I had the opportunity to purchase a 2012 Toyota Tacoma that was classified as a non driver by the private owner. I didn't care that it had a 2.7 because of the deal I got. The owners thought it had a bad transmission. 64,000 miles. I was told it would just go into a limp mode type condition at any time without any warming. Pull over and shut it off. Restart it and it was OK ? I owned it about a week and a half with NO issues. Suddenly, it just went into a limp mode type condition. I'd say worse because pedal to the floor barely just got it off the road. Shut it off, then restarted. Away I went. They literally threw the parts cannon at the truck. Throttle body, position sensor, exhaust pump, coils, plugs, multiple engine sensors. No codes ever thrown, no check engine light. Our under hood diagnostics proved fruitless. After a second episode I decided to check under the dash. Tons of extra wiring, a relay bank then I saw the black box with Viper on it. I was given 2 factory remotes and keys but no alarm/remote start key fobs. I contacted the previous owner and asked what type of system was installed. They had no idea there was a system in it and the Toyota dealer they purchased it from used never mentioned any remote start/alarm so they apparently didn't know either. The previous owner owned the truck 5 years. I got to unplugging and cutting. I was lucky only 3 factory wires had been cut to splice the unit in. Since doing that I have not had the issue almost three years and 35,000 miles. I feel it had to be the Viper unit or the relay bank failed causing the condition.

This is great information to share. Over the years I have found countless aftermarket units installed In vehicles at least with this one it is 100% plug and play so if it acts up you could remove it easily.

    Definitely bifocals for that one.
