Thank you for this great comparison. I’ll admit that I’m definitely a Tarot de Marseille geek, and I really appreciate these videos. I have a walk through of a version that I restored on my channel. It’s incredible how similar the art style is between The two Burdels. Definitely Claude Burdel’s version is exceptional with all the details. It’s definitely one of my favorites.

Hi Jade! Rewatching this again. Clearly the Classic is not directly based on either of the Burdel’s. However, it is very, very similar to the Gassman(s). I checked on the name you mentioned at the beginning, and it looks to me like the Classic was based on the Schaffhausen (like it says on the 2 of Coins, still) which was either published in 1890 or 1905 by AJ Muller. And that deck was clearly derived from the Gassman. And the Gassman -may- have been influenced by the Burdels. I love the colors in the original Schaffhausen and now I want one of those, too! I wonder if there are any reproductions. I love my two Gassman’s, my Claude Burdel, and my Classic. But I want a Schaffhausen now! I like the large expressive eyes on the one on the right. I bought the Tarot Classic solely on my love for its Ace of Cups coloring and shape.
