I hope he figures this out... Your price tells people "this is how *valuable* this is" and you actually miss opportunities by selling yourself short! I hate valuing my own work though so I get it...
He can't because when you are looking for logo designer on Fiverr you have no idea who has skills and not. So if he wants customers he needs to keep price low, and when he reaches higher levels (Fiverr ratings) he can increase the price.
$135 is insane value for what was presented. It also works across everything from web, app, merchandise, stationary and livery. It’s a designer who has yet to realise they value of their work, which I think is the hardest lesson to learn. Do this person a favour, and tell them what the real value of their work her should be.
So lots of people on Fiverr will undercharge for two reasons 1. They live in a country with low cost of living, so they don't charge a lot compared to US designers, while making more than everyone in the same field in their country. 2. They are building a reputation and getting more reviews/ranking so they can increase prices later and still get reviews.

@@3dvfxprofessor Sure it does. I started on Fiverr (which I don't recommend to any creatives unless you want to stand in the shadow of art thieves... last time I was on Fiverr it was to report two art thieves claiming my art is theirs) and now I work off my own portfolio, many key pieces of which were originally done on Fiverr for budget clients, for 5x-20x the rate I used to charge, depending on the product. :) Better to work for cheap than for nothing to get your portfolio set up. No one's going to pay a brand new artist $1000 off the hop. I had to demonstrate skill in my arena, by working with lower budget clients, to win jobs that paid me like that. I do hold there's a tier where it's not worth it to spend your time, unless you can whip it out in a couple of hours... but it's not unreasonable for a beginning artist to start with a minimum wage estimated rate. Though I acknowledge burnout is a very real risk and I wish every day that every job I took was in that $500+ bracket, I still regularly take commissions for lower rates. Not unreasonably low rates, but not everyone has industry level money to spend on art, so while I feel it's more important to focus on negotiating big jobs, the littler ones make up a key part of my income... and even those little ones have clients who say "okay, I'll do that, but I have to save up for a month before I can afford to pay you." They deserve art too, just not quite the same level of intense service as the $500 or $800 or $1000 clients get.
The $450 dude was really good, but the $135 dude was INCREDIBLE! He went above and beyond with his designs and even showed you the process he used to make it. That dude should be charging at least $400 for what he’s offering
To be honest $400 is too little to pay for a professional logo design. This is why i hate apps like fiver. It drives down the prices that people expect to pay for design. A guy charging $150 is taking food from the tables of designers who have worked for years to hone their skill. More often than not you get the quality that you pay for.
@@dmd_design How can it be too little when plenty of people are offering great work for less than that? Supply and demand. Just because you want to be paid more for your work, doesn't mean it's worth it.
Yes, maybe he's a bit newer guy on there. It makes sense to charge less at start so more people will "try" you and when you are famous or people know you do great work, you raise the price higher.
Well the ones that charge low is often the ones who is a ”pro” and actually ”knows” what they’re doing, so they can charge little and get good reviews! It’s really smart ngl!
you can tell the guy at $135 went to design school, literally exactly how all my projects look. He did too much I think $135 just for a mark would've been ok if it took em like an hour or so to make. But he went a designed an entire identity for you, which is worth thousands. $40 was way underpriced and $450 was WAY overpriced, looked like they're more of an illustrator rather than a logo designer.
I think he/she might have some architectural background. The measurement line and some raster elements are straight of a ground floor plan :D . The design process seems very technical/rational, the presentation with all the insights, is a step further from average design school. Top notch work!

The one for 135 was the best. This video made me realize just how interesting and in-depth designing logo's are. Something so simple as such aesthetic and mathematical complexity to it. Completly makes me reconsider how I approach both viewing logo's and how I wish to design them.
450$ had so many basic problems, from the concept to the colors, typography, size (of element details) and even the symbol communication, it would have been good that he at least rotated it 90º CCW (even 45º) so it doesnt direct the viewer to the bottom if he wants that "mindscape" idea. Looking forward and up would give a way better idea of mindscaping The 135$ was a hidden gem in deed

The focus is on guided meditation. No point focusing on the music, sounds or alarm that the app *also* provides, the logo should be based on what the app's *primary purpose* is :)
Something you need to consider, is that many of those who work for companies such as Fiverr are from other countries. To you $135 might be too little, but to them it might mean more commissions because of "cheap" price point, instead of waiting for people to debate whether they want to spend $500, when there are cheaper options. Just a thought
@@diegoalva5878 of course, but at the same time, spending more time on less projects increases the likely hood of his average overall quality is higher
All of them are under priced, that's the problem with platfroms like this -- they're devaluing all of an industry. Take the 450 dollars over a few days and compare that to a salary. Can you live on that? If you're a business, your work 20 days a month is not guaranteed, lucky if you get a client, lucky if you work 10 days a month. The only people who benefit from this... not the client, not the designer, but the platform. Now think of the dude who created a good presentation, had a great concept and charged 135 minus the platform's percentage.
2:53 Honestly this one is pretty brilliant in my opinion. The squiggles and circle look like a person, but you didn’t mention (if you noticed) that it _also_ looks like a sun, mountains, and a river. The head is the sun, the torso the mountains, and the legs the river. As someone into minimalist design, I love that one a lot.
I liked this concept but the "s" in the logotype really grated on me - something just wasn't right with it. It would have been nice to see that logo mark but with a different typeface.
It really is a great design, but that logo was actually not from the seller (from what I've seen), because I've seen that logo before and it came from a free site, the site creates simple logos for business etc. I think the seller just get it there and then own it and pretend that it's his works
The $135 logo was fantastic! Creative, subtle and unique. It's always interesting to see how every designer has a different way of solving these visual problems.
"I'm not sure why there's a music note in there ...." Brief: a guided meditation app _primarily with additional zen music features, calming sounds to help you focus_ ... Yup, no idea where he got the idea that music was involved :?
Will, I absolutely LOVED the $40 guy!! I have owned a couple of business' and was really heavy in advertising. There's a talent that thinks outside by giving you more than you asked for with multiple advertising. I hope someone picks him up for advertising! I have sold my business and now coach. MARKETING is my game! Would love to step in fiver if I you're up for it...
The $135 was my fav. That person seems like they're from a design school, perfect presentation, full explanation of the concept, technical details and examples of usage!
The fact that he missed the river in the first logo being the S to complete the M in the mountain hurts me. I also checked the comments and couldn't find anyone else that saw it🙁
Yes, that jumped out at me. I also liked that the overall effect was of a Landscape, which helps to associate with the name Mindscape. I would find it hard to choose between the $40 option and the $135 option. Both were excellent, and both were total bargains.

Agree. The "blind tasting" would be interesting, although he would have to judge what someone else initiated and spent. But still interesting. - That said, he was appropriately hard on the $40 guy.
I would have guessed the $135 guy to be worth $900 at least, and the most expensive one about $200. The cheapest designer did look like they put in the least effort.

Agree - I always think that logos should work in monochrome just as well as they do in their intended full colour. I can't imagine this working as a simple black logo on a white background. Also too much small detail with the moon and stars - this will be lost in a small app icon or printed really small on a business card, for example.
Oof, late answer, but the goal was to make it a logo/website icon. The extra simplified version can be done out of it or simple text can be used (text has a noticable details in it too). So I think it is fine. But I def like 135 dollar guy more, not because their logo is more creative or not (depends on tastes), but he did a presentation, the workflow process and branding ideas. It feels modern, it feels easy to continue working with. It feels professional.

The 135$ designer resonates with my energy at work so much. I try to get involved with the project, understand the client, give them differents options and think out of the box when I'm designing or ilustrating. As a perfectionist this is top notch, very pleasing and visual appealing, he NEED to raise up his prices, cause he is killing it.
FRANKIE HARRIS I am currently studying graphic design in Pakistan. I work on Fiverr and have made very little money there. But I honestly don’t know where else to go. We don’t have PayPal here, hence very little access to online platforms. I really, truly wish someone out there could help me, just guide me a little with how to build a graphic design portfolio to be able to find remote jobs.
No, that $450 logo looks more like a sleeping app logo and the design itself is not memorable. Also, it can't be a logo cause it's basically an illustration without real meaning. The $135 logo was WAY better.
Your logo doesn’t have to show exactly what you do. It’s not a flyer or an advert. That’s why you build a brand, and you show who you are and explain what makes you different. So a meditation app doesn’t have to show someone meditating. That being said, the $135 logo was very successful - clean and modern and the presentation was great, and helped sell the logo. The $450 one was more memorable. Take away the stars and moon, brighten it up a bit and it would show relaxation and calm which is the purpose of meditation. Depends on the client.
@@idntknow29 In my opinion, the logo $450 dollar is far superior to $135.. tho we appreciate the concept behind the 135$. When it comes to applications, visuals from $450 can easily capture the attention of the users in an instant. We can say that there is depth behind the origin of $135 and it's cheap yet in reality you don't have the time to explain the meaning and origin of it to the users. If i will see the $450 vs $150 dollar logo in my phone as an application, my eyes will be on the $450.
Agreed. Frankly, none of these were that terrible (cheap or 'expensive'), but the variation was pretty high. I don't want to see people not be paid, but at the same time the $135 guy was clearly the best. Factoring in COL and things become really skewed in coronavirus times.
Sorry I'm 4 months late to this comment, kinda just stumbled across this video randomly, but I wanted to agree with both you and PyR0. Similar to what PyR0 said, the $450 logo was beautiful in my opinion, such a lovely concept and very pretty. However, something that confused me was how Will completely contradicted himself (and I'm certainly no expert, so maybe there's something I'm missing). With all of them he criticized the logos for having too much depth and detail and then with the last one he praised it for having... a lot of depth and detail? Just didn't make sense to me and I thought it was weird. I personally love the design, but not for an app logo.
Firstly, thank you for this video--with a degree in design, I find Fiver fascinating and infuriating. I love to see the spectrum, but honestly, as said a myriad times, the $135 guy way undersold himself (a.k.a. 'lowball') and did way more work than he needed. So, this is essentially what we compete with on Fiver. People who lowball and work way harder than they should to seal the deal. Way less than minimum wage as a graphic designer ain't my cup'a. My 2cents. Good luck designers!
Would love to see this comment at the top. Obviously this is a promotional bit for Fiverr, so I'm guessing it's not possible for Will to be critical of a platform which strives on underbidding the market. It just seems problematic, in an almost paradoxical way, to promote this platform as a designer.
Understandable that they charge that way since peeps are more on Quality and cheaper prices. They did deserve to charge more but they need to have multiple clients at a time to earn for a living. The 450$+ is almost a gamble ,of course there are lots that would rather find cheaper ones. So many competition, that kind of charge is understandable.
The thing is you don't know what country the designer is from, which makes a huge difference in what the artist is actually receiving for their work in terms of their regional cost of living.
The last one in the best for sure. Stands for its colors and the idea in general means it is not the same boring app, there is something in that app you need to find. Amazing!
@@hamuArt there's nothing really here to be jealous of, I just didn't like it. Plus I can make my own icons in the way I want them so why should I be bothered by someone getting what they want. He likes it, I dont? Simple as that lmao.

My personal opinion: logo wouldn't work as an app button (I've just moved my phone away to get a proper size... and I can't see what's going on there) but it's amazing, mindblowing logo for game or book or typography or a central piece of hero block on homepage. It's very creatice and magical.

Hands down "A6design" (135$) did an amazing job! Well done, he need to charge much more! The other guys, I'm sorry to say but they need to quit it was embracing to watch... not proportional, wrong types, wrong color palettes, no connection between the text and the icon, very cliche designs as you said and it just looks very bad and not professional.
I strongly disagree. If I'm on a tight budget the first designer will do just fine. Those people aren't working for a million dollar company where you expect perfection and if I can get an absolutely decent looking logo for 30$ then this is an amazing deal.
How can I take your opinion seriously when you gush over one designer and call the others cliché, even though the the first designer (Marioland) offered a design almost identical to the one you praise?
3 & 5 were amazing. Loved them both. I think in the end if I was this CEO I would go with 3 because it is the simplest, the cleanest and the most design friendly but I would keep 5 for maybe extra promo materials in the future. Maybe when we add some new features. The rest - especially number 4 were pretty blah in my opinion. I liked 1 the most out of those other 3. And not the one you picked bc it looks like Facebook Meta.
A6 Designs did an incredible job. I love how they showed you the thought and process behind the final product. As well as giving you everything from different app icon shapes to advertising to clothing, very well done.

Am obsessed with this kind of videos , i watched illustrators , animators , beatmakers , editors and retouchers I have to admit there is always one that's more creative than the others
why everyone's gushing over $135 is that you can see his thought process. it's not a trial and error thing, with 4 variations that designer is basically trying his luck. okay if they don't like the first design there are 3 more to choose from, at least one of it will get selected versus $135 guys he already has a vision for this and got it right down to how the logo and the typeface can be used for even merch production. i know this because when im confident with an idea, i only need one to sell and it's convincing enough but when im not confident, I'll give multiple options and let the other party rationalize it on their own.

I would go for really curvy simple lines... The typeface for the last one also seemed out of place near the logo. I would be really disaapointed if I spent $450 on that...
£450 was good, but had too much detail. Reduce the number of stars a bit or turn the face to full-portrait (IT takes more effort to recognise a face side-portrait so it looks like there’s more detail in it), reduces the number of gradient depths: doing any one of those things would make the logo that much better, but my vote goes to Mr £135 👌🏾 He needs to charge more for his logos, and I feel like I need to charge way more for mine

They deserve art too, just not quite the same level of intense service as the $500 or $800 or $1000 clients get.

Just because you want to be paid more for your work, doesn't mean it's worth it.
the kind of work he did actually costs thousands, depending on the client. maybe even tens of thousands. hes a fully fledged graphic designer!
Yes, maybe he's a bit newer guy on there. It makes sense to charge less at start so more people will "try" you and when you are famous or people know you do great work, you raise the price higher.

450$ had so many basic problems, from the concept to the colors, typography, size (of element details) and even the symbol communication, it would have been good that he at least rotated it 90º CCW (even 45º) so it doesnt direct the viewer to the bottom if he wants that "mindscape" idea. Something you need to consider, is that many of those who work for companies such as Fiverr are from other countries.
Now think of the dude who created a good presentation, had a great concept and charged 135 minus the platform's percentage.

yep, true
It just seems problematic, in an almost paradoxical way, to promote this platform as a designer.
very well pointed.

This is really cool! I'd love to see more of that!
My favorite was 135$ guy!
The $135 design got me legitimately excited for this pretend app
Everyone is saying the guy for $135, but the $40 guy basically had the same exact logo with about 4 other variations. He wins hands down.
why everyone's gushing over $135 is that you can see his thought process. it's not a trial and error thing, with 4 variations that designer is basically trying his luck. okay if they don't like the first design there are 3 more to choose from, at least one of it will get selected versus $135 guys he already has a vision for this and got it right down to how the logo and the typeface can be used for even merch production. i know this because when im confident with an idea, i only need one to sell and it's convincing enough but when im not confident, I'll give multiple options and let the other party rationalize it on their own.
@@tototaros looks like you dont know the principles of logo design and how it works
@@ferdinandrosal5287 nah i do, i did logo design before but working in creative agency that's so fast pace and with how things are very convenient nowadays with platform such as fiverr, you want to be efficient and client can be very fickle-minded. so the more options you give to them, the harder it is to move on to the next stage. 4 options is too much but hey, whatever works really. if you already have one great idea that actually works, why bother creating more than necessary.
@@tototaros Yeah. I agree with you. Most clients want a logo that meets their needs. They don't want to get overwhelmed with choices. Some people need to understand that general clients are not Graphic designers. The 135$ guy showed everything that a client needs. He showed what the logo would look in deferent scenario. Which makes it easy for a client to decide.
@@tototaros You talk like it's a bad thing to offer choices, but I think it's a good thing. Not everyone has exactly the same taste, and offering 4 strong concepts to choose from is better than offering one strong concept.
$135 guy should place high value on himself wish i could meet him personally as a fellow designer that is outsouding work there
oh man, 450 is a no go, it's so saturated, good luck trying to convert that into a stamp, embroidery, and other small formats, it just doesn't work.
Exactly!
Can anyone explain why tho ? What will happen ?
@@patitboi printers don't have as many colours as a monitor - and gradients are really hard to make in traditional mediums that aren't paint- in stamps you get a really tiny among of colours (usually 1) it be hard to pick which parts get to be coloured in
And even if it was made well - it would just be a blur
(Having said that i really love that illustration)
@@nadeen6968 ooo i see thanks man ❤️
@@nadeen6968 I agree, it's a nice illustration but not a logo, unless it's not meant to be produced as anything else but a RGB screen graphic.
It's not necessary people who charge high for work their output would be great.
135 guy is gave you more than 450 guy.
$135 guy is proof that something can be good, but the way you present it can make is 10000x better
$135???? The guy should receive all the money you spent giving to the others "designers" wtf, the guy did a perfect job.
Agree!
I have to say the $135 version was totally worth it, I love his logo and I love the presentation! He must have put so much work into creating the logo, I think he could ask for even more money
You can tell the $135 guy is an experienced designer, everything g from the presentation, to the logo, the type.. he nailed it. Top work!
1. $135 Logo
2. $70 Logo
3. $40 Logo
4. $295 Logo
5. $450 Logo
Someone got robbed and it wasn't the buyer.
Sorry I'm dumb I dont get it explain please
@@ferrujadoo2548 same here ;-;
@@amentia I think he meant the $135 guy got robbed
The design is stolen
like de visual studio logo for $40
The $450 guy just stole the DAZ3D logo. Google it, you'll see.
The face shape was soo similiar 🤣, i think he trace it
You're right!
lol just curious how did you find it out?
@@deyanali2617 Its a 3d modeling / posing software which is kind of popular. It is also free. So I assume it is not hard to imagine someone watching a video about graphic design is familiar with it.
Sooo similar, even down to the use of layers of colour!!
Will: Mindscape
Manscape: Am I a joke to you?
To be honest, the $450 ones liked the least, I'm not an pro on logos but if I were to create a logo for an app like this I would stay away from the details as much as possible, it's really not relaxing to look at something complicated.
As a graphic design student, it's so helpful to see how other designers approach projects. Great video!
99design is good for that.
The $135 designer nailed it. The logo and presentation is just on point 🔥
The $135 guy was the best! I was absolutely impressed!
Man, I could watch these Fiverr videos forever, I usually don't even care what it's about, I just love seeing what different people do when given the parameters to do so.
