Top box next? 😁
Yes
angle grinder? what no computer controlled plasma cutter?
Have to say, the panniers look like a couple of tissue dispensers from the loo 🚻
I'd put something on top of my tea cup to stop crap getting in there.
Good to see you Gay.
Thanks for your support

The law has changed. Pre 1/1/80 is now ok.
