How to setup a TV Antenna (How to get Free TV Forever)

- This is a tutorial video on How to install a TV antenna and get it all setup from start to finish. TV antennas allow you to receive over the air tv signals to pick up local channels for FREE!
This is essentially a tutorial on how to get free tv forever.
The amount of tv channels that you get with your antenna is going to differ depending where you live, the most common stations that almost everyone can at the very least pick up is going to be your locals news, but the closer you live to a larger city the better! Because then you will pick up more stations then if you lived in the middle of no where.
I pretty much live in the middle of no where myself here in northeast Pennsylvania, and I was able to get 19 free channels using this simple paper thin tv antenna that I got from amazon that has a 50 mile range.

Yes! None of them told you how to get over to air and change it from cable since I had no way to get into settings it wasn't even lasted until I clicked on that icon he showed me

Thank you for this help I feel like a dummy know I couldn't get the antenna to work on my tv well I missed this step entirely there was nothing in the instructions telling me to do this I have a older Samsung tv and a Toshiba tv both older and I want antennas on both.

Thank you for this video - we thought our antenna was broken until we figured out how to scan for channels.
I placed the antenna over my roof got 43 local channels scaned, but some of the channels keep disappearing after few hours and I have to keep scanning the channels again, on some hours no success to find the channels.
I got a really oldy kid t.v. out of the trash and when I click settings, it goes to a blank screen that says line....any ideas on that ??

What If I'm not within the tv broadcast range will the antenna work?
Scan your TV a few times a year I’ve noticed you may find new channels or sometimes broadcasters change there towers and you will need to rescan to get those channels again.

My TV is a Panasonic Tau 27" CRT from 2003. It has boot an option from TV (Channel 2-69) and Cable (Channel 1-125) which one should I use?
I found a hot spot in my apartment. I get up to 40 channels in that spot. If I move it out of that hot spot by just a few inches, I will lose 25-30 channels. The reason for this is the surrounding apartments. The TV signals are bouncing off there buildings and reach a focal point in my apartment. Thank goodness when I bought my indoor antenna there were still plenty of analog TV channels that were active. This made it easier to find the hot spot since the white picture noise level did all the speaking as to the signal strength.

I can't get any programmes found when it is all connected & I do a auto tune

So everything was working a couple of minutes ago, but while moving some other stuff I lost all of my channels. I didn't move the antenna, or unplug any of it's wires, so I'm not sure what went wrong. Should I just keep moving it around and hope for the best?

Lately, every morning, the TV channels that usually come in just fine at night, are breaking up in the mornings. CBS, NBC,ABC, WGN, etc. Yesterday I had the branches cut from around the antenna thinking that would help but this morning the channels are breaking up again. It's very frustrating. Any suggestions?

moved furniture yesterday. Got up today to watch my favorite show.. The price is Right.. and it is gone.. I can't click it back on. Message said it was my antenna... I installed it the same way you explained it.
At first I didn’t get a signal but then I put it in a certain position (facing downtown Tampa) then the channel started coming in. I get 66 channels. The only thing is I’m not getting two of the Spanish network but I understand you have to keep moving the antenna in order to you get those stations.

Thanks for sharing your video with us all it was very good and informative and more helpful than others that make it more complicated and difficult to understand, you did good, do you happen to understand or know how to hook up a HD FREE TV 4K UNLIMITED ANTENNA? if you do, do you happen to have a video of that? it would be very helpful and appreciated if you do, we are living in apartment complex with very limited resources/income and can not afford the cable that they expect everyone to do etc.I'm happy with the antenna being able to get the shows that we can enjoy with no cost to our already stretched out to the limit purse strings, if you have any idea of how to hook up and get the channels that they make claims to we would appreciate it very much, being disabled and the regular television is all the entertainment that we can get or afford, thanks again for your help and sharing your knowledge with us all. My TV has cable now and when I try to go to the satellite icon it is on cable and it does not show air or antenna option. Can you tell me how can I fix this. I talked to a tech from Samsung and his answer was that Samsungs TV are not compatible with HDTV indoor antenna. THanks
Sorry I'm late but I found out that you have to be on the tv option and not one of your HDMI sources. That might be the problem

I have a 2006 Sanyo vizion 32" sdtv
when i do a channel scan and after moving it around at least 10 times around my RV i am limited to 8 ft cable, i get about 18 digital channels, and 0 to 1 analog channels, but only get the channel and description of the show, no picture or audio. not even the built in RV antenna gets anything, what gives?
I'm thinking you might need a Digital Converter Box (Heres an example on Amazon: amzn.to/2X7jXqP )
You're TV antenna is picking up digital channels but your TV isn't compatible with HD / Digital Channels it seems, this box should fix that.
You might be able to find one at a Walmart or any electronics store around you if you don't want to wait for shipping. Just keep the receipt in case it doesn't solve your problem

Do I need a booster for the Amazon Basics 35 mile range antenna? I am set to air, not cable, my source is the over the air tv (the snowy one), and I get nothing. Antenna connections of the cable at the tv and antenna are secure. Cleveland stations are about 25 miles or so from me. My tv is about 12 years old but for over the air tv, that should not matter. And YES, I did do the channel scan each time I moved the antenna, multiple scans each time.

My new apartment is directly across the street from broadcasting towers. I’m only picking up 8 channels. Do you think the signal may be broadcasting outward above my apartment where my antenna can’t pick up the channels?
Yes that's usually the case
Sometimes people will mount their TV antenna to a big pole outside to try and get more stations because of the signals going over head
I assume you won't be able to do that living in an apartment, I'm not sure what else could help that

I waistband too much money by purchasing antennas , each antenna I purchased gave me too many free channels each time I scanned the TV channels on my TV, but because the frequency constantly is changing, I noticed the channels keep disappearing after few hours , ended up I gave up and switched back to my original dish and start paying the monthly fee.

Same thing is happening with me. I once got about 50 channels but every time I turn off my tv it basically resets (I only get a black screen) and I have to do everything all over again. Now I get a few channels and It’s so annoying having to go threw the process over and over again. I really don’t want to go back to paying again but might have to.

here in canada analog TV doesn't even exist anymore. I think it was discontinued like 10 years ago now at this point and there are no OTA broadcasts that I'm aware of
I'm in Canada and I still get some, but you have to be in a big city to receive a good amount (7-8) Mostly CBS, CBC, Omni, YesTV. Digital broadcasts are still up, but analog is not. Any OTA signal in Canada is digital.
